Beauty
Only the one who has the ability to understand and feel the beauty of words can feel this book. It's an amazing book which can take you to some other universe. Go for it

Very Unique
Probably the most poetic of all the Rumi translations out there. However, I warn you to please sit with a dictionary as some words are very hard to understand

One of the best poetry books I've ever read.
I knew Rumi is a very acclaimed book that's why I bought it but it's even better than I had imagined....the poems are short but really deep, you could spend days interpreting them and the meaning behind them is beautiful as well...go for it if you love some good poetry!

Philosophy
The book is pure deep philosophy

Good enough but basic
Basic poems of Rumi, would have been nice if it included lines from Masnavi. Translation is good enough but could be better if it included the original Persian lines alongside. This book is a good intro to western readings who have jumped on the trend of reading Rumi and need some quotes for their insta posts. However, the deeper spiritual meaning is lost in some of these in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience.

Experience the spiritual magic
Rumi weaved magic with his words. His verses contain so many themes and each of them have a charm of its own. Love, God, sadness, existence and identity are some of the themes which reoccur in his work. The kind of spirituality and positivity which echoes from his words is simply awe inspiring. I cannot praise the genius of Rumi enough and I must also say that the efforts of the translator Farrukh Dhondy are commendable.šš¹Why you should read this bookš¹-Firstly, the language is mesmerising. When I read this book, the experience felt equal to meditation.-The verses are filled with wisdom and contain the emotions which has the power to touch one's heart.-Rumi's works have a universal appeal. No matter where you live or what you do, you'll be able to relate with them.

Rumi - a poet for the ages
Farrukh Dhondy ends his story of the renowned Rumi in his last two paragraphs: āI confess that I am neither a Sufi nor a poet and while working at these transliterations of Rumi, have used the texts of Nicholson and Arberry, the assistance and translating skills of friends who read Persian, and occasionally, the Urdu translations of Rumi by several scholars and commentators. āThe liberty I have taken in trying to combine the intent of the original with an attempt at lyrical felicity, are entirely mine and none other should beg forgiveness for them.ā As you might guess, I was surprised to read the above, having thought that the subtitle āA New Translationā implied an author fluent in the language of Rumi. Then I had to laugh at this assumption I had made. Would I have read this book had I known the author didnāt read Persian? I think I would still have read it. Iām glad I did. For Rumiās words are often spiritually stimulating and often have humor or satire as well as beauty. I rate this book at four stars, for I wanted more than merely 153 poems by Rumi.

Completely fails to deliver on promise to de-westernize Rumi
The author laments that Rumi translations donāt understand the religious context in which he wrote and promises to correct this. He also promises to retain the lyricism and poetic form. And he completely fails to deliver any of that. The poems vary from, at best. being pretty much exactly equal to other translations Iāve read to, at worst, doggerel without the promised contextualization. I am very disappointed in this book and am unlikely to buy anything by this author again.
