PORTAL 6/8/10 Person Family Camping Tent with Screen Room

I’m obsessed with this tent! My boyfriend and I are avid campers, and we do a lot of travel camping where we are packing up and setting up our campsite quite a bit. We wanted a bigger tent that was still small enough to pack easy, a tent that is better in rain and wind, and a tent that wasn’t a pain to set up- this was the winner!! This was very easy to set up and take down, but I will say if you only have one person I think it would be a little bit harder to put up, but with two people it was easy! We haven’t had down pouring rain since we’ve had this tent, but we have use it in the rain and everything was completely dry and it held up very well and I was never worried about it. It’s done well with decent wind gusts and so far it seems to be pretty sturdy! It’s nice and spacious, we typically air up an air mattress, but if you didn’t use an air mattress, you could very easily fit six people if not more depending on how big they are in this tent. Having the little outdoor component is amazing! It really helps us keep the inside of the tent nice and clean and it’s also nice for shade, keeping the bugs away and just having another little space that’s not zipped up in the tent! Air ventilation is good, if you have the window open, you can get some good airflow, but on the other hand if it’s really cold, it feels like it keeps body heat in the tent pretty well. It was also very easy to fold up and get back in the bag, we’ve had a lot of struggle with folding tents up and making them fit back in their original bag… But this one was not a problem at all! The zippers are nice and smooth so far as well which is great because anyone who camps knows a messed up zipper is so frustrating. We almost got the 8 person tent but we were afraid it would be too big, but I think it would have been great! For the space this tent gives, it doesn’t take as much ground space as I was expecting! All in all I give this tent a 10/10 and we are excited to use this tent more often!

The TLDR of my review is: This is a fantastic tent! It’s a great deal for a tent that has a lot of positive features. For the longer version of the review: I just started camping this year. I wanted to buy a tent that 1) was tall enough for me to stand up inside (I’m 5’5”), 2) had a screened porch or vestibule for additional gear storage, and 3) was big enough to fit two people with cots very comfortably. Right off the bat while researching, I found my stipulations eliminated most dome tents. I wasn’t willing to spend $400+ on a tent when I originally wasn’t sure if I would love camping or only go 1-2x per year, so budget came into play as well. I also live and camp in Colorado, so durability against high winds, variable temps, and sudden rainstorms was a must. I bought this tent and have now used it for 5 camping trips this summer. I can safely say that it’s a fantastic budget tent, with some caveats. 1) Durability with weather: 10/10* It has rained heavily, ranging from 20-minute downpours to 3 straight days of rain, in 4 of 5 of my trips. CO storms also have heavy wind gusts, and this has stood up to 40mph gusts with no breakage. I also find the rain fly, while not a full one, covers all the windows and doors and prevents leakage. Now, the * is because I use a tarp for a footprint, add a tarp inside to protect the floor, and have weather proofed the outside with weatherproof spray and seam sealers. I feel like this is a must for all tents though. But I have had zero rain enter the tent, even on the 3-day rain fest session I experienced. (I did cover the tent with another tarp overtop during this trip though, seeing the forecast. But still, no leaks otherwise, either.) You will want to put a tarp in the screened porch area and potential cover the outside of the screened porch with a tarp if heavy rain is expected though, because that part does get wet. 2) Ease of setup and take down: with two people, 8/10. With one person: 0/10 If you’re short like me, this will be a no-go for setup and take down. It’s just too tall and too unwieldy to put up with one person IMO. With two people, even two shorter women (like my friend, who is 5’2”, and me), it is totally doable. There are a lot of guylines - good for weather durability and bad for ease of setup - but I got an impact driver and screw-in tent pegs and that has made the process much faster. It takes my friend and me about 25 minutes to set up and 20 minutes to break down. 3) Extra features: 10/10 I love that this tent has fully screened in doors and windows so there can be plenty of ventilation without letting bugs in. The screens have held up very well (much better than the other higher-name 4p tent I bought that had rips in the seem after one use). My friend and I use full cots and a mini table and still have plenty of space inside. I have the 8-person tent and I could fit 4 people very easily - more if we pack in. The screened porch has been excellent for shoe removal, gear storage, and even cooking space when it was raining nonstop. After 5 trips, I have no unraveled seams. The zippers all work well. There are a couple of gear storage holders too, some built in. And I haven’t gotten soaked during what seems to be a ton of rain. It is VERY heavy, so it’s definitely meant for car camping, not backpacking). It’s super functional and easy to use. A con: it IS big (about 20 ft long once full up). We have had one site that was too small for our site tent pad. For the rest, we made it work. I would absolutely recommend this tent to others, especially if they’re looking for a more budget tent.

Alright, this is a pretty massive tent. You can definitely set this thing up by yourself and with a 3 yr old "helping", but it will be a bit challenging. Things I like: Power chord opening. Fantastic. If I have to run a chord, I can do so without leaving the tent door open. Side Screen room: Amazing. Being able to put some chairs there and keep the bugs away is a huge plus. Additional places for storage: Awesome. I can put things like sleeping bag pouches, keys, wallets, headlamps, etc away and in a convenient place that won't get lost. Doormat: Very nice touch. Things I wish it would include: A divider for the tent would be nice to section off the tent, but there are other tents with this option. If you get this one, know that you won't have one of those. I wish the side screen area would have a loop that we could hang a lamp or something from. Since the tent has a little doormat for the front, I wish it had one for the other door leading to the tent screen. When you walk in the tent, there is a big window on the left which is great. I wish it had a window/screen for the back of the tent. Just a small thing. The color-coded poles are nice, but the tape is rather on the cheap side. I would definitely get some electrical tape and do a few loops for security. Best to have some good quality tape instead of that tape fading and you are struggling to figure out which heavy duty pole goes where. The thing I can see that could be an issue in a big rainstorm is the tent opening. When the rainfly is over it and you have the fiber pole installed, there is a small area that rain could come in sideways and into your tent. It's not too big, but if the storm is pretty bad, that's an area that could get you and your stuff wet. An easy fix is to put a smaller tarp where that area is, but at this price point, I think this is something that should have been thought about. Overall, it's a great tent and plenty of room for me, my wife, and the two little kids. This is definitely a "forever" tent that will be well-cared for.

This is a great tent! It held up just fine thru rain and wind camping from MN to GA and back with 3 adults and 2 kids (1 kids with a cot). Still had plenty of room. I can put it up by myself, but super easy and quick setup with 2 ppl. All of the zippers have held up against the constant in and out of 2 littles. The porch is my favorite feature. Spacious enough for 2 chairs, a small table, and rolling cooler with plenty of room to enter/exit without moving. My only complaint, is that it's an open floor. For it's size, it's very lightweight. It only uses 9 total poles. Color coordinated, 3 top bars & 6 support poles.

I had this tent for about 3 years and have used it twice. Initially, the tent worked well. It was spacious enough and had great height. The material of the tend itself was sturdy. Unlike other tent models, you can leave the rain fly off and still have enough privacy. However, set up for this tent is more complicated than other tent models. The first two times we set up this tent, we had little to no issues. The main problem is that the instructions of the tent poles. The instructions indicate there are three different colors associated with the poles: white, gray, and brown, blue, or green. The colors we received were gray, dark gray, and purple. We had been able to match the poles with the appropriate location the first two times. However, when we attempted to set it up a third time, we encountered a problem where the poles were not catching correctly in the tent, causing the poles to bend in an awkward position and tug tightly on the tent material. We attempted a to reposition the poles, to switch them with other poles (in case we had the colors messed up), different set ups until one of the poles completely snapped. While the tent itself is nice and comfortable, I just feel as though there are better tent options that are less complicated and don't come with mismatched instructions, especially considering the price.

Update: I've had this tent for a while now but am updating now that I've had the chance to use it a couple of times. The first time out, the roof was super saggy and I had a heck of a time hoisting it all up (not difficult but took more effort than I later realized was needed). So much of the chilly air kept gusting in because of the huge gap between the mesh roof and the rain fly. Fast forward to having gained lots more experience camping, and I realize this is the kind of tent that definitely needs to be staked down FIRST. As if magically, having all sides staked and secured made setup that much easier! I didn't have to hoist or work to pull the whole shebang up at all! Just inserted the poles easily and víolá. Besides that, having the base properly staked resulted in a nice taught roof just like the product images. What I great reward that was to see lol I enjoyed my trip much better this time having had the tent set up much better than the first time. Yay ^_^ Original Review: I'm so excited to use this tent for the first time! I set it up in my living room which had me climbing on the sofa to do because it's so big lol Easy to set up (if you don't mess up like I did despite the directions and another reviewer's advice). Let me reiterate this one point to save someone else the mistake lol... PAY ATTENTION TO THE POLE COLORS. I honestly thought I'd put the colors in the right way, but in the end, I had the long pole where the short pole (the colored one...mine was blue) was meant to go and spent several minutes struggling to get that part situated. Once it finally dawned on me what I'd done, the rest of the setup was a breeze. I did it solo even though it says it's a 2 person job. I was concerned about the quality of the roof poles as they are fiberglass and seemed a bit thin/fragile. I saw a review where someone's had broken, so I think I had that in mind too. They bent normally though and went up just fine. Even though I am tall, if setting up solo, it might be a good idea to place the rain fly on top before raising it because the top does seem rather high even for me. It packs away nicely (unlike the last horrible tent that I had to return and could barely get back in the carry bag let alone the box)... And is not too heavy at about 20lbs. Very spacious inside. I got a queen size mattress the go in horizontally because there would be just too much empty space with just a twin bed. I also really love the little porch part and hope it will keep bugs away while cooking.

I do wildland fire fighting. So i live in the tent for months at a time. Having a tent thats big enough to stretch out in and stand up is awesome. I got the 8 person style that includes the bug net on the front. Does very well prevent pugs getting in that area making a little patio area. Great ventilation with the mesh roof. I add additional waterproofing spray to the fabric and a silicon like glue to the seams inside. Never saw a drop of rain in the tent. During my last fire we had wind with up to 50mph sustain gust. With the supplies tiedowns and stake the tent held up great better then I suspected. It did fail in the long run with the thick support poles bending some and parts that connect the tent to the support poles breaking at the stitching. Still stood up far better then other tents that size. Zippers also were great quality, side door would get stuck every sonoften due to design but still good quality. Over all for the price well worth it and really added to the recover process after long nights. I had a full size air mattress with a camping chair and table set up with plenty of room to spare making it even more comfortable. Also if done correctly can be put up by a single person. Customer support direct with the company was also awesome to work with. Rating was gonna be 5stars regardless if they were able to help me.out or not

Nice tent 6 person tent. After 2 weeks I decided to finally put the tent up (due to the rain), but when I started to assemble it the roof sticks were broke. I reached out to customer service that same day they have gotten back to me however I still have not received the roof sticks. I received an email today asking for my mailing address smh. I’m like I sent all of the necessary information why is it taking so long? I recommend a tent like this but not from this company.

Very pleased with my purchase. Honestly, it's the easiest setup of a tent I've experienced. Lots of room to sleep 6 very comfortably. Would be a little crammed with 8 though, unless they are all small people. Love the screen room. You can fit four chairs in there easily or two chairs and a small table. The removable top is a sweet deal. It allows for the tent to stay much cooler than tents without this feature. Completely waterproof, no issues. It does sway a fair bit in slight wind, so you'll need a somewhat sheltered area for setup. Overall, it's fantastic. Very pleased with my purchase.

Worked great when we camped in the summer. You need 2 people to set it up but it was a easy set up. Lots of room. When we used the front entry with the mosquito netting it really did reduce the number of mosquitoes that tried to get into the tent.

First time setting it up and a tent pole snapped, they're also supposed to be colour coded, but only one part of each pole is. So I have the leg poles that are all colour coded, but the roof poles aren't, so it was trial and error to figure out what went where. Now I have the the tent but no screened in area, when is causing some sagging in the tent and now it's leaking. Overall not a great experience.
