Excellent sound but a bit lacking in the audio midsection. The highs are fine and the lows are surprising, but even with equalization the middle is thin. I think a 2" speaker and a coil to the woofer and capacitor to the tweeter would improve the clarity a lot.

If you're searching for that warmer '80s speaker sound, stop right here. There's been other comments about quality, at this price point, It is what it is. But don't let that fool you. Fosi BT20 amp.

Generally you get what you pay for in terms of sound and finish, but these punch above their weight in both. All budget speaker design is a series of demanding tradeoffs, and Dayton Audio made phenomenal choices with these. Build quality is a notch above of what they needed to be. These could not be a better fit for a starter system, in an office, or to do something better than one of those all-in-one record players (please never, ever, ever use them). Clarity is solid, bass response is respectable for bookshelves this size and being sealed. The fact it's sealed means you have more placement options and theoretically could even use them on an actual bookshelf. I would say, "Especially if you use room correction," but if you're using room correction, you're probably also spending more on speakers. Unless you're a weirdo like me and have fun using budget gear with way-overdone electronics. Five stars for the price, four stars to knock folks who think these are high-end killers down a peg.

I bought these for my bedroom because I enjoy listening to music while relaxing and falling asleep. They are perfect for the job. Clear vocals, balanced sound, and just the right amount of bass without overwhelming a small room. I actually prefer them over tower speakers for bedroom use. For around $80 a pair, the sound quality is incredible. Highly recommended!

Surprisingly decent sound quality for the price!

Easy setup. Sounds great, clear sound. Nice look. Fits nicely on the entertainment table.

These are a cut above older Dayton bookshelf speakers, with a real electronic crossover rather than just a capacitor across the tweeter. Crystal clear highs and upper mids, with decent lows from a sealed enclosure design like this one. I have a sub in my system which extends the bottom down to 30Hz. Paired with that, these really shine, but some listeners may find them a bit shy in the lower registers by themselves. These sound good out of the box, but really begin to open up after about 10 hours of break in. Recommended.

First of all, I got the wrong item -- my package had two grey speakers, rather than one black and one grey. Second, both of the speakers were damaged. They had dents in the corners and were very dinged up. It didn't look like they were actually wood, more like someone stuck a wood decal around the edge. The box they came in had clearly been re-used like four times, there was an excessive amount of tape, multiple address labels, and the box itself was falling apart. Clearly someone else had ordered these, was unsatisfied with the quality, and returned them, and the company still kept the damaged speakers in circulation. I'm very disappointed, will be returning and will not be repurchasing from this brand.

I'm really impressed with Dayton B65 classic speakers. I've had my Klipsch R-15m for a few years now. To me the bass was a little boomy on the Klipsch and the tweeter seemed to over power the woofer. The Dayton speakers are less efficient with my 105 watt amp they can play at over 100 db. I live in an apartment so 90 db is pushing it. The seller was ayreborn audio & video there service was excellent. The Dayton B65 sound warm and neutral to me. I paid $149.00 I love the vintage look of the classic model.

I know what I am paying for. For the price, the speakers quality and sound is great. Highly recommend for study room, small office or studio apartments set up. Is a happy purchase. However, it should sound better after 30-40hours of playing when the speakers break-in.
