Smoother and stronger in flavor than any other Coffee I've had
PROS:- Made a smooth cup of coffee- Strong and flavorful- No bitterness- Pleasant aromaCONS:- I didn’t pick up on the fruity undertones- The packaging of the item was a bit of a nuisance and no way to reseal the leftover coffee.- The outer Burlap and lack of being able to reseal the item is the only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5I love coffee. I love all kinds, all types, whether dark roast, medium roast, made in a coffee maker or a French Press, it is all really good. I am especially fond of a good Espresso. What I really liked about Plantation Blue coffee is it brought a really smooth cup of coffee. I thought that I had experienced smooth cups of coffee in my life, clearly I hadn’t; I tried this and I now understand.I decided to try this Plantation Blue Jamaican coffee by making a cup in a French Press, which is one of the recommended brew styles they tell you to try. When you open the bag you are greeted with a wonderful smell; it is rich and aromatic, and will fill your home with the tantalizing scent of coffee.Let’s talk about the packaging for a moment. I was not a fan of the outer Burlap bagging on this item. It was not easy to open, it’s not reusable, even with scissors I struggled getting it to open, and I was just releasing dozen of burlap threads into the air. When you finally cut through it, there is a standard vacuum sealed bag inside. I assume they were going for a fancy presentation? But for me it was a bit annoying; I would prefer just the vacuumed sealed bag. It would also be nice if there was a way to close it up again so it stays fresh and I don’t have to use my own Tupperware. My final thoughts are that this coffee brought with it a delicious drink that I enjoyed, a jolt of energy, and really good flavors that linger after drinking; with a smoothness that needs to be experienced to truly appreciate. This coffee tastes good; so I think it’s worth the little bit more in price you will pay for this item.Especially if like me you are a lover of coffee.

I'll buy it for special occasions!
I have been drinking coffee for a long time. When I moved to my first apartment after college I invested in a VERY expensive German-made coffee grinder. It's still running great and since I always grind coffee beans for my morning coffee, it's worked hard. Over the years I have become quite picky about my morning joe: FRENCH ROAST is all that is just right. The way I make the coffee...the amount of beans I grind...makes it a harsh wakeup brew to the reality of another day. The taste I will admit, is probably not for everyone! So now I had the opportunity to try and review this wonderfulPlantation Blue 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Single-Origin Gourmet Coffee. I couldn't waitFirst off, the sample bag came in an outer burlap bag which made for a wonderful presentation. I opened the inner back and as per the instructions that came with this sample (8 oz!), I put the beans into an air tight storage container for later placement in the refrigerator.I used one scoop of coffee beans for my first brew. That works out to two table spoons of coffee beans which is what I normally use for my preferred coffee.I have a pretty typical coffee maker as the photos show and as usual I put the beans into the filter in the basket and closed the lid, pushing the button to start the brewing process. Nothing much exciting to say here and as usual, the coffee was ready in about ten minutes. My initial reaction was the coffee has an interesting sweetness and lightness to it. Good flavor just very, very gentle. Not at all satisfying for me because there was none of the "in your face" punch of my usual French roast. Nice, but not for morning. Then a day later I ground more beans for another pot. This time I used two scoops of beans, four tablespoons, and the coffee woke up! Still sweet and pleasant but with four tablespoons of beans I found the coffee's flavor to be much stronger while still retaining its sweet, genteelness that was present in my first sip.So my review: Normally I would take a star away because of what I consider Plantation Blue 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Single-Origin Gourmet Coffee's very high price. But I won't because this is to me more a special time coffee. It's the perfect taste and gentleness for an after dinner coffee where perhaps I have share a fine meal with close friends. The beans will remain in the freezer and I'll brew coffee with them when my relatives again come to dinner or when I have that special dinner with friends and the perfect after dinner coffee is needed. ForPlantation Blue 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Single-Origin Gourmet Coffee with it's almost sweet gentle yet fine flavor and aromas is just that: a special coffee for special occasions. At least in my house.See photos: The two beans in one photo shows the Plantation Blue 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain bean (on the right) compared with my normal French roast bean on the left; Note my measuring cup and the beans ready to grind in my grinder. and then there is the fresh brew ready to taste early in the morning.

Fresh and delicious
I'm always suspicious of coffee that comes already ground but this coffee was very fresh. The bag (sealed inside a burlap bag that was not easy open) was vacuum sealed tight when I got it. No outgassing through the little valve and no gap in the package. That usually means the beans are very fresh. I am happy to say that this coffee tasted very fresh.I try a lot of different coffees and I tend to prefer a light to medium roast only because dark roasts are usually burned and have no complexity of flavor. This dark roast stands out for being dark but still extremely smooth to drink. We brewed it on different days with more and less coffee in the basket and got two very different tasting pots of coffee. With less coffee grounds the coffee seemed to have a fresher and more complex flavor. Although brewing with more grounds gave a mellow cup that was great with cream and sugar. This coffee is not cheap, but it was a nice treat and it really is very good. If you've only had grocery store coffee or ridiculously strong coffee shop coffee, give this a try and be surprised at how good quality coffee can taste.

It's ok
I wanted to like these beans more. But they seem pretty average considering the $50 price tag. I could go to Costco and get any dark roast and it would compare. The packaging was nice though and would make an ok gift.

Oily beans
This is a decent dark roast coffee, but be aware that the beans are pretty oily. If you use an automatic or super-automatic coffee/espresso machine, you may have difficulty with these beans or need to clean your machine to remove the excess oils. If you use a drip coffee machine, this will not be a concern. From a flavor perspective, I think this is a good dark roast. Nothing life changing, but definitely better than most of what I can find at the grocery store.
