Series 5000 Multi Grooming Kit MG5730/33

For years I used professional clippers to cut my hair and beard. I ran an extension lead into the bathroom to sort out my hair and beard, something that I was not exactly comfortable about. Bathrooms and extension leads are not a good combination. Eventually I found some clippers here on Amazon that cut my hair brilliantly and were cordless. These are still my favorite hair clippers, but they are not very good at sorting out my beard. I have been letting my beard grow until I got fed up of it and then cutting it off and starting again. I purchased another grooming set for my beard a few months ago and it was absolutely useless. The teeth in the clipper blade were too narrow to cut my thick beard hair and it ended up in the drawer gathering dust. So I was back to growing it again and I reached the point where I was fed up of it a few days ago. I decided to try another grooming set and after a fair bit of research I settled on this one. Please see the attached video for my detailed review. The clippers are just what I was looking for. They dealt with my beard with ease. I tried cutting my hair and they will get that job done too. My only criticism is that the clipper blade is a bit narrow for hair cutting and you need way more passes to cut it properly. Not a big issue, but anyone who cuts their own hair like I do, will know the compulsion to keep going over it to make sure that you have not missed anywhere. A small blade leaves more room for error. There are a good selection of combs 3 for your hair (9, 12, 16mm), three for your beard (1, 2, and an adjustable comb 3 to 7mm) and one body hair comb (3mm). The adjustable comb for the beard is great and I reckon it will be the one I use permanently. The blade is great on its own for detailing longer areas of your beard or hairline and there is also a much narrower blade for finer detailing work. There is a shaver attachment and I tried this, it was partially successful, but not really up to the task. I think that the foil holes are too small, on finer hair I think it would be fine. The nose and ear clipper works well. Once you are finished you just rinse the clippers under the tap to clean the attachments. The set is waterproof and there is an answered question above, in the questions section, where the manufacturer says that using it in the shower is OK. The instructions are pretty poor and consist of several pages of images and no text, so no actual written instructions - poor show Philips. You are informed that the battery needs to be charged for 16 hours before use. Unfortunately, there is no indication of when the battery is fully charged or when it is running out of power - another poor choice. I will just charge mine for a few hours every other time I use them. There are 80 minutes usage time on a full charge. 16 hours is a ridiculously long time to charge a battery for nowadays! It has to be said though, that cordless grooming is a pure joy and far safer. The blades do not require oiling and are self sharpening, I have no idea how they do that, but the unit comes with a 4 year guarantee, so they must be confident that they will work that long. The clippers have a nice feel to them with a soft rubber grip. They are very quiet to use and fitting/removing the attachments and combs is easy. I like this product and am very happy to have found a grooming set that can deal with my beard for not too much outlay. After a few minutes use I was left looking considerably more handsome than I was before I started (remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder). Mind you, my wife never seemed to notice, but at least she never asked me why I had shaved my beard off, because this time I did not have to! Not itching under my chin and around my neck anymore has left a huge smile on my face. It is good to be able to sort out my beard easily again.

In all honesty, for the amount you pay, this is a great product. A lot of people reviewed this product with their own little inconveniences. I mean all-in-all this is a sturdy little trimmer. The trimmer itself feels like very good quality, and the clippers clip in tightly. Everything works as advertised, and I'm more impressed than not. By the way, it does work while charging... not sure why mine is different?? Pros: Good quality and affordable Works better than other trimmers I've used Dynamic with multiple interchangeable pieces Cuts hair neatly, incl man scaping with NO PAIN!! Cons: Charging could be improved - it would be ideal to have a charging stand Battery life could be improved, but it's not like you're going to be spending more than an hour working your hair. Tidiness- you do have to keep your pieces in the open. You can't really figure out what's what from within the bag. But just put them in a bowl or dump them out of the bag with every use. This isn't a huge deal really... Again, the pros really outweigh the cons. The price is competitive with all the other trimmers out there. I was looking to get either a wahl or the braun. Picked Philips over everything else due to price and reviews. Very happy with my choice. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy tidy up before the start of each day. Cheers

Will be keeping this review updated. So far after only a couple uses of it (beard only). It seems to cut evenly but I need to let my beard grow out a little before I trim it back - I usually keep it to maybe 3mm or 4mm long, so pretty tight and short. And use a blade for cheek edges and neck line. However when it grows out I'll trim it back and also do my usual weekly body hair trim. Those are the real tests. However - so far it's good. Quality of it feels nice, it's easy to grip, simple to charge, simple to detach and reattach comb lengths. Not tried the nose or ear trimmer yet. It came with a soft drawstring mini-bag for it which isn't very useful. Edit: Been a while now... 1. It works really well on body hair with the fixed length 3mm attachment (that also says "body" on it so it's clear what it's aimed for :) 2. I do find having to go over the same spot about three times - that could just be me trying to make it perfect though, but after three times you spot hearing it cut anything so you know it's done... 3. It washes well. I often rinse under water to clear hair etc from the blades. I've got some oil (specifically for razor blades) to apply if it starts to seize up in future. 4. It is messy - hair flies around when you're beard trimming for example. Someone else said - this is better suited to use outdoors as hair gets everywhere...and I agree! 5. The carry pouch is rubbish - pointless piece of cloth. I'd recommend finding a hard case to carry it around if you travel. Reason I say this - I took it in the carry pouch in a bag with other toiletries (deodorant etc) and I think it must have got knocked or damaged a bit as the blade doesn't sit as tightly in the main unit as it did before...

This seems well made, the battery life has been excellent so far and the cut is precise with the very sharp teeth. Swapping over the heads or attachments is straightforward and the nose trimmer attachment is easily one of, if not the best i've used. It just seems get stuck into nasal hair with ease unlike similar trimmers i've used where i feel i might push up against some grey matter to get them to cut. This just trimmed the hair no problems at all. It's all really good but what surprised is the motor noise. It doesn't sound like a bag of spanners but i've used no name trimmers that sound more refined than this and they cost a fraction with more accessories! Overall i can't fault the cut and use of this, but at the current price of £64.99 there are better value options for what this is.

I am writing the review at the end of its life - it stopped working this morning for no apparent reason. I bought this almost exactly 3 years ago and I have looked after it in a normal way (sometimes gets left in the shower, no special treatment except to dry it before putting back in bathroom cabinet). It has been excellent. It does not shave as close as a blade, but as used for shaping/tidying scraggy bits of beard no problem. Used on bear and hair. Although quantity of hair is declining always comments from barbers on thick hairs, so not lightweight floaty stuff. Good quality plastic fittings and cuts well dry/wet. I always do this in the shower and I live in a very hard water area so it has become a little calcified on the handle but everything else has been clear and working as the day it was bought. All round good quality. Its predecessor lasted 2 years. Cheaper brands do not deem to last the year so probably worth the increased cost (I think I bought it on special offer). I'd recommend.

Well my last set of clippers the plastic deteriorated and perished so the teeth broke and the height adjuster no longer worked, so despite the clippers working I decided to go with this later model. The clippers are great, ergonomic (feel great in the hand) and the battery life very good too. They are also easy to clean. So what is my BUT??? I have a whole box of attachments that I feel I need to keep even though I can't really see me using them.. and the biggest 'BUT' of all is the clip on blade and attachment mechanism. There's a knack to replacing the head or adding the height adjuster. Once you get the hang of it it just clips on an off with ease... trouble is almost too much ease. The height adjuster guard works well but I've notice the back where it clips on the blade there is quite a bit of play. Okay it doesn't affect the height mechanism while trimming but it just feels a tiny bit wobbly. The metal blade is a much more snug fit and actually clips on quite nicely... but if you knock the blade downwards with any slight force it can just detach itself. There's just an interference fit/clip rather than a locking mechanism so I'm a bit concerned that constant removing of the head to clean it may wear the plastic over time making it worse. Don't let this put you off, but it does feel like a little but of a design weak spot.

I don't use these as much as my wife tells me I should.. in fact, 4 out if 5 times I just trim the length of my tash so I don't get it wet when drinking tea or whisky.. seems reasonable right? But when I do use it to mow the lawn on my face, it's amazing. No joke. I've tried more clippers than I'd care to admit but these bad boys are where it's at. The battery is incredibly. I barely charge them and when I'd do, it's been that long since the last time that I actually panic a little because I can't remember where I put the charging cable! The sizes are very consistent and have a great range in mm's. They have 'body' attachments that I've never used because.. well, I have no body hair that I'd trim.. (at least not with the same razor I use on my face. If you get me?) The nose and ear trimmers work better than any standalones I've ever used and as it's not digital, there is no risk of 'malfunction/human error'. Definitely a good buy that's very well priced. I'm sure greatly more expensive trimmers are better? Maybe they trim you neaty without you having to use your own hand or brain? I don't know, I wouldn't buy them. This guy here, he is respective to your needs and won't let you down.

This is a really good product. Best i would say. A wise decision if you wanna get a multigrooming kit. This is a go!

Plenty of attachments for beard, hair, and body grooming. Blades are sharp and cut evenly. Battery lasts long enough for multiple uses. Easy to clean and store. A practical and well-rounded trimmer

This item is just amazing from the quality to the wonderful results it gives. This basically is the best thing to buy it you want every thing from hair, beard, to body hair. It has so many additions for all types of hair and beards and even allows for a variety of styles. Only problem is that the blade is a bit tough not that smooth. Moreover, it needs multiple goes over the hair. Finally, it’s not the best for shaving beard but its amazing for trimming. Finally, I would recommend this if u want an all in one high quality machine but if u want something specific better get a specialized one.

Had been disappointed with incapability to run directly when plugged in like old Phillips model. No battery indicator so stopped working in middle so took couple of hours to run again after charging. Will proceed for return and will not recommend. Also don’t have Aus plug so check seller location before ordering.
