Panasonic RF-2400DEB-K Portable FM/AM Radio with Digital Tuner, Large Dial, Mains and Battery powered, Easy to Use Radio for Home, Travel or Outdoors

This is a very good kitchen radio indeed, very high quality for the price, weighty and substantial with a decent quality speaker that has a 1w RMS rating. This means that it can go reasonably loud without any distortion, and because it is a good speaker in itself the sound quality is very good indeed, not tinny, but with a nice intermediate tone which is otherwise nonadjustable. Unlike a lot of radios, or any equipment today, this hasn't suffered a cost-cutting exercise of not including a mains lead, and as this was to be the only power supply method that this radio was to utilize it was a necessity to have one supplied. It is also a standard lead with the figure-of-eifght connector, not one of those dumb ones that have a built in transformer. It's extremely simple to operate. There's a three-position switch above the very large and clear frequency window, the positions of which show a day-glo orange marker next to or under the function that represents its position. Put the switch all the way to the left and the radio is OFF. One click to the right it is on FM, and all the way right AM. Tuning is done with the obvious knob on the side, it is not jerky, it is smooth and stiff enougfh to be able to tune accurately, so it's extremely easy to tune, it also has a red LED that tells one when it has reached the maximum quality (signal strength) of tuning for any channel. This radio successfully picked up BBC Radio Wales, which is something that I was barely able to do with my old one - ever, and it picked it up with a strong enough signal to light that LED, This means that the aerial and the components inside are very good too. Volume is controlled by a knurled wheel on the side and it also had a headphone jack.

Great simple little radio

Panasonic is a very good brand both for TV and radio.I had a very old Grundig radio but the sound was so poor that it was time to scrap it I was looking for a radio with no frills just good clear sound a bedtime radio if you like and this little radio was the answer the sound is pin sharp admittedly through headphones and just as good as the local relay will allow ! Faults only that the tuning width is very narrow and a bit fiddly to get just right but it does not seem to 'drift' off Radio 4 which is the only station I use so a bargain price for excellent [mono] sound ----just the radio I needed !

Bought this as a portable radio for when we go to some of the racetracks around the UK to listen in to commentary whilst trackside. Works a treat for what we want. Pros: - Easy to dial in, picks up signals clearly - Volume is loud, even trackside we've never got close to having it at full volume. - Batteries - Simple AA batteries are easy to use, and the battery life is great. - Light. Doesn't way a lot so you aren't hauling a load of extra weight with you. Possible Cons: - The handle doesn't fold flush with the radio, so always sticking out slightly. Not an issue, just makes it a tiny bit more awkard if you don't have much storage space. - That's all, can't really fault it.

The Panasonic 2400DEB-K Portable Radio has been around for well over fifteen years but is just so well-designed that there is really no need to improve or update it. It you want one of the best AM/FM radios still available then this model has a lot to offer – there is obviously no DAB, and the lack of Long Wave may put some buyers off, but for performance and features it is hard to beat at the price. It has a large speaker for it's size – this can be seen in the illustration – and the tuning scale is clear with FM marked in MHz and European Channel numbers, with AM in both KHz and Metres. The Panasonic RF 2400D is battery/mains and can be powered by four AA batteries (not supplied) or by AC using the supplied detachable power cord. It features a sliding band/power switch, a large rotary tuning knob, a discreet volume control and a 3.5mm headphone jack for private listening – no phones are supplied. A telescopic FM aerial, LED tuning indicator and folding carrying handle complete this rather attractive little radio that is one of the best portable radios I've owned – good on both FM and Medium Wave - I have been using it a lot to listen to Radio Caroline's AM service on 648 KHz during lockdown. If you can find one at around thirty quid you will get one of the best radios at the price and the Panasonic 2400DEB-K model - made by Panasonic Indonesia - gets five stars for value and the features it offers.

Sent mine back - mains cable did not even fit into the radio connection - still awaiting refund from April

Does the job it's designed for well. Picks up regular AM and FM stations easily and stays locked on. It has a good clear sound and plenty of volume. Not for DXing, it's not especially sensitive, just adequate. Batteries last fairly well. In short it does what it says on the tin. EDIT. For those of you who do like to 'DX', attaching about 15 inches of wire to the antenna transforms FM, pulling in loads of stations from neighbouring counties.

I have checked 3-4 radios before this radio but no one had shown a satisfactory performance. I always wished to present my mother a good radio. Here ends my search. The sound quality of the radio is very clear and loud. The FM reception is crystal clear and AM reception is also satisfactory. The design and build of the radio is much appealing. It works on both cells and power supply. My mother uses it wherever she wants by plugging its cord into the electricity mains. Altogether a relaxing experience after buying 4th radio. No more searching for radios on Amazon now. We are happy.

Very good sound, aerial does need to be moved from time to time but overall very happy with purchase.

Me gusta mucho la estética. Se oye estupendamente. Muy manejable para moverla de un sitio a otro que es para lo que la quería. Funciona con pilas y con cable. Es más grande de lo que pensaba pero no es problema.
