Wee Scot Best Badger Shave Brush 70mm shave brush by Simpson

I travel a fair bit and this brush has been with me on every trip since I’ve gotten it. It’s extremely small — like completely conceal it in your fist small — so if that’s not large enough for your taste, look for something else. Look at the product dimensions before making any purchase. I personally don’t have issue with the size. It makes it much easier to store and throw into a toiletry case, and the badger hair absorbs plenty of water and lathers great. It’ll take more strokes to cover as much ground as say, a 26mm brush, but considering how much the hairs splay on this, the difference isn’t much. If anything, I make way less of a mess with this and don’t end up with lather on my earlobes. There’s decent backbone but it does splay enough to cover a reasonably wide area. The hairs are a tad bit scratchier than a nice silvertip brush (I’m comparing to ones that run upwards of $100), but it’s leagues ahead of the lower quality badger hair brushes (~$30) in the same price range. This is much softer and holds much more water. There was a bit of a badger smell when it arrived, but that went away after a shave or two. Considering the tiny size alone, late $30 range is a lot to put down, BUT because of the nice quality and portability, I find this to be a reasonable purchase. Between this brush and a regular-sized best badger of the same price, I’m more likely to use this one on a daily basis. Bottom line: Get this if you like the idea of a quality, tiny travel brush.

This brush is amazing! I originally bought a cheap $12 badger brush/stand combo off amazon and thought it was terrible, I was considering not using a badger brush altogether after that. I came across this brush and saw good reviews and I liked how it was smaller, as I only shave my neck and cheek to keep a clean beard line. It works perfect for that, regular size brushs would have been way too big. With that said, if I ever started shaving my entire face, this would still be my go to badger brush. It whips up beautifully and is plenty big enough to do your whole face, not sure why you would need anything bigger to be honest. The more I use it, the better it performs. I lost a few hairs on the first 2-3 uses but after that it's been flawless. This would be the first brush I recommend to anyone who is a first timer to wet shaving, it's well worth the price! One thing to note, do not expect this to fit in the standard badger brush stands, it will be too small. That's okay for me as I don't want a stand sitting on my counter. I clean and dry my DE razor when done, put it in a $13 leather wrap/case I got on Amazin - rinse my badger brush, dry it by brushing it over a dry towel and then store out of sight. I was resistant to switching to DE shaving and a Badger Brush but I will NEVER go back! My neck no longer has ingrowns or any irritation.

I bought the wee scot as a travel brush since I travel a lot for work, and client visits require I be presentable. However, this brush has also become the only one I use whether at home or on the road. The bristles have just the right feel and have lathered anything I've thrown at it, including hotel facial bar soap when I left my usual puck at home one time. I normally do a 3-pass shave, and the wee scot can just barely hold enough product for 3 passes, although I usually do a minor recharge after the second pass. I face lather, but if you use a bowl or scuttle even that shouldn't be an issue. Despite being a little tight on how much product it holds, I find the smaller size perfect for applying lather exactly where I want it. Particularly the upper lip and around my side burns, and honestly, I don't understand why typical shaving brushes are so much larger now that I've used this one. Despite having to recharge the brush a little bit, a lot less product seems to go to waste. On the travel side, the small brush dries out extremely quick, and it fits quite nicely into a prescription bottle with airholes drilled. No worries about a wet bag or mildew build up. All in all well worth the money and a top notch brush.

I bought this as a travel brush due to its small size. As most other reviews state it is surprisingly small!!! However, it works like a charm, is easy to clean, and most importantly it dries quickly with a few firm flicks in the shower and a rub on a dry towel. I wasn't a big fan of face lathering with more normal sized brushes but find it works best with this one (I've been using Jermyn Street by Taylor of Old Bond if that makes any difference). I also really like the size for getting into my moustache area really well without clogging my nostrils and mouth with shaving cream. I also keep it in a tall, fat prescription medicine bottle with holes drilled in the cap so it has room to breathe and dry between uses. So far not a single hair loss and the animal smell was minimal when it arrived and gone after a couple shaves. It's well worth the money so far.

This led to a much less close shave but also saved me from cutting myself. Apparently in the pre-internet era, I had not properly learned how to shave. Being frustrated with the lack of close shave, I decided to give safety razor (“wet shaving”) another try. I am extremely glad that I did. I felt it was necessary to invest in quality but not the most expensive items to start. I began with the Merkur 34C razor, Israeli Personna (Personna Red) blades, the Parker silvertip brush and the Proraso shaving soap. The next step was to provide for a travel kit. This was accomplished with a cheap boar brush (not evaluated here) and Taylor of Old Bond Street Traditional shaving soap along with the Merkur razor. I next upgraded my travel kit to Simpson’s Wee Scot brush and Tabac shaving stick. My home supplies were upgraded to add the Simpson’s Classic 2 and Chubby 1 brushes, Mitchells Wool Fat shaving soap, Tabac shaving soap (after purchasing the stick), and the Lucky Tiger aftershave. Merkur 34C razor – I find this to be an excellent razor. It fits my hand well, gives great control with the short handle and provides for a clean comfortable close shave that is not too aggressive. The only criticism that I have is the finish is not as nice as certain other brands. When my luggage was temporarily lost, I purchased the same razor at the Art of Shaving for more than twice as much money, I did not feel it necessary to experiment with something else when this razor worked so well. Israeli Personna (Red) blades – These blades were purchased in a 100 pack at a very reasonable price. I chose them based on the overall reviews and have not been disappointed. I change the blade after four shaves and always get a consistently good shave. Parker silvertip shaving brush – This is a nice brush and a good value at its price point. It is soft on my skin and lathers Proraso very well. It does not have the backbone of the Simpson’s brushes and as such is now rarely used. I consider this a good starter brush if one is to limit their investment and give wet shaving a chance. With hindsight, I would have saved my money and gone right to the Simpson’s brushes if I were to do it over again. However, there is little to criticize for this brush at this price point. Simpson’s Wee Scot shaving brush – This brush is really small. It looks like a toy, but don’t be mistaken. It is surprisingly effective with the right soap and is excellent for travel. Be aware that even though this is a best badger brush, it is the scritchiest of all my brushes. Other reviewers have been able to get three passes from loading this brush once. I cannot, and therefore now load for each pass. Simpson’s Classic 2 shaving brush – This is a superior brush. This best badger brush is not nearly as scritchy as the Wee Scot. It has tremendous backbone and is superb for face lathering. The best badger hair is packed very densely which initially made it tough for the lather to release but with time the lather releases better. Be advised though that unless you live in a very dry climate, this is not an everyday brush as it takes more than 24 hours to dry and therefore must be rotated. Additionally, it will eat tremendous quantities of soap. Simpson’s Chubby 1 shaving brush (super badger) – This is my best brush. It is similar to the Classic 2 but even more dense with the super badger hair. The handle is slightly wider and bigger all around compared with the Classic 2. Both are good, but you need to like a short handle and be prepared to occasionally get lather on your fingers. Although this is a super badger brush, the degree of softness compared with the best badger Classic 2 is minimal. Compared with the Wee Scot, it is night and day. As with the Classic 2 this brush eats lather due to its density and also takes more than 24 hours to dry. Mitchell’s Wool Fat shaving soap – This is probably my favorite soap. It is however more difficult to lather. I have found that soaking the puck in tepid water while I shower has vastly improved its latherabilty. Tips for better lathering include not using very hot water, squeezing most of the water out of the brush and then adding only a few drops at a time when needed. The result is the best face feel after the shave of any of the soaps. It provides good cushioning and glide. The scent is minimal and not a factor at all for me. Tabac shaving soap – I first bought the stick for travel. Unfortunately the Amazon listing showed this as including the case. I only received the refill. Because the Wee Scot brush is so small, I tried lathering directly on the top of the refill stick and was completely satisfied with the results. So satisfied that I then bought the full size puck and bowl. I have since cut the stick into pieces and place it in the travel bowl with a screw down lid that came with the TOBS traditional soap and that is now my travel soap. This soap lather extremely well and is not so sensitive to the water level or have to be rehydrated as does the MWF. The scent is much stronger when lathering but eventually fades. I find the scent to be fine, I don’t have to have it, but don’t object to it at all. My wife likes this scent the best of all of my soaps. It provides good cushioning and glide and is extremely easy to lather. It does not have quite as good a feel after the shave as the MWF, but that is more a statement of how good the MWF is. I do however rotate daily between this and the MWF. They are both that good. Proraso green shaving soap – I started with this soap and found it good, but nowhere near as good as the MWF or Tabac. It lathers well and is probably the least expensive of any of the soaps that I have used. It provides decent cushioning and glide, but my face feels dryer after shaving than with the MWF and the Tabac. Taylor of Old Bond Street (“TOBS”) Traditional shaving soap – I was very dissatisfied with this soap. It did not lather with the cheap boar brush, and then I found it did not lather well with any of my other brushes. It did not provide good cushioning or glide and I got the least close shaves with this soap than any other. Given that I can lather MWF, I tend to think it is more the soap than I am the problem. I popped the puck out of the plastic travel case and filled the case with the Tabac stick for my travel needs. The soap was used a bathroom hand soap, because the price was just too high to throw away largely unused. Lucky Tiger aftershave and face balm – I like this aftershave which is largely witch hazel based with a host of other natural ingredients. There is no alcohol in this product so it does not have the burning bracing effect that some like. It has an orangey citrus scent that goes away after about 30 seconds. This aftershave is very thin and absorbs well. It moisturizes (especially with the MWF) and is a product that feels very clean to me. Other comments: After reading comments from others, I have learned that pill bottles that can be obtained for free from most pharmacies make excellent travel cases for brushes. I drill several holes in the cap for ventilation. I have also used a pill bottle to store the Tabac refill pieces not put in the travel bowl

When they say this brush is wee, they're not kidding. When I unboxed it, i couldn't believe just how small it really is it's about as big as my thumb, and my thumb is not that big. That being said, it is still a Simpson, and very well made. I have a Duke # 3 by Simpson and the wee is just as nice , just a lot smaller. I purchased this for travel but I wanted to try it at home first. I was skeptical at first , thinking how is this going to make a lather. I held it between my thumb ,index and middle finger and used a la toja shave stick and put the wee to my face and gave it a go. To my surprise , it started to make a lather! It went where no other brush had gone before. Lathered my lip without getting lather in my nose or mouth! I'm thinking, hey, this is pretty cool! It didn't shed any hair at all. I don't think I'd use this on a daily basis, but it will be a great fit in my tumi A2 toiletry kit. Can't wait to use it for my 10 day vacation. I'll update in a few months. UPDATE: September 30. I’ve had this wee for 2 months and was originally going to use it for travel with a shave stick. Well, I wanted to see haw it would perform with a cream, so I swirled it around in my AOS sandlewood jar and wow what a lather! The brush just exploded with cream. It’s one of the best brushes of ANY size. I’m putting in my regular rotation, it’s that good

This is a very nice small brush. But it is tiny small. Don't make the mistake I did and buy the case (tube) to carry it in when you travel. The case is way to big for it even though the site says it fits. It does but then a bicycle fits in a garage also. The case is twice the size of the brush. Odds are if you got a prescription in the last year or two for something that bottle fits better and it came with your pills. The brush is a bit rough and pretty firm but it does lather a cream OK. Probably works better with soaps. My AOS best badger is actually better suited to travel and home.

Small, fits in a pill bottle to store. I think this is perfect for accurate use on the face, under the nose and sideburns without getting shaving cream everywhere. I can get about 3 lathers worth. I use this in conjunction with the pacific company pre-shave oil, shaving cream and aftershave. This brush was the pinnacle of simpson shave brushes - Alexander Simpson mentioned that only the expert brush makers built this brush since you needed to have experience to work with something so small. It even has his signature on it. No other simpson has his name on it.

I upgraded to this from a Omega Bambino which is made with very stiff hairs, which is absolutely love. I wish more shave brushes were this small. I bought this as a travel brush but it's so good it has become my everyday shaving brush. Although it is indeed "wee", I find it perfect for my smallish hands. The badger bristles have he perfect balance of stiffness and sloppiness when loaded and can carry enough soap or cream for a three-pass shave. The brush has not shed a single hair in a month of almost daily use. I rigged a travel case from an all Steradent tablet tube cut down do size. It does the job perfectly. Well worth the price.

After 45 years, best shaving brush I’ve ever had. Created the perfect lather for my Feather razor.

This brush may be small, but it punches well above its weight. Very pleased, indeed.
