Would be 10 stars if possible
I ordered the Uniflasy Cast Iron Dutch Oven Pot with Lid, 6 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, hoping it would be an OK Dutch oven. You guys. This thing is almost indistinguishable from the super-expensive brand we all know (Le C), with just a couple exceptions: the design of the outside (top) of the lid, and the price (this one, at the time I reviewed it, is around $50, while Le C of the same size is around $310).This is a heavy enameled cast iron Dutch oven. It arrived packed well, with thick styrofoam inside it and surrounding it and the the lid separately. There was no chance this could be damaged, even though the box corner was damaged a little. (phew! I was nervous!)The enamel coating is even and smooth, with no "low spots" or chips in the enamel. The handles are large and easy to grab while wearing oven mits. The lid fits very snugly and has the bumps on the interior that allow moisture to drip back down into the pot. The outside bottom of the Dutch oven is absolutely flat—this is not such a big deal to me, as my stove is gas, but if you have a ceramic cooktop, this is important.I love cast iron and use several pieces, but enamel-coated cast iron is even more versatile: I would never use my plain cast iron for any tomato-based dish, but the acidity does not affect the enamel coating. I also occasionally bake bread in my cast iron Dutch ovens (heating it up before placing the dough in to bake), and the tight-fitting lids make it a small steam oven. I've found the enamel-coated cast iron makes a better crust, probably because the coating is light colored, so it doesn't overdo the crust before the inside bakes completely.I'm so pleased to add this 6-quart round Dutch oven to my collection of larger, smaller, and oval-shaped Dutch ovens.
