I have both of these Dave Barry stories to my grandson for his 10th birthday. He loves the stories and the adventures described. Great choices for this age group and reading level!

A great book to read *to* your children
I started reading "Peter and the Starcatchers" to my 6 & 8 year old children earlier this summer. Our bed/nighttime reading was normally books that we could read through in one sitting or maybe over 2-3 nights. I wasn't sure they were ready for long, multi-chapter books. But, oh, were they into the book! I would even stop mid-chapter and ask if they knew what was going on or remembered what had happened previously and they did... this book captured their attention, without a doubt! Even my husband - after he read in my place when I was gone one night around chapter 10 - would come running in at story time to listen. We were so excited when "Peter and the Shadow Thieves" came out right when we finished "Peter and the Starcatchers" so that we could find out what happened to Peter Pan next. There are many chapters, some as short as a page, and every night I heard "one more chapter, PLEASE" over and over. It was easy to say yes! We are pining away for the next in the series.I've been a Dave Barry fan from his early days as a columnist and can see his quirky sense of humor surface often in these books. I'm not (yet) familiar with Ridley Pearson's work, but I've bought "The Kingdom Keepers" for my kids for Christmas and I hope that will be an interesting a read for us. My 8 year old will find "Escape from the Carnivale: A Never Land Book" under the tree in a few days and I'm confident that he will enjoy it as these books really do a great service to inspire love of reading in young and old alike. Advanced readers (maybe 6th grade reading level and up) will enjoy these books for themselves, but for younger kids, read it *to* them and they will come to love books too.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE AN ADULT, JUST SETTLE BACK AND ENJOY IT
Dave Berry continues his stories light hearted stories of how Peter Pan learned to fly. Is it a children's book, I don't know because I enjoy it and it has bee a LONG TIME since I have been a child.Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have gotten together again and the out come is wonderful. This is book 2 of their series and just as enjoyable. If you are looking for deep fiction, this is not the book for you, but it is a light adventure story that will keep children of all ages amused as you turn the pages.Don't be afraid, go ahead and enjoy it.

Raves for the audio CD version, with Jim Dale as narrator
I listened to both this second book in the series and the first one on unabridged audio, narrated by Jim Dale, who narrated the Harry Potter audiobooks. Jim Dale is my very favorite audiobook reader, so when I found out he narrated this one, I was on board for the sequel!I loved the first book and passed it around to all of my friends, and this book was a good follow-up, but it did have a few parts that dragged. The pacing was slower in this than in the first one, and I found myself feeling a tiny bit impatient or bored through a few parts. That said, it was still an excellent and enjoyable book, and if you read the first one then I highly recommend getting into this second book as well.I love Barry and Pearson's sense of humor, and I love anything to do with pirates, so Black Stache and the rest were a lot of fun for me. Dale's performance, of course, was impeccable, and if you like being read to I'd definitely recommend this audio version over reading it on the page, just because of Jim Dale.

Peter and the Shadow Thieves Review
I gave this review because it felt like this book was like other books but then it wasn't. It brought some thing new, something that hasn't been gone. Sure, people tell how famous fairy tell characters came to be, but not Peter Pan. I liked this book series because I love the Disney movie of Peter Pan, and because of all the non stop adventure and that each one introduces a new character. I just couldn't to go to bed, just to see what happen next. I was very pleased with this book because it was written well and it seemed a lot of heart and thought was put in to it, and because of the illustrations. They definitely helped the reader see the story in the way the author wanted them to. I recommend this book to any one whom has read "Percy Jackson" (which I have read) , "The Kingdom Keepers" (which I have also read), or just enjoy a good adventure before bed. - YOGO

Love this book
I very much like this book and the characters. It introduces another villian, Lord Ombra. But I am not going to tell you yet, you have to get the book to find out what it is. This is the second book in the series.1. Peter and the Starcatchers2. Peter and the Shadow Theives3. Peter and the Secret of Rundoon4. Peter and the Sword of Mercy5. The Bridge to NeverlandIf you love the Mollusks as much as I do, (nevermind, its impossible!) I recommend1, 3, and 4 on the list, because it has more of them. If you want more Ombra, 2, 3, 4, and 5 five are go to for that. If you want the Darling family, 4 is what you need. Molly and her father are in all the books except 5. But I seriously recommend reading the entire series because it is AWESOME! Hope this helps!

Peter and the Shadow Thieves
Fabulous book! My kids and I liked it even better than the first one in this series (Peter and the Star Catchers), which we also loved! These books are prequels to the original Peter Pan and are very well written. It has lots of very short chapters, which makes it easy to read with your children. It gets you very interested in what is going on with one character, then switches back to a different character, which makes you not want to stop reading it! This one is more intense than the first one and might be a little scary for younger children.

Loved it
Jim Dale reads Peter and the Shadow Thieves with consummate skill. Once you get over the similarities of his character voices to Harry Potter, the listening is full-on enjoyment. The writing skill of the authors is clearly evident and their ability to put a pre-story to Peter Pan is as enlightening as it is delightful. I am 48 years old and would highly recommend this story to anyone who appreciates a touch of whimsy added into their reading or listening pleasure.
