Perfect if you know what to expect
Fantastic durable quality pan. Probably the best iron pan on the market. Of course it needs a bit more care than a non stick but if you are willing to invest a little bit more care you will be rewarded with a pan for life. You will never buy a pan again. From new the secret is to be patient and build up the patina that will make it non stick, the more you use it the quicker; there are also lots of videos on youtube that show how to do it quick with flax oil. My pan is now nearly as non stick as a new ceramic or teflon coated.

Still a great product with a reasonable price (43GBP)
Bought this as a cast iron pan, occured to be carbon iron. Very hard to get information about the product, on the german speaking internet i found bits about it beeing cast iron.Still a great product with a reasonable price (43GBP), but not worth the MSRP of 90GBP.

Review Of The 19cm Rosti Pan With Wooden Base
This pan is designed especially for cooking the tasty Swiss dish, Rösti, which are made with grated potato formed into a flat cake and then fried. The meal is traditionally served straight from the pan which is carried to the table; hence the nice wooden base. It isn't just handy for rösti of course, and innovative serving ideas are increasingly popular as we become more adventurous in both the food we eat and they ways in which we serve it.For snacks and solo cooking this pan is a perfect size. Even for a family meal, a small secondary frying pan is ideal for frying off side portions or separate ingredients for a main dish. It takes up less hob space and is easier to wash and store.There appears to be a little confusion among the reviewers about the construction, but the pan is pressed from carbon steel and it has a cast iron handle welded to the side. The trivet is turned from beech wood. Heat dissipation is excellent, as one would expect from a solid steel pan., but you'll need to approach the handle with caution and possibly resort to the traditional cloth or handle sleeve if cooking at high heat.And now the reason for my giving it only two stars, in a review update only a few short months after purchase.Used with care, and always washed, dried and carefully stored, the surface of my pan is already degrading. It appears to be some sort of non-stick type of coating that is simply coming away, despite the fact I only use a silicone spatula and have never scoured the surface. The steel beneath is beginning to show the brown colouration of oxidation - RUST to you and me. I shall be taking this matter up with Kuhn Rikon, and will report back. I can say in the meantime though that given the enormous price of this item it is highly disappointing. If it had been properly coated it would still be fine. As things stand I cannot recommend this pan

Black Star Frying Pan
Well made cast iron pan with a smooth inside surface, brilliant for frying small items or making scrambled eggs. Easy to clean and comes with a wooden heat stand that is handy to have by the stove. Delighted with this and would recommend
