Pretty good seeds in fact (with caveats)
There are a lot of hates against Scotts seeds on lawncare forums. Admittedly, these are coated seeds, so be aware that only ~50% seeds. So for a 20lbs bag you only got 10lbs seeds (so keep this in mind when comparing with other seeds and in your seeding rates). I got this with a good deal so my price for *actual* seeds is still pretty good, and got the coating for free (i'd like to think they help). I even study the cultivars of these seeds and I think they are pretty good. For mine, it got about 50% in Duration and Nano (which Scotts uses a lot but I cannot find any ratings), and about 50% in Diablos, Thor, and Temple, which are all excellent cultivars in NETP. The grass texture and color are very nice. In my overseeding, I go with a higher seeding rate than the label suggests (which is only 2lbs actual seeds per 1000 sqft, and sounds a bit low unless you lawn is already dense). I cover with compost topdress, light water 2-3 times a day, and the germination rate is very good. The germination is slow though, I don't see anything until near 14 days. I also test without cover and the germination is even slower. So keep this in mind and be patient. I don't have a weed issue (another critism this often gets) as I used with Scotts Triple Action *for seeding* with mesotrine. Overall, I think this is very good seeds. Just be aware that you pay 50% for coatings, and the seeding rate may need to go a bit higher. I would happily buy again if this is on sale.

Great seed used over 2 years
Aug 2026 Had 2 trees and stumps removed last summer which left big circles of dirt. Bought this grass seed May 2025. Seeded the areas liberally and watered every morning, sometimes in the afternoon too if they looked dry. Had germination in a few days. Just let it grow until it was extra long and lush and finally mowed it. And no weeds! Lawn looked fabulous and it’s stayed that way. Had seed left over and that got stored in a metal garbage can in my unheated garage during a Midwest winter. Fast forward to now, August 2026, and had the same scenario in my front yard with multiple trees removed. Found this bag of leftover seed and thought I’d give it a shot to see if it would still grow. I prepped the area and watered again and was so happy to see great germination in about 4 days. (Pics). Two of the other areas were actually seeded by my town and that grass was skimpy and I can see little weeds throughout. So I actually used up the rest of my seed to fill in the crappy seed the town used. I actually just ordered another bag just to keep on hand cause there’s always spots to fill in from rabbits and other beasties.

Durable, and attractive lawn.
Durable, and attractive lawn. The tall fescue mix is great for producing thick grass with good resilience, and it’s especially useful for homeowners who want a lawn that can handle everyday wear while still looking lush and healthy. The Turf Builder blend also makes it feel like a dependable option for filling in bare spots or starting fresh with good coverage. Overall, it’s a reliable, high-quality grass seed that offers excellent performance and value.

High Quality Grass Seed Mix for a Greener Fuller and Healthier Looking Lawn Year Round!
I am very happy with this Scotts Turf Builder grass seed mix. The seeds were easy to spread, and I noticed healthy growth after following the recommended instructions. It works well for improving thin areas and helps create a fuller, greener lawn. The quality of the seed blend is excellent, and it provides reliable results with proper watering and care. Overall, this is a great choice for maintaining a beautiful and healthy yard.

Zero germination rate! Waste of money
It's been 5 weeks since I planted this grass seed in my back yard. I've watered it every day...but not one blade of grass grew...not one! I planted a different brand in my front yard and the grass is flourishing. This was a waste of my hard earned money and I definitely have buyers remorse.

Followed the Directions, but Results Were Underwhelming
I followed the directions carefully and tried using this seed multiple times to fill in patchy areas, but the results were pretty underwhelming. A few small spots did grow in, which was nice to see, but most of the bare patches never fully filled the way I expected. In some areas, other grass and weeds seemed to grow in faster than the seed itself, which was frustrating after putting in the effort to prep and water consistently. It’s not a total loss, but it didn’t deliver the full, even coverage I was hoping for, so for me it was just okay.
