Review: A Parting Shot From The Origin - With the twelfth and final volume of The Origin we get to see how The One Year War comes to an end, and in a nice touch more of its origins and aftermath. All the moments you'd expect from First Gundam are here from Char and Amuro's dual to Char's last goodbye to Kycilia, it even makes good use of one of the iconic songs from Encounters in Space! As always the best part of The Origin is the material that's new to the manga, which I won't spoil. The most interesting about this volume is that the actual story proper of The Origin ends a little more than halfway through the volume, the rest of it is a series of interviews and retrospectives on the work itself and three omake chapters that take place before and after The One Year War and in the case of the last two tie The Origin nicely into Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam while also ending on a bittersweet ending for most of the characters (for one it ends in an extremely painful realization that explains some of his actions during Zeta). Highly recommended reading if you're a fan of the Real Robot genre of anime, a Sci-Fi fan in general, or like stories that can be funny, heartwarming, and painfully sad all at once along the lines of say, A Song of Ice and Fire. Review: Great epic coming to an end - Gundam (Origin) was worth the price and time, though each book was heavy. It was like witnessing the genesis of the Japanese manga empire. The ending being that both sides agreed to a ceasefire or armistice was good. Both sides fought well and the power balance was 40:50. It is surprising to have to note that neither Amuro nor Char grew up much through the grand journey. Having said that, I still like Char better.

Great epic coming to an end

The final book!
The only thing to be sad about is that this is the last book! Keep in mind, the story ends around 2/3s into the book, the rest contains some bonus side chapters which help add some flavour to the before and after lore. So, it was reaching the conclusion around half way and I am thinking, "But there are still pages left?"
