My new favorite thing
Have you ever gotten a new kitchen gadget and within seconds of using it, you knew you were going to use it every day? That's how I felt about this. In my case, the first use was when I was preparing a curry that required finely diced onions, words that stress me out immediately. I took my onion and cut it into large chunks, then put as many as I could fit loosely into the chopper. After just a couple of pulls, I had nicely diced onions, and then after a few more they were definitely finely chopped. It all took about one minute, no tears, and super easy. Later in the recipe, I was meant to make a paste of garlic cloves, grated ginger, and sliced jalapenos in a mortar and pestle. Well, our mortar and pestle turned out to be WAY too small and I was getting really stressed out. After a few non-mortar and pestle attempts at making a paste, I grabbed the chopper back out of the sink and tossed my ingredients into it. While I didn't have a paste in the end, I was able to get it so finely chopped that it was close enough for me. I had been prepared to toss the recipe, but everyone loved it and so it stays in the rotation. The chopper actually saved the day in a pinch. I will 100% be using it every time I have anything to chop. I had been thinking I'd give it to my college-bound son, but it's mine now. I'll have to buy him his own.

Sharp blades, good chopper, but where are the cleaning instructions??
I wanted something manual that I could use to chop small amounts of veggies without pulling out the small food processor every time. I like that this is just 3 or 4 pieces to clean, although my food processor is pretty much the same number of pieces too. We plan to keep this in the camper so we don’t have to rely on power for our meal prep.I did a quick test using a gala apple, which we prepped according to the directions (cut in 2 halves, no core). This didn’t work well and eventually the blades got stuck on an apple piece after about a dozen pulls of the string. Then I cut it one more time so it was in 4 quarters. That worked like a charm! After about 13 pulls, the pieces were pretty small, although not perfectly uniform. The blade IS VERY sharp - my finger can attest to that! :) I was trying to carefully hand clean and should have use a dish brush. What I don’t understand is how to take apart the lid so it’s in two pieces (Lid with Pull Ring Mechanism and the Locking Lid Base). The pamphlet inside the box says to refer to the cleaning instructions, but where are they?? I guess I will contact KitchenAid directly because I honestly do not know how to separate the lid so that it can dry thoroughly after each cleaning.Would I buy this over a small food processor? Maybe, since I feel that I have a little more control over the size of the pieces. It’s the same amount of cleaning (not bad at all though), and both save time in the kitchen. I do think this is a decent value for the size of this chopper though. Materials feel high quality, pull string feels strong and sturdy, and the grip on the bottom of the base works as advertised.Overall I’m satisfied, but I will report back after I finish testing some other foods like nuts and soft fruits and veggies (tomato, mango, etc.)

Wow! This thing is amazing!
KitchenAid has done an amazing job making a manual food chopper that actually works and works with no effort at all. It’s super simple to use. Simply put the blade in the bowl, add the food you want to chop, seat the lid, and pull the ring. The ring glides beautifully and with no real effort, and in three pulls, I had a fully diced bell pepper. There were some larger pieces in the mix, but the same number I typically get with my electric food processor, but this is far easier to use and a breeze to clean (though a brush is a good idea to get between the layered blades if food is allowed to dry on them).Additionally, since the bowl is fully sealed (the blade sits on a small plastic bump in the bottom and does not lock into place), it can be used as a serving bowl in a pinch for things that can be chopped together like salsas. The only thing I wish is that a storage container was included for the blades. They can sit inside the bowl, of course, but this chopper is perfect to take on travel (camping, cabins, etc.) where it will make cooking much simpler and having better protection for the blade would be good so it isn’t shifting around. That said, considering this little powerhouse is only $24.99, I’m not complaining too much. I love this thing.

Great for small to medium sized jobs
This manual food chopper by KitchenAid has a capacity a little over 3 and 1/2 cups, but realistically it can chop about 3 cups. It works pretty well (not perfect) for roughly chopping onions and pieces of vegetables where completely even cuts aren't needed. The handle is easy to pull and the blades are sharp. It also worked well for rough chopping nuts with ease too. For those times when I don't want to pull my heavy food processor out of the cabinet, this gadget is a good alternative.

The Ultimate Tool for Making Hash Browns
I love making hash browns on weekend mornings and I have secured a variety of manual choppers over the years to try to speed up the job. None of them have left me satisfied, so when I got this chopper, I did not have high expectations.I was blown away.Adding 2 potatoes to this unit and 4-5 pulls of a string and I have perfect small, thin multi-shaped finely chopped potatoes that are absolutely perfect for making a nice mat of hash browns in the frying pan. I could not believe how effortlessly the chopper worked. There was almost no resistance when pulling on the string. Everybody standing in the kitchen was amazed at how well it worked. Everybody was very pleased at the texture of the hash browns. My only minor reservation is about washing the lid. I don't know how careful you need to be to avoid getting water into the string pulling unit, but the lid needs to be washed, not merely wiped off.I can see this chopper being awesome for making some fresh salsa too. Simply add onion, tomato, cilantro and pull the string.

Get Ready for the Lawn Chopper!
This manual food chopper is absolutely awesome. Have you ever had to start a manual pull lawn mower? Well, imagine that except it rotates the internal blades to chop your food. It's quite unique and at a great price and functions extremely well! The hardest part will be eventually attempting to sharpen the blades.
