Flux helps with desoldering!
I've been soldering and desoldering electronics for decades. I've used a LOT of desoldering wick over the years, with varying success. I thought I would give this a try.... I got to thinking about this seemingly unrelated pair of items... because flux is used for soldering, but I've NEVER bought it for electronics soldering, because you don't need to buy it, the correct solder for electronics has the flux inside the solder. It used to be all rosin core solder, but with the new lead-free solder there are all kinds of other cores you can get... but the point is, ALL electronic solder has flux in it, and I have NEVER needed any more than that.So again... what is the flux included with desoldering braid for? Let's think for a moment... by the time you want to desolder something, any flux is long gone... but what are you doing when you try to use desoldering braid is to transfer the solder from the joint to the braid... in other words you are trying to solder the braid... but you have no more flux anymore.... ahhh, if you had some flux for the old solder, it would prevent oxidation and allow the solder to flow from the old joint into the braid much more easily! Of course, this is what the flux is for, because no one ever needed it to solder electronics, it's always been in the solder! So, I tested this theory and sure enough the flux does indeed help with desoldering braid. It still isn't always perfect, many times it can't pull all the solder out of through holes with leads still in them, but if you cut those off and pull them out with a pliers when the solder is melted it does work much better. I also have a solder sucker to help clear out the holes. It never occurred to me to use flux to desolder things, I have always struggled along... but I did notice that may times if I resoldered the part, it would desolder much easier... well, there's flux in the solder, so maybe I didn't need any new solder, I just needed the flux from it, since there is flux in the solder. Time will tell how well this works, but I'm planning on using flux every time I need to desolder something for a while and see if it always makes an improvement given different conditions. The desoldering wick itself works the same as any other I've tried, I like to fan out the end of it a little to help gather up the solder from a wider area. putting the flux on the joint to be desoldered AND on the braid helps the solder flow more readily up the braid.I'm very happy I came across this kit, thinking about why they would include flux with a kit that didn't have solder in it gave me some new ideas, and even after of muddling by, I now have a much better way to get it done.

Worked great to desolder some electronics.
I got this KELLYSHUN No Clean Soldering Flux Paste & Solder Wick for a few projects I wanted to tackle over the past few months. I wanted to desolder and clean up a board that needed a replacement chip on my A/C thermostat's board. It saved me about 95% of the retail price on the thermostat which was well work the risk in my opinion even if I'm somewhat of a novice. The solder wick worked great and removed all the old solder fairly easily. It is kind of amazing how it works. I was working with a small board so the small size of the solder wick was helpful. Overall, pleased with the results of this KELLYSHUN product.

Good kit...
Haven't had much of a chance to use this, but the components look absolutely fine for use on common electronics. Convenient and good value given the contents.

Thin solder wick for modern electronics
I've been tinkering with electronics for 50+ years, and appreciate tools that work. This fits that criteria! I needed to remove a soldered component--it is easier to remove if you first remove the excess solder. Position this solder-wick between your tinned soldering iron and the joint you want to clean--once the solder starts to melt, it wicks up into this braid. Repeat until the joint is clean enough for you to remove the component. Since most electronics have the flux washed away after assembly, you often need to add a little more flux to keep the solder flowing (and not becoming a little pile of un-meltable ash). Although it is called a no-clean flux, I still prefer to use some isopropyl alcohol to clean the board when I'm done (habit).

Enough for the occasional electronic rework
This supply of expendables is ideal for the small amount of electronic repair or rework I find myself taking on as a light hobbyist and home maintainer. I like the syringe with precision tips for having a controlled application of flux, and this may help me muster courage to delve into the modern world of surface mount devices. I have some limited experience with printed circuit repair and soldering, along with braided wick use.

Decent Solder Flux and Wick Combo, But Some Cleanup Required
I've been using this solder flux and wick combo, and it's been a decent addition to my toolkit. The flux comes in a generous syringe with a long expiration date, and the needle tips are easy to customize for precision work. I found it especially helpful for soldering surface-mount components. The wick is your standard copper braid and gets the job done as expected. It's always good to have plenty on hand for desoldering mishaps. My only gripe is that the flux leaves a waxy residue even though it's labeled as "No Clean." I ended up cleaning my boards with isopropyl alcohol anyway, but it's not a dealbreaker.Overall, this combo is a solid value if you're looking for a reliable flux and wick option. Just be prepared for a little extra cleanup.---Product: L-2015 Solder Wick & KL-533 Solder Flux,1500MM Desoldering Wick Braid Remover (2PACK),10 ML No Clean Soldering Flux Paste (1 PACK)ASIN: B0D4YDH3WV
