Don't trust 5 star reviews, probably fake or first tank owners. First one of these the unit only worked the single summer, never worked again, it was their executive model with no external power needed. It caught lots of mosquitos, just didn't work 2nd year. This model we bought after swearing never buy mosquito magnet again, but mosquitos are bad this year so we are taking a gamble that maybe will work next year too. Reading reviews from all on this company very few have any chance working following year, so will update this review next year to see if improvements have been made or not, update after first tank quite a few dead mosquitos, but new tank change. Getting fast blinking light and failing to start. Typically these fail after one season, hopefully it starts working after only a month else never again. They need smarter designers I think. Don't waste your money on this company, they have a very poor reputation for quality. Update poor value for the money. Bad design. Logic of gas circuit needs improvement. They'd be better off with a pilot lighter than rely on circuitry to check gas as it never stays lit. Lucky to get one or two tanks to work. Did everything recommended including co2 cleaner cartridges, but no. Mosquito Magnet is junk, save your money. Just junk unless you replace unit every year as it will not work 2nd year on guaranteed. Buy a hand held zapper and lay a white tarp down and you will 10 times as many as the mosquito magnet that probably was not lit anyway

Mosquitos have only been a problem in Newport Beach for the last couple years when Asian Tigers moved in, always biting your ankles at any time of day or night. We tried several traps and other items to keep them away and finally bought two real traps, Mosquito Magnet and Biogents w/ CO2. We have one set up on each side of the yard about 20 yards apart. Biogents runs on CO2 and catches a lot of mosquitos, I think quite a few more than the propane based Mosquito Magnet. In the pics above you can see there are still 20-30 live mosquitos in the Biogents trap that have been caught in the last couple days and loads of dead ones from over the last month. The trap of the Mosquito Magnet only has a couple of live ones but it too has killed hundreds over the last month. Kind of hard to see the dead ones in both traps in the pics but must be around 1,000 combined. So Biogents catches more here at my house. Only issue with Biogents is the cost. Both items are around $300 but the Biogents uses a CO2 canister that costs over $100 and costs $35 to fill which lasts about 5 days with a 10 gallon tank (around $200 per month). Mosquito Mag uses propane so buying the tank is only $40 and $22 to fill up PLUS it lasts a full 20 days and you can find propane anywhere (around $30 per month). The convenience and cost to run the Mosquito Mag is much easier to live with over a longer period of time and it does do a good job. If you can afford the CO2 Biogents and have easy access to refill CO2, it kills more. I'm going to keep running both until we clear the area then might just keep the Mosquito Mag running long term, bringing out the Biogents if we notice more mosquitos again down the line. Either item is great and way better than anything else we tried. Very satisfying to see 1,000 mosquitos in the trap versus biting us inside and out.

We purchased the Mosquito Magnet in April to have it running by the first week of May and followed the directions precisely. It has been running for 24 hours a day 7 days a week, new propane when then tank ran out and replaced the Octenol every couple weeks and ran the quick clear nitrous. After the first couple tabs of Octenol were replaced and no mosquitos were in the trap, we ordered R-Octenol thinking we had a different mosquito species in Maryland. It is now the end of August and the Mosquito Magnet is the biggest waste of money. Not a single mosquito was trapped - the photos attached show our basket that has NEVER been emptied or replaced with the backup basket suggested by other reviews. My biggest gripe, besides the fact the Mosquito Magnet did not work at all, was you have to purchase every little item it needed to run smooth instead of including it with the MM and charging a little bit more. For example - Mosquito Magnet Quick Clear Adapter -- this part looks like it would of came in the box but you have to purchase separately along with the quick clear Nitrous Cartridge, at least one or two should of came in the box to get you through your first change. If you don't read the reviews you would not be prepared to properly take care and clean the MM. (In our case it didn't matter because not a single mosquito was caught.) I've attached photos of our backyard or as we like to call it mosquito heaven. We live near the bay, have lots of vegetation and cannot go outside without being attacked by mosquitos. We were hoping the MM would help cut down on the blood suckers, especially since a few of our neighbors have a spray service come out every couple of weeks. The pictures of the basket show you that it is EMPTY, let me remind you the machine has been running since the first week of May and has had 2 types of Octenol... we live in upper Maryland by the bay, both Octenol and R-Octenol should of worked in our zone. We were told it didn't work well from an acquaintance but we never expected it NOT to work at all!! We live in mosquito alley and wanted to lighted our mosquito population, I think next year it will be better to bring in a squad of bats and dragon flies to get the job done. Do not waste your time or money.

The Patriot Mosquito Magnet does an excellent job, killing a rounded sandwich bag full of dead mosquitos. However it would not restart after the first two propane tanks (40) days! My previous Liberty (MM) lasted 15 years and thru maintenance I kept it running before it finally gave out! I think the Liberty finally stopped working because the catalytic converter was spent. The maintenance is not the fault of the Patriot (MM), it is the fault of the propane. Propane is a dirty gas and over time it will plug the burner orifice with a tar which in the presence of heat does not flush out with the "Quick Clear Maintenance Cartridge". I feel these cartridges are a waste of money. You must disassemble the (MM) to remove the burner nozzle and soak the parts in lacquer thinner for 30 minutes. You must remove the cover screws, unscrew the base of the (MM) and lift up enough to remove the fuel valve, unscrew the fuel valve hose and finally remove the burner nozzle. Disassemble the fuel nozzle and soak in lacquer thinner. It took me 1 hour but the next time it will be only 30 minutes since I will know how to do it. Also, to save time, all screws were put back lightly, not tight. I did not reuse the screws on the cover because I want to just lift it off. It will not blow away. After all this, I pushed the start button and away it went for I suspect another 40 day operating period. As I said, you must learn how the (MM) works, how to take it apart, clean it and reassemble it. You have to void the warranty to fix it yourself. The warranty will finally run out anyway, you might as well learn how to fix it yourself from the start. If you do, you will be rewarded with many years of killing thousands of mosquitos! Obviously in addition to cleaning the (MM) the following parts may fail with use: the igniter, temperature sensor and the plug in power supply (12v). The key here is to avoid shipping the (MM) for repair. It will eat you alive with repair charges. Good luck, Ed

I can say this does catch the Tiger Mosquito. Placement is critical. I did get a table spoon or less in the box but never filled up more than that. And at peak season I would see up to 10 of these pests in the container each morning. I live in an urban area and would expect 5 bites in a 20 minute span prior to using this unit. I did not obtained 100% eradication, but I was able to go in my back yard without getting bit on every occasion. At this time I am giving a 5 star rating due to the price (was on sale) and ease of setup. This unit has started up every time with no issues yet, and nothing else has worked. It is now off season. I will update when the pests come back. I believe it will work better next year now that I have the opportunity to start eliminating them at when the season starts vs. mid season. UPDATE 2020: Season Two the unit started right up, used the previous season scent cartridge. I fired it up when the may flies showed up. It is now June and I have only had one bite this whole season, typically I would get 5 bites average each time I checked my garden. I noticed standing water in a corner of my yard and moved the unit near that location. The past two days there has been 10-20 mosquitoes in the hopper. It has rained allot this spring and I am 100% sure that this has made a huge impact on the tiger mosquitos in my small North Texas back yard. 7/2020 update: Well my MM died... I was really not happy based on other reviews of customer support and repair. So I called with little hope in getting a resolution. Called customer support and a representative walked me through trouble shooting. It was decided that the unit would need to be sent in for repair. So a shipping label was sent to me, I boxed and shipped the unit and 4 days later my repaired Mosquito Magnet arrived back at my house. I was absolutely stunned. Shipped out on the 17th and received the repair on the 23rd. The next morning there was at least 15 tiger mosquitoes in the hopper. Update on repaired MM. This is after finishing the last propane tank before it died and one full tank emptied. I don’t know if they change designs on components or what, but this unit has never worked so good. I don't know where these mosquitoes are coming from but the hopper always has more mosquitoes than ever. The pictures are after the 1.5 propane tanks of use. The full tank lasted 23 days.

After getting off the phone with Mosquito Magnet customer service, I had to get on here and write a review. Like most of you reading this now, I came on amazon and specifically searched for the mosquito magnet. I read all of these one star reviews but the mosquitos are so bad where I live in South Florida that I felt like I had no choice but to order this product. The product arrived and I was beyond impressed with how effective it was. Within two weeks the mosquito population on my property was noticeably decreased. Places where I couldn't hang out without being attacked by mosquitos now all of the sudden were clear of mosquitos. Again, I was and am extremely impressed. Unfortunately, (and this is a reoccurring theme in the reviews) after having the Patriot Plus for less than two months, it randomly stopped working. I watched videos on read the instruction manual, watching videos on youtube, and even called customer service. After wasting an hour on the phone with three different associates on three separate calls, the best they could do was send me a prepaid shipping label to have the unit "repaired." This is where the one star review comes in: You would think that the company obviously knows it has a serious quality control problem. The negative reviews on amazon alone make this point. When you spend $350 on anything and it doesn't work within the warranty period, the solution is easy: send a replacement product to your customer asap. Now I have to send the product back for repair and here's what is frustrating...all of the progress I've made on my property by having the mosquito magnet will no be lost and I will have to start over. It takes about 4 weeks to break the mosquito cycle where your property becomes more or less free of the insects. Now that I have to return the product for repair, I get to start the process all over again whenever/if I receive the repaired product. The way this company handle reoccurring quality issues with their product is unacceptable at a $350 price-point. What is so upsetting is that the product when it is working, is amazing. This isn't rocket science Mosquito Magnet...fix the reoccurring quality issues and all of the sudden your company will become more profitable because you won't have to deal with all the returns and bad reviews. It's upsetting to see such an effective product, only to learn that the quality is crap. It makes me want to find investors to buy you out and get the right quality control in place.

I have been using Mosquito magnets since they came out, one of my units has a 2001 date on the burner, so they have been around for awhile. But those are finally getting to the point of hard to find parts, so I decided it was time to replace one with the new model. First thought: Easy to assemble! The base is simpler, which is fine, the unit is stable, and it went together in about 3 minutes. Second thought: Very big net box and excellent airflow routing. The old Liberty had a smaller net and I don't think its fan was as good. This one has excellent airflow and when I hooked it up to a propane tank it started right up. Third thought: It works! I let it run overnight without any lures (other than a UV lamp) and this morning the net had a nice little bounty of small and large mosquitoes. And a few small moths. What I have learned over the decades is putting a small bug zapper on the ground under the intake attracts mosquitoes very well. Putting it low keeps the zapping of beneficial insects to a minimum and does the job of bringing mosquitoes into the area of the trap. Once there the carbon dioxide/water vapor convinces them to go into the trap where they get sucked up into the net. Oddly enough a black plastic garbage bag also seems to attract them. Go figure. The pictures show the catch after 12 hours of runtime including overnight. Anyway, I put in an Atrakta pouch (The dynatrap one) and will see how it does with the annoying Asian tiger day mosquitoes this evening. But it does seem to be working well, we shall see how it's doing in 20 years... :-) 1 week update: I put the lure in, and there are so many brown mosquitoes flying around in there! I need to get another net so I can pull one out, let them die, and empty it while the second net catches more. Impressive design.

I really wanted this to work. I bought the Mosquito Magnet, spent another $60 on attractants (tried both styles), and another $40 on propane. I followed the setup instructions carefully and ran it for weeks. I live in Southern California (Long Beach area) and we primarily deal with the aggressive tiger-striped mosquitoes (Aedes). These little black-and-white striped ones are brutal. The Mosquito Magnet simply did nothing for them. I’m giving it 3 stars instead of lower because customer service made the return/refund process smooth and hassle-free. That part was handled well. I’m not saying the product is junk for everyone. I’ve seen people in other states and more humid climates who had good results. It might work fine in different regions or with different mosquito species. But if you’re in SoCal dealing with tiger mosquitoes like I am, I personally wouldn’t recommend it.

We ordered the mosquito machine via amazon, not knowing, that the machine is sent from the US and therefore having the US-standard regarding gas connection and electricity. It has a false and misleading description, the machine is useless in the european electricity grid What a scam!

You need to buy a voltage changer & adaptor for electricity fitting not only that you will need a gas head converter too.

Purchased this machine June 2024 worked brilliantly for a year clearing midges in my garden, now just stopped working, a lot of money (£750) for item to only last a year, don't waste your money.
