The Little Prince (Macmillan Collector's Library)

After much debate on what version of "The Little Prince" to get, I decided to go with this version for the price. I've had good and bad experiences with the arrival condition of new paperback books (creased pages and covers) but this pocket sized book came in good condition.It's a pleasant story and it's made me laugh more than once. Definitely worth the read.

Well, it’s compact, it has a very cute navy blue cover with silver stars. I got it for my grandson who is nine… He’s not crazy about it yet, but I’m going to make him continue reading it until he is!

This is the version you want! The translation by Katherine Woods is the BEST translation. I had to order this book used in order to get this translation as it's almost impossible to find these days. The version I received is the right one but the book cover has seen better days- it has some light tears and staining but to me it was worth the damage in order to get the best translation. This is the translation that holds both the beautiful eloquent poetry of the rose and the haunting tragedy of the un-muzzled sheep. This is a timeless story, one that can be read again and again. Each time you read this story a different part of you will connect to The Little Price. The story is complex and captivating all while being appropriate for children too. When I was a child I had heard the story about the boy Prince and his rose, and it was only later as an adult that I rediscovered this book. Reading it again as an adult I really appreciated the commentary on human behavior and the exploration of what it means to be "tame." I suppose it's hard to put into words the beautiful complexities of this book- it's especially difficult to explain this book when I know there's no way my review can even be half as good as this book! If you're a literature fan, a book lover or just someone who appreciates a good story then please buy this book. It just might change your life (like it did for me).

The BK Publishing yellow cover paperback edition is a good value for a classic children's book. I'm 49 and had never read The Little Prince until getting it for my teen daughter. On one hand I'm sorry I waited so long as it is a cute tale, but on the other it deep enough for an adult to enjoy as well. Read the book, I won't spoil for you.The only thing the black and white illustrations lack some quality control. Most are okay but a good many of them are too light to make out well. The printing is hit or miss, but the translation from the original French is one of the more widely praised ones, and the story is what counts.~ Kort

Wow! At 50 years old, I read it for the first time, and every page "blew my mind" with wisdom. And, it made me swell up with tears as well!"The Little Prince" insipired me to read "Wind, Sand and Stars", and it is amazing how many things are either conceptually, or even litterally, parallel in both books! This "de Saint-Exupery" is an incredible writer! And, he brings existential truths about life out of theory and into reality!Don't miss them! But, start with "The Little Prince" as it is a Miracle!ADDENDUMOn January 9, 2010, I edited my origianal review to remove the references critical of the Katherine Woods translation. I was parrotting what a friend of mine, and her friends and young son, told me. It was not appropriate for me to write as if I were so sure of myself. The Amazon.com review of this book does write of certain mis-translations in the Woods translation, which affect its intended French beautiful "flow." The Amazon.com review goes on to describe this Howard translation as an improvement as their review claims this Howard transalation is truer to the original French. Many customer reviews, however, write with great passion, and provide detailed translation examples, supporting the view that the Katherine Woods translation was actually much more consistent with the poetry and flow of the original French.I have never read the Katherine Woods translation although I remember my brother had it as a little kid. I bought him a copy, and I am about to buy myself one. That is how much I LOVE this book! I am thrilled that the "Miracle" lives on, and I "have" to read it again; and, I get to compare the two translations and the surrounding controversy. (I saw there is a discussion topic about the two translations, but I did not care to look at that.)

This turned out to be the most wonderful gift I have ever enjoyed giving. A first edition in excellent shape that brought back the joys and memories of youth to a dear friend. Even today the Fox and his wise words of how to use your heart to see fully still shine today. The book itself is in excellent shape, pages sharp and clear, colors bright and 77 years of magic and thoughtfulness still in place. As the presenter of the gift I was most pleased and the receiver genuinely was surprised and delighted to be so thought of as to receive this unique and still meaningful part of his youth. Consider using this vendor to provide thoughtful gifts to those you care most for. I certainly intend to visit their site again! Merry Christmas! And remember to use your heart to see what is essential but invisible to the eye.

This book the English version I have to say is just as precious as the 1st time I read it as a child! 5 stars automatically if you haven't read this story you need to As it is for all ages.

As you probably already know, this is a classic. But not because it's well written or a breakthrough in literature, it's a classic because each person reads it their own way. The book changes depending on the stage you are at life. Keep reading it and every now and then. Let the Little Prince surprise you with his adventures each time you glance its pages :)Enjoy!
