Great Kit... Please read if you have front suspension forks...
I was restoring a 2009 Specialized Hotrock 24 and the brake hardware was in bad shape. When this kit arrived, I was very pleased (see photo of old and new brake arms, side by side). While the installation was easy, I did run into a situation with the suspension fork, that you may (or may not run into). If you are not familiar with Vbrakes, the arms have mounting bolts that screw into studs that stick out from the fork and rear frame. Typically, the studs are either screwed or welded into the fork and frame. When I removed the brake arms from this Specialized Hotrock, Suntour fork, the mounting studs came off with the brake arms as an assembly. At first, I thought I purchased the wrong brake arm kit. But, after a closer look I figured out what the situation was.If you look at the "cutaway" photo ( I cut a small section out of the brake arm to show the assembly), you will see that the mounting screw goes through a brass ferrule into the mounting stud. When you remove the brake arm, the mounting screw and stud spin freely in the brass ferrule and the stud comes out of the front fork. Without the stud, you can't mount the new brake arms... and the way it's assembled, it looks like it doesn't come apart. If your brake arms come off with the mounting stud, like these did, you won't need a hacksaw or any special tools. What you will need to do is lightly tap the mounting screw and drive the brass ferrule out of the back of the brake arm.At that point, you will find a cover that will move forward over the brass ferrule giving you access to the flat spots on the mounting stud. These flat spots will accommodate a wrench (in my case a 9mm). Please note that in the photo's of the mounting bolt, ferrule and stud, the cover is not present. Then, using a wrench on the stud and an allen in the mounting bolt, you will be able to unscrew the mounting bolt from the stud. From there you screw the stud back into the suspension fork, lube the stud and mount your new brake arm with the new mounting bolts that are supplied in the kit.I think this is a great kit for the price and it made the Specialized Hotrock brakes look and work like new.As to negative reviews about the pads, I can't say. This was a kids bicycle that I restored and sold. So, I don't know how long term performance is.One final thing. If you have Tektro levers, you may want to take a little time to disassemble, clean and grease the pivot point (just make sure you pay attention to the spring orientation). Another option is to give them a good shot of WD 40, work them to clean them, wipe them down and apply your favorite bike lube to the pivot point. Disassembling the levers made such a difference on this bike, that I did it to my own.

Perfect fit for my Specialized hybrid gravel bike.
The springs in my old linear pull brakes were difficult to adjust and already had many good years on them so I needed a good replacement. I purchased these and they arrived on time and went in without any issue. They will last for many years to come. I’m an avid rider and perform all of my own bike repairs (and have done so for over 30 years). I put on about 100 miles a week on my bike and these will do the job well. I can’t comment on the brake pads (which came with the set), as I used longer pads which I already had on my bike prior to the replacement. In summary, they fit, they adjust well, they work.

Good replacement to aging brakes that never worked right in the first place
A couple of months ago I decided to refurbish a bicycle I bought back in 2008 from Costco. It was a Schwinn with Shimano parts all around. I rode it for a while as it was my main mode of transportation before getting a car and then it sat outside a lot, which did not do good to the body or the parts. I sanded everything down and repainted the main frame but needed to replace pretty much everything else.My old front brakes never worked right from day one. The right side would always get stuck and made my front brakes almost unusable. I got this to replace them and keep the whole "red bike" but "black parts" theme going on and it worked pretty well. Installation was very simple. and adjustment works the same way as any other bike brakes. I did have an issue with one of the arms' adjustment bolt being so tight I couldn't unscrew it (the bolt stripped) and had to get a replacement from Amazon, but after that it worked great on both the front and the rear brakes.

Reasonable for a low cost V brake set
Put these on a kid's bike to replace some other generic V brakes from years ago. Keep in mind this is a less than $20 brake mechanism that comes with pads so expectations should be reasonable (I usually spend close to this on brake pads alone). For some reason people expect a high end Shimano component when buying a low cost generic component - baffling? The spring box is plastic but I don't see that being a big problem. Kit came with lots more hardware than I expected, new mounting bolts with lock-tite already applied, new cable guides and new rubber covers for the exposed cable. Installed fine, I adjusted the tensioners and was able to balance the levers to keep a nice equal gap when released. The pin which sets the back pressure is metal (another review said it was plastic, that would have been a non-starter but it was metal on mine). I'm not expecting miracles from a low cost kit like this but it seems fine. My background is commuting to work and I've always done all the work on my family's bikes. Would I buy this for my commute, no, but for one of the kid bikes that is used once a weekend when it's nice - yes.

Perfect replacement brakes for budget beach house bike(s)
I bought these to replace a rear brake on a bike that had been sitting in a beach house we purchased. This worked perfectly and was relatively easy to install and adjust. The brake pads seems good too without any squeal which would have driven my wife crazy. Great parts for the money.

Not as pictured
The picture shows the adjustment screw going into a silver metal piece. Instead the adjustment screw goes into a black plastic piece that holds a metal nut. Seem to work ok, but I was trying to get that adjustment piece in all metal as that holds in place best.

Good Upgrade for old school mountain bike.
Bought these Brakes for a old 27" Motiv Mountain bike I have ( mountain bike in name only ) cause the originals just barely did the job. Nice upgrade much better braking then what I had before. Probably not as good as disk brakes but these will stop on a dime. Can't do any trick's with them like a Breaky or any thing like that but they will stop the bike very well. I have another old mountain bike with these same type of brakes that are more heavy duty then these and they are capable to do tricks with and stop the bike extremely well. good deal for the price for sure.
