Good for winter and summer
The first time I bought one of these it was just before an exercise in Hawaii while in the Marine Corps. You think Hawaii and you think beaches and sand and warm weather. Typical of the USMC though we were located high up on the big island where it was cold, damp, and everything around was lava rock. If you're in any convoy and you're not the lead vehicle you're sucking the finest lava rock dust you'd imagine. My green recon wrap teamed with my goggles saved me and I loved it. It was cool but the sun was very strong so having this around my neck kept it from getting burned as well. It's think enough even when it gets warm your neck can still breathe yet it blocks the wind very well.Later that year I got deployed to Kuwait in August to conduct convoy training before rolling through Iraq. Even in 130F I wore this to block out all the sand and it was extremely comfortable. We found if you just completely cover your head with it the flies won't bother you so much but you can still breathe just fine. Because there is no stitching at all there are no hotspots and even when damp it felt nice and cool. It also dries very quickly. Even through the Iraqi winter too I continued to wear it since it kept my neck warm and a cold neck really bothers me.Another year goes by and another deployment to Iraq and I brought the same recon wrap and wore it almost all the time or at least had it with me. You need it in case a sand storm blows in and you want to breathe.Seven years later I still have the same recon wrap and I don't wear it as often because it seems to have developed a permanent stink which no washing even with special detergents can get rid of. Now I just use it while outside during the cold or walking the dog but I still want my neck warm. I bought a black one from Amazon several years ago though and I wear that all winter. The strength of this item is you can use it however you want to. For the cold I just loop it on itself once so it's twice as thick. I don't need it to be so long so this works perfectly to keep the ears and face warm even when bicycling in 30F weather.I'm here to buy a tan one to have for the new season of backpacking and I can't imagine spending any amount of time outdoors without it.I even used to put it on my dog's head to keep her ears and neck warm.

Works like a charm
these are very versitile and everyone should have one handy when traveling or at home. I had one in my pack while at knotts berry farm and there was a huge wildfire 30 miles away that had ash falling alover and making it hard to breath. I used this on my active duty tours and it worked to cover my face in the desert sand storms and it worked to filter the ash as well. The kids had bandana's that worked for them, but I wanted everyone in the family to have thse so I ordered a bunch.

I almost consider this over priced but I knew exactly what I was getting
I actually already had one of these wraps but I kept losing it so I figured I would grab another one.For just a (nice) chunk of fabric i feel like the twenty bucks I spent is rather absurd, but I also knew it was exactly what I wanted. Very breathable, tight without being restricting, and just plain useful. Nice for keeping out dust, or keeping your face a little bit warmer. Actually I like it because it gives a buffer to keep really cold air from going straight up my nose in winter conditions.Pretty much it has tons of uses and should last you quite a while. So is 18 dollars a lot? Yeah. Too much? Maybe not.Why not 5 stars? Price I guess. I think 5 stars implies near perfection which is very few things. I sometimes wish the ends were a little tighter than the body for certain styles of wear but meh.If this is a product you want, get it. How about that?

Three Stars
I've found this one to be particularly tight and unstretchy. It's adequate, but just barely.

Great product.
I purchased this piece of headwear to go along with my Multicam outfit for airsoft. It worked great when I did use it but I prefer to use my Mich 2000 now. All the different ways of configuring the recon-wrap aren't exactly comfortable. I prefer the bandanna and neck gaiter. I still have no idea how to transform it into a helmet cover though...And the ninja looking configuration is terrible, if you're using glasses or goggles (like mandated airsoft) don't expect to see too much, you'll quickly fog up. And while this recon wrap is considerably more expensive than it's chinese made counterparts, in my opinion, it's worth it. Support your country!

Best "Neck Gaiter" you can buy
I bought an OD Green version of this from a PX shop in Kuwait and the thing was a lifesaver while I was deployed to Iraq. Keeps you warn in cold weather and it kept the sand out of my mouth and nose during sandstorm season. When I left the army I gave it to my kid to play with and he lost it somewhere in the house. When the current pandemic started I really lamented losing the green one and ordered a couple of replacements from other brands. While they worked so-so none were as good as Spec-Ops. SO I ordered a black one and use it all the time.

Great quality, very useful, but perhaps should be a bit cheaper for what it is
This appears to be great quality, and this type of gear is very useful for a wide variety of applications . . . however, this should probably be closer to the $10 mark as opposed to $20. It's just a tubular piece of polyester. I like it though, and will probably buy another.
