Excellent Noise Generator
This is a really useful bit of kit for those of us who can't sleep in silent rooms, or who are easily disturbed by external noise. It's expensive, but much better-built (in the USA) than the cheaper units, and has been designed with what appears to be genuine thought. The most important plus point is probably that the fan sounds are synthesised on the fly rather than being the looped recordings used on many other units. This makes the Lectrofan much more relaxing to have in the background as there are no repetitions for your brain to fixate on. There's a good variety of noises to select. Many of the fan styles sound quite industrial which might not be to everyone's taste, but there are some gentler ones that work well in a domestic setting. Others have a low-frequency hum or rumble that doesn't sound appealing at first but can actually be useful in blocking out unwanted sounds of a similar frequency like distant thudding music in a hotel. The white noises cover ten different frequencies, giving plenty of options for people who prefer a 'clean' background noise rather than the more realistic fan sounds. It's also worth noting that the volume cranks up incredibly loud for such a small unit - far louder than I could imagine ever needing. The small size also makes it easy to transport - it is much more convenient than carting round a portable fan like I used to do when on holiday.

LectroFan allowed me to have a full nights rest!
I bought the LectroFan out of desperation after having dealt with very noisy neighbors for a few months. Long story short, they would go to bed very late and wake up early and my partner and I could just hear EVERYTHING going on in their apartment which would wake us up. I tried using earplugs and talking to them but nothing worked...so buying the LectroFan was sort of a last resort before reporting my neighbors to the landlord. It took maybe a night to get used to sleeping with the LectroFan on but after the first couple of nights, I was so grateful for it! It gives you a wide range of different types of fan sounds that you can choose from. As many have commented, the device provides constant noise without an obvious looping that a recording might have. PROS: -Easy to use. -Compact and would be easy to travel with (if needed). -Has a variety of sounds so you can choose which one you like the most. -Loud volume. -EFFECTIVE! Can't hear my neighbors or street noise anymore :) CONS: -It was on the expensive side but I honestly don't regret paying the amount I did. It was well worth the amount! OVERALL: I honestly don't know why I went so long without considering this to be an option. I sleep well and don't hear my neighbors anymore. I use this to sleep during the day and am not disturbed. It's so effective that if I go to bed before my partner, it just cancels out the loud noises from him playing video games. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with similar issues!! :)

Such a relief from 24 hour noise from neighbour!
I use this Lectrofan in combination with 2 Roffies and one Senelux (seems identical to the Roffies) to try and drown out the noise from my horrid neighbour who plays noise 24 hours a day - even when he's not in. This lets me sleep - and I put the 2 Roffies etc onto rain sounds, the combination gently outdoes most (but not all) of what he puts out if you have your head on the pillow. Wonderful machines! Update Oct 2022 - since we have started to have sneaky power cuts in the middle of the night, the Roffies (and one Senelux) don't come back on when power is restored - but this DOES!! The first time we had a power cut in the night my neighbour's noise machine didn't come back on, and I had the best night of sleep in two years (since he's been doing this). The next few times he has found a way of making his noise machine turn back on after a power cut - so I get woken as one of these machines on its own is not enough to drown out his noise. Got to buy another one, sadly - they are expensive! This continues making whatever noise you've set it on when power is restored - vital for many sufferers from bad neighbours.

Such a Relief
This machine has really made a difference to how I feel. I was dealing with constant neighbour noise, all day and often until 2 or 3am. Downstairs have a screaming baby that never seems to stop, they also stamp around, shout and slam doors and have a daily stream of shouty visitors and the ones next door treat their flat like an after party venue for their friends, once the pubs close. Then at 5am downstairs get up for work and the shouting, slamming, stamping, screaming etc... begins again. I was really struggling to cope with it all. I Googled noisy neighbours, and discovered white noise machines. After a bit of research, the LectroFan kept coming out as the best one, so out of desperation I ordered one. The first day I found the LectroFan sound a bit annoying, I kept clicking through all the different fan sounds and trying different volumes, but nothing seemed quite right. I didn't like any of the white noises either. I persevered though, having it on all night and during the day as a kind of background noise. I think my ears just needed training (sounds weird I know!), my habit of listening out for neighbour noises was hard to break so I was straining to hear things over the machine's noise. Gradually I forgot to listen out for noises and now I don't even know if my neighbours are at home half the time. I vaguely hear stamping and the odd slammed door, but it's kind of in the distance and not intrusive. The white noise machine seems to form a protective layer of sound, so that everything else just blends in and doesn't really register as an individual noise. You just need to get used to it, so that you no longer even hear the white (or pink fan) noise. I am using it a LOT! I really hope it doesn't stop working, like other reviewers have mentioned. I think it's brilliant and I am so grateful to have found a solution, to what was becoming a living hell. The only negative about this particular machine is the lack of dials, or LCD display. I don't understand why it only has the click buttons, because there are 20 different sounds and many different levels of volume, so it takes a while to find one that works. The problem is that you have no way of telling which sound it is, or how high the volume is, so if it gets knocked or the power cable comes out, you lose the setting. Also if you unplug it and move it to a different room, it goes back to factory settings. Really annoying! Finally, as it isn't obvious, you can set the timer for longer than 60 minutes. Every time you click the 60 minute button, it adds up, so three click is 180 minutes. Just a handy thing to know! Of course there's no display to show how long you have left, but hey! It's still a really good machine, if you are suffering from unwanted noise.

This device has saved my sanity and my sleep
I have an extremely selfish and inconsiderate neighbour that blasts her TV very loudly, what feels like 24/7. Since I bought my first house nearly a year ago, it has been impossible to sleep, or to have a nice quiet evening, or even a quiet start to my day! I have tried so many things - ear plugs, ANC headphones, a cheaper white noise machine etc. Talking to her about it just made it worse. Enter the 'LectroFan ... I tried it out in the lounge first, and the moment I plugged it in, on literally the first white noise sound (which is actually brown noise), the sound of her TV disappeared completely! I had it on all night that night and I could not hear her TV at all. The brown noise is so soothing, it helped me fall asleep faster and helped me to stay asleep. Even my cats love it; they are super calm around it and like to sit really closely to it. I think it will be useful during fireworks season! I will literally have this on all the time now. Looking at my smart meter, it uses hardly any electricity, so it won't cost very much to run. It would be nice to be able to use it wirelessly, but that is the only downside to be honest. Compared with my cheap white noise machine, the volume control is amazing; you can have it really quiet or really loud with lots of levels in between. It will take a while I think to train my ears to stop listening out for the TV noise, as that's all they have heard for a year, but I feel like I can finally relax and I am no longer a prisoner in my own home. Worth every single penny.

Well made and works well.
I bought this a couple of years ago for the missus to help her sleep. It's not the cheapest but well made and works well. No fancy bells and whistle just a good simple white noise machine.

Lecto fan
First one over heated. Sent out replacement which stopped working after 5 months. Was a really good loud machine though for a light sleeper. Just strange how my two haven’t worked.

Simple machine provides excellent results
While I live on a busy road it wasn't actually the traffic that was giving me problems sleeping - it was the next door neighbour playing music of watching television at a volume just loud enough to be barely audible through the wall. That kind of thing drives me crazy because I'm kind of obsessive and can't help but listen for it. I had asked them to keep the noise down (when they were being particularly noisy - it didn't seem right to complain too much given the traffic outside is alot louder) and tried a myriad of things to try and allow my brain to relax including using earplugs and listening to the radio. It then occurred to me to look for a white noise machine; I have a fan in my en-suite bathroom that I would occasionally have turned on just to mask any ambient noise so surely there could be something that would produce a similar effect. A quick Amazon search turned up a number of results and after reading other customer reviews I thought I'd give this unit a try. I'm really very pleased with the purchase. The unit has a number of different sounds to choose from, some of which I really couldn't imagine falling asleep to but to each his own. I personally settled on a low rumbling (similar to my bathroom fan) which can be easily adjusted to really quite a loud volume if you so choose. You can leave it running all night or with a button press have it fade out and turn off after an hour or more (depending on how many times you push it). There's really very little else to it, and while £49.95 was more than I would have liked to pay the results I'm getting it's worth every penny. If I could change only one thing I think I wish I had purchased the unit in black so it's not quite to conspicuous on my bedside table.

Meravigliosa

Love it! I like how the sounds have some bass.
I haven't even used it for a full night of sleep yet, but I already love it! I turned it on and went through the sounds, and I really like that the sounds actually have some bass to them. I sleep in a somewhat noisy college dorm with thin doors and inconsiderate night owls who slam doors, so I need to use earplugs. But it gets a bit TOO quiet with earplugs. I like to hear the constant sound of a fan, or heating, or water pipes, or any constant sound that buildings make (and these sounds normally have some bass to them). Which is why I purchased this. I also like that it doesn't have any annoying lights that brighten up your bedroom. Another bonus: the sleep timer can be set for any number of hours, unlike in other machines where it's only 15, 30, or 60 minutes. My insomnia can be bad enough to the point that I take 3-4 hours after turning out the lights to fall asleep, so I definitely appreciate being able to set the machine for 5 hours or so. This was definitely designed thoughtfully. My only complaint would be that the cord could be longer, especially since my dorm doesn't have many sockets. But that's nothing an extension cable can't fix. I'll definitely be adding this product to my arsenal of supplies to combat insomnia! (Which includes earplugs, lavender oil, melatonin, diphenhydramine, and sleep sound apps – you can see how desperate I am to have a good night's sleep!) UPDATE: So I've been using this for a few days now. And it's great! Silence is obviously ideal, but if that's not an option, this machine works great to block out annoying noises. I've found it works best when you place it between yourself and the offending noise. It creates a sort of wall of sound, and it blocks out my dad's snoring at night as well as any outside noises like annoying car motors. It also works great when I'm just trying to absorb myself into a novel without distractions. The only thing i would like to see is a remote, and buttons to toggle back and forth between the noises, instead of having to cycle all the way through to get to a certain noise.

Great so far
How have I managed without this for so long? It might be a lifesaver, Im only on day two so far, but so far so good. I have extremely noisy neighbours and this little machine seem to block out an impressive amount of that noise. I like all the options, it spreads the noise around the room really well. My neighbours are below me so I put the machine close to the floor. I am really happy so far!
