Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8G Prime Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera - Black

I bought this lens almost an year ago and have been using it with Nikon D7000 and Nikon D3300 . I personally own a few other lens from Nikon ,including telephoto zoom ,kit and prime . If you are really into photography then going for a prime lens would be a wise decision . Also a 50mm prime lens is always recommended because it will give you a better bokeh effect (in some cases) .You just have to stand a few feet away from the object to take a perfect shot. #IMAGE QUALITY: This lens is hands down amazing. Paired with my D3200, it really does offer stunning photos. The autofocus is fast and accurate, however sometimes focus seems to stray from my subject. The first thing you will notice about this lens over the 1.8D is that color are so much more vivid. Because I had to manually focus with the 1.8D, photos weren't always tack sharp. This lens is very sharp. The best part about it is that its way sharper than the 1.8D at wider apertures. I mainly shoot from f2.2 - f2.8 and sharpness kills the 1.8D. #BETTER BOKEH EFFECT: Bokeh is the background blur you see in DSLR shots. Nowadays you can create a good bokeh effect using software itself. I purchased this 50 mm prime lens after a thorough research. This is one of the BEST lens that you can lay your hands on (for the budget conscious). Once you start using this, you won't ever want to get back to using the 18-55 mm standard lens that comes with the kit. I have used the standard 18-55 mm lens only on a couple of occasions on my Nikon D5100 and was not too happy with the results, since I was accustomed to great picture quality of this 50 mm lens. The bokeh and background blur effects are simply amazing and smooth. And so is the picture clarity. You will get beautiful photos even in low light conditions. The lens comes with both Auto/Manual focus, which is very useful. However when you want to take group photos (of more than 3-4 people) in closed areas, you will have to struggle a bit, as you wont have enough room to back off to take in all the group. But this is a 50mm lens and this is the expected behavior. If you like photography and mostly take pics of family functions etc., this is probably the best lens that you can lay your hands on. You can later buy a 35 mm lens too, to be able to take good photos in tight/closed areas. As for the price, I purchased this lens for Rs. 8460/- exactly 3 months ago and I think it's a great deal! So i got these after a recommendation from a professional photographer friend of mine. The reason I got the Nifty 50 (nick name) is for that background blur to portraits. I've had this for a week now and after like 500 clicks am beginning to get hands on with it. I like the results and quiet honestly it has that professional feel and there's a nice focus on the subject going on, I like the background blur that's playing for most of the pics I clicked with these. I'm more of an amateur and its already making me feel like a pro, there's very little editing needed for me after that. I would definitely recommend this if your looking to get that depth to your portraits and if you want to highlight your subjects, this ones a good deal.

Excellent. Sharp

This is an amazing lens. I use it with my newly bought Nikon D3300 and it works as it specifies. Although, for group shot one has to go far, and difficult inside a room. here are my observations. Pros 1. Sharpness. The lens is very sharp. 2. Auto focus. This helps a lot when there is less light and you have to focus particularly on a subject. Using the 3D focus of the camera, the lens fixes the focus on the subject. 3. Bokeh. The bokeh effoect is very good with this lens. use it to photograph someone with background having a lot of light. more the distance between foreground and BG, more beautiful the bokeh. 4. Portraits. This lens is for portraits and it works really well. you can really capture expressons. COns 1. Maybe the crop factor. I am using it with a DX camera (nikon D3300) and hence this lens isnt giving me entire 50 mm. To a normal person this lens feels as if it is zooming the subject. But it is okay, my choice. so, the photos will not be wide. to capture a group of 7-9 people standing side to side, the camera has to stand 10 feet away. The delivery of Amazon was amazing and on time. Packaging was good, service was good, tracking was effective and I am very satisfied. I initially ordered using FLipkart and the product was defective and color faded a little, the auto focus was jammed. Amazon provided me with a product which is manufactured in October and in a new condition. Thanks for the good service.

Let's not beat around the bush - If you are a budding photographer or a serious hobbyist, there are not many things you can do better than to buy this lens. With kit lens, a telephoto and a prime lens, you got all the basic tools to learn and enjoy photography at the same time. So the question for most will not be yes or no, but when and what. 35mm or 50mm? There are situations where it is easier to get away from the subject than to come closer. You will struggle with this lens if you regularly shoot photographs within confined spaces but in open areas extra 15mm is a bliss. 50mm is better built and supports full frame cameras. I also learned the bokeh is better on this one. How much shallow depth of field? With 1.8 Aperture you get pretty shallow with DoF. Attached pics will better illustrate this. Pros: 1. 1.8 Aperture is a revelation for first timers. This opens host of new possibilities. 2. Built quality is excellent. 3. In built focus motor for starter DSLRs. 4. Fast Autofocus. 5. Ability to experiment with fast shutter speeds in daytime without losing light at 1.8G. Try catching raindrops, puff of dust, spilling water and what not! 6. Fixed optics give sharp images. 7. Great low light performance. Gives you freedom from high ISO by combining slow shutter speeds and large apertures. 8. Bokeh makes a debut in sub 10k lens! 9. Your introduction to Aperture priority mode which would be least used with your kit lens so far. Cons: 50mm is not suitable for shooting in confined spaces or cramped indoors. Group pics will be a big no no. No IS. Although large aperture allows you high shutter speeds. Above 1/60 you won't notice any shakes. Highly recommended.

This lens was bought to complement the Nikon 18-200 VR II that I use with a D5200, which is a superlative lens in itself. With this DX format body, this 50mm lens has an effective focal length of about 70-75mm, making it a great lens for portraits and low-light general photography, to take full advantage of its large aperture for both bokeh and relatively lower ISO settings. It's an excellent lens offering crisp high-contrast images with very little distortion. The other main use I had in mind was to use the fairly low minimum focussing distance and large aperture for macro nature photos. I find a dedicated macro lens impractical while shooting in natural light, and previous experiments with an old 18-55 kit lens that came with my first DSLR (a D3000) has shown me that it doesn't really take a dedicated macro lens for good photos as long as you don't plan extreme macros. I haven't yet had the time to use this lens for macros, but from the general results, I don't think I will be disappointed. My final opinion: Excellent results, and a greatly useful and reasonably priced lens to always be part of your kit.

This is a great basic 50 MM lens. What I like about it : 1) Budget Friendly 2) Really Sharp Images 3) Small and light What I dont like : 1) Build quality is very plasticy 2) No zoom (Ofcourse) 3) Need to learn focusing skills initially to take good pictures

Ce produit répond totalement à mes attentes : pouvoir faire de beaux portraits tout en gardant un peu de polyvalence (photo de rue, voire paysage, etc.). Quatre raisons m’ont poussé vers cet achat. Premièrement, l’ouverture du diaphragme maximale est grande (f1.8) et permet d’obtenir une très faible profondeur de champ. C’est ce qui permet aussi d’obtenir ce que je voulais : un beau bokeh. Il est très facile alors de faire un beau portrait avec un joli flou (i.e., le bokeh) en arrière-plan pour le mettre en valeur. Deuxièmement, comme l’ouverture du diaphragme maximale est grande (f1.8), il y a plus de lumière qui rentre. Cela permet plus longtemps de s’affranchir dans les endroits sombres d’une montée en Iso parfois dangereuse ou de l’utilisation non souhaitée du flash. Troisièmement, cet objectif est fait pour les boîtiers « plein format » mais demeure compatible avec les boîtiers APS-C (ce qui est mon cas). Il y a là un avantage indéniable : si dans quelques années j’ai la chance d’acquérir un boîtier plein format, je n’aurais pas besoin de racheter cet objectif. Au regard des prix des objectifs, c’est un aspect à prendre en considération lors de leurs achats. Nota : Si je ne m’abuse pas, l’utilisation en APS-C de cet objectif plein format implique que l’on multiplie par 1.5 la focale (qui devient donc du 75mm) et les ouvertures. Ce n’est pas un problème. Certains suggèrent de faire du portrait entre 80 et 130 mm. Quant aux ouvertures, même si on peut trouver mieux, elles me sont largement suffisantes. Il m’arrive encore de vouloir faire un portrait et, en taquinant de trop grandes ouvertures, d’obtenir un œil net et l’autre flou. Dans certains cas, c'est artistique, mais dans d’autres c’est surtout raté. Enfin, la quatrième raison qui me fit faire cet achat est la suivante : ce 50 mm fait partie des objectifs de qualité à prix très abordable. Le prix n’est pas l’aspect le plus négligeable. Au-delà de ces quatre raisons, j’ai découvert à l’usage une cerise sur le gâteau : la mise au point automatique est vraiment silencieuse et discrète. C’est un régal. Si j’avais des raisons pour acheter cet objectif, il convient aussi d’évoquer une réticence. Habitué des zooms, j’avais peur d’être limité par une focale fixe. Étrangement, il n’en est rien. On ne va évidemment pas pouvoir faire des photographies animalières à 50mm, mais pour un usage plus courant ou conforme à ce que je voulais réaliser, il est aisé de faire un ou deux pas en avant ou en arrière pour cadrer son sujet et composer sa photo. C’est si aisé que l’on oublie rapidement que la focale demeure fixe. C’est pourquoi, si vous souhaitez faire du portrait, des photos de rue, des prises de vues en condition de lumière difficile, à la fois sans vous ruiner et sans concéder sur la qualité du rendu, cet objectif semble être un incontournable.
