Small and mighty portable DX radio
Amazingly sensitive radio and easy to use.First of all, it comes in what looks like a toolbox with soft padding inside. Radio, pouch and detailed instruction manual (although not needed to use straight away).Sound is very good for such a small speaker in the radio.I pulled in stations on FM up to about 190 miles away over hilly territory - a feat which only the Tecsun PL-880 also did but the Qodosen got in stronger! Very good DSP sensitivity, too.One evening I tried LW and picked up Radio Algeria on 252kHz .. indoors. It was quiet but considering I was indoors and using its internal antenna .. I was really impressed. All in all, I waited a long time to try to find a sensitive, small radio with RDS and AM .. and am not disappointed.Just one small point to note - you do need 18650 batteries for this radio.

Really nice radio
The radio is really only for someone who knows about radios. Don’t get me wrong the radio is really nice, super sensitive fm reception. Great sound quality, it’s amazing for its size. But it has loads of interesting and useful settings, I don’t think you will get the best out of this radio unless you go into settings it up how you want to use it.Not good battery life warning, it says the battery is full then without any ramp down in displayed power, it displays almost empty!!!Don’t attempt to just switch on and use,Read manual first, or not much will happen.I think that the default settings could do with tweaking, depending on where it’s being sold.Personally I am really enjoying using it.

Big radio in a tiny body!
This Radio was highly recommended to me by "Fred in the shed" on Youtube!First impression: it is very well made, feels & looks a bit like the Sony mini radios of the 80's and 90's, (Icfw 55/100) compact, massive, solid and nothing looks or feels cheap! Quite the opposite in fact! All in all a really nice set. FM is a treat, I can suddenly hear stations I never heard before! MW & LW is not of much importance here. But SW is again excellent, right up there with my big SW-receivers which are of a high quality - incredible! You will need to work with the manual, don't underestimate this radio! Not so great: no battery, but you can get these easily. One detail I am not all to happy with: I had to pay €22.- in customs charges. I ordered this radio on the amazon uk website thinking, I would get this radio through the UK ( like most of the things for Ireland) and thanks to the customs agreement UK/Europe ( For goods up to €150 no customs charges occur) would not be confronted with customs charges. I still think the radio is well worth it , no question. But the fact that customs charges will apply need to be highlighted on the Website. Otherwise all in all: an exceptional product and one hell of a Christmas present! Thanks Fred!

Excellent radio, highly recommended
I've only had this a few days and I'm comparing it directly to the Tecsun PL-330 which I've had for a few years now.The Qodosen lack of SSB aside which IMHO is awkward on this Tecsun due to tiny recessed buttons for 'step' and more is for me at least far superior on LW, MW and even SW. Pretty much the same where I live on FM although perhaps on headphones FM sounds slightly better on the Tecsun. As for the speaker Qodosen is far superior as is the action of the buttons on the radio. Operating ease wise is a matter of preference although I'm getting to prefer the Qodosen.Build quality is no contest with the thin and creaky plastic of the Tecsun together with its lack of a kickstand being vastly inferior. If you really need SSB go for the Tecsun otherwise 100% the Qodosen seems the far superior radio to me at least. LW reception is incredibly good for such a small radio and virually no existant on the Tecsun.

Extremely sensitive radio once you read the instructions
This is an extremely sensitive radio with good receptions. It picks up more stations than most of my other radios. Unlike some of the other reviews mine came with an included battery.

Excellent Radio
An excellent radio in terms of sensitivity, selectivity and clarity. To get the best results you do need to study the manual carefully and remember the various settings. Overall the DX-286 out performs most other world band portable radios and offers amazing value for money.

Transistor Radio that does it all!
Great value radio, Its small but loud enough for where it lives(in the loo) Its very sensitive, picks up stations my big radio can't and holds a charge well. If I was going camping its the radio I would take, as its the lightest radio I own, yet captures stations I've never heard before. Definitely One of My better buys!

What is all the fuss about?
Being popular amongst numerous reviewers, I purchased the DX-286 recently. The first thing is that the radio doesn't really work straight out of the box. Batteries (or in this case, battery) are not included. For this, you need to buy a separate battery, and it's not one you can buy in the shops. So, battery from Amazon in hand, I insert it, it looks as if it's charging and I leave it to charge. Only, it doesn't. I swap out the cable, and use a different charger. No difference. It only works directly plugged into the mains. So, let's move to the radio itself. Operation is not intuitive and is complex. The first thing you discover is that RDS on FM is not turned on by default, and "enabling" it doesn't work unless you go to a different menu and choose a custom set up.And the performance? Abysmal, I have a 15 year old Walkman cassette radio with greater sensitivity on FM than the DX-286. I have absolutely no idea why people rave about this item.Let's move on to technical support - there is none. Qodosen DO have a webpage! But support is not available there. Either the links don't exist, or most of the working links link to an FAQ page that it's totally irrelevant. And returning to Amazon? As this is a third party seller, YOU have to pay for the return, which Amazon will refund you.Do NOT buy this radio, unless you want to be disappointed

Lives up to the hype
The Qodosen is touted as a very sensitive radio and it lives up to its reputation. I also have a Tecsun PL-660 which is on par with my car’s radio but the Qodosen blows the two out of the water. It’s simply able to pull in weak radio stations with ease and greater clarity.Living in metropolitan Melbourne, I might lucky to be able to get a staticky signal of FM stations from Geelong or Gippsland on the Tecsun, but with the Qodosen, if I point the antenna right, the same stations come in with such clarity that they might as well be local stations. On FM, the difference in improved reception is very pronounced, and the Tecsun is no slouch either. On AM likewise, indoors the improvement is not as much but is still there nonetheless, partially owing to the lack of synchronous detection, which the Tecsun has. On AM frequencies where there is no local stations on similiar frequencies, the Qodosen wins easily, but on frequencies where there is a local frequency nearby, the Tecsun offers the option to choose one of the sidebands which the Qodosen does not - for example: trying to tune into 702 kHz from Sydney while 693 kHz is a local Melbourne station. Nevertheless, the Qodosen never falls behind on AM.But outdoors away from radio interference where the external whip antenna is able to be utilised for AM, the Qodosen is simply out of this world. Where there is silence on the Tecsun and the car radio, the Qodosen pulls in radio stations with ease. The gap between the Qodosen and the Tecsun and car radio feels like the gap between the Tecsun and your run-of-the-mill household radio. AM outdoors is simply not a fair comparison.Furthermore, the Qodosen also has RDS, which is a nice feature to have. It is also quite tiny, and can conveniently fit in the pocket. Overall the Qodosen is a great radio and I would highly recommend.
