I cannot express how disappointed I am in this item. I was suspicious of it when I opened the package. I am so glad I tested it before I wasted my time mounting it anywhere. I tested it with a fully exposed steel item weighing a total of 7 pounds. It wouldn't even pick it up one end when more than half of it was supported on the table. I'm sorry I didn't test this with a small 5 lb dumbbell. No matter, it wouldn't have worked.I don't normally recommend steering clear of an item when I review. I simply try and be informative, objective and let the reader decide. Do not waste your time with this magnet. It was a complete failure. My plan was to mount this discreetly in my car for a mid-size handgun (about 2 pounds loaded). I would not trust it to remain secure and prevent the gun from moving or shifting during a hard braking/acceleration or God forbid a crash. The gun would go flying and become a dangerous projectile in the vehicle. Stay away. WIll not work as advertised. Will be returning post haste.Update: 09/02/2019: I was told by seller they’d send me a replacement to try. The only thing I promised in return was to update the review. Some months later I am still waiting. Sad they don’t really stand behind their products or their word. This is my final edit on my review.

Best Magnet I've Found
There's many magnets available online and I'm sure the quality ones are all about the same. I mean, it's a coated magnet, there's not much you can mess up in producing one right? This one in particular, I would include with being a high quality magnet. It comes in a box with all the hardware, properly packaged, and shipped quickly. The magnet itself is very strong, it holds my FN FNS-9 Long Slide with no issues what so ever.

Good magnet, bad tape.
The magnet holds strong. The double sided tape is garbage. I was pleased with the strength of the magnet. It held firm on the firearm and didn't budge, even with shaking. The double sided tape was a different story. It wouldn't even hold the weight of the magnet alone. The only effective way to mount this magnet under a vehicle dash is with screws. The tape is a definite no go.

Made of good quality materials!
Strong Magnet. Holds firearm securely under desk as intended. I would recommend it to a friend. It's worth the extra couple dollars for the quality.

Strong magnet, holds large caliber auto
Holds my F&N .45 (large auto) with no problems. The adhesive does nothing but hold it in place while you put the screws in...but the install took me maybe 5 minutes. Just don't over tighten the screws and you'll have no problems

A lot thicker than competitors but this magnet will get the job done. It holds great and even looks great! Highly recommend.
