Inexpensive solution to potentially buying an expensive dimmable LED replacement lamp.
Ive been wanting to put a dimmable bedside table lamp with an LED BULB in my bedroom. The headboard is pretty close to the back of the wall. The way this dimmer works is you plug your lamp into one end of the "extension cord" and then plug your lamp into it. This ends up adding about 2 1/2" of length from the plug tip to the end of it. If your plug goes straight into the back of the wall outlet, and you have something close up against it, it's going to be a problem. My solution was to buy a cube plug for the wall outlet. Now that 2 1/2" length comes out the side of the cube running parallel to the wall instead of extending out from the wall. The other end of the "extension cord" has the dimmer slide on it. A nice feature is that you can completely turn off the lamp from the dimmer by sliding it all the way to the end. You will hear and feel a positive "click" as it goes into the off position. I was afraid that I was going to have to turn the lamp off AND use the dimmer, but once installed, turn your lamp on leave it on. You have full control from the dimmer! If you're going to be using this for an LED bulb or a compact florescent, make sure you buy the model that has the C.L designation. There is another version that looks identical but is not designated by C.L, and it will not work properly with an LED or compact fluorescent bulb. They look identical! I'm using this with a GE 60 Watt LED bulb and it works pretty well. The range of light from dim to full is pretty decent, however I noticed that the specifications call for certain lightbulbs and the preferences is for Sylvania and Philips brand. I may pick up one of those to see if the range of light from low to high is improved. I figured GE would be the benchmark for a quality LED, but they are not identified as a preferred bulb for this unit. You may want to pick up a Sylvania or a Philips brand LED. And make sure the bulb itself is marked "Dimable". If you are using this on a bedroom you might want a "soft white" rather than "daylight" bulb as well. My first bulb was "Daylight" and just far too "hot white" for a bedroom. So far I'm very impressed with this. It was a very inexpensive solution to getting a dimmer in my bedside table lamp without having to replace my otherwise perfectly fine lamp and buy a new expensive dimable LED lamp.

Great Quality Dimmer
I purchased two of these in order to dim some tabletop candelabras. I replaced the 15W incandescent bulbs in these with 2W, 2700K LEDs. The LED bulbs are little too bright and need to be dimmed some. The dimmer is great quality - it has a very smooth slider, and can turn the lamp completely off if needed. Since these are LED's, the dimming is not like a normal incandescent bulb. First, when I plug the lamp into this, it dims the bulbs some (maybe 5-10%) right off the bat, even with the dimmer at full brightness. It's not a lot but definitely noticeable. For my use, that's OK since they still get plenty bright anyway. The dimmer will dim the bulbs to about 10%, then goes off when the slider is set to off - it has an indent at the off position. Almost all the brightness adjustment is at the last 90% of the slider setting. Again. I'm fine with this since these are LED bulbs. It does dim them to the level I like, so no problem. The slider is nice and padded on the bottom with rubber strips. While it's not heavy, it is solid, has a slight weighted feel, and sits on the table top nicely even with the thick cord. This has a nice sold feel overall, not cheap feeling. Will definitely purchase more of this model if/when needed.

Mostly works. At least it doesn't hum . . .
Works - mostly . . . When I first opened the package, plugged in a lamp with (absolutely sure) a dimmable 14W LED. Worked great, ran it up and down a few times, no flicker, full bright - read a book, dimmed the lamp, watched a little tv, thought 'this is great', slide the dimmers' slider all the way down, there is a slight catch, and to the off position, called it a night. Next day, slide all the way up and lamp flickers like mad - what the heck? Slide back to off, then up half way - steady light - good, slide up full - flicker, but not as bad. Hmm, leave it there and flicker slowly calms down, fiddle with dimmer - eventually light is steady. Instead of sliding to 'off', i just turn lamp all the way down, next day it comes up to full with only a slight flicker. After a minute it goes steady. Like maybe an internal component warmed up or a capacitor fully charged . . . Whatever. Basically, after reading a bunch of reviews where there were the fewest complaints about this Lutron - it still isn't quite right - but possibly better than most. LEDs have been around for years, you'd think someone could engineer a dimmer that always works with dimmable LED without fail.

I am using this outside (covered) to dim the lights around my hot tub. it is well enough sealed to provide reasonable outdoor use. since I have "torture" tested this unit over the winter and it is responding beautifully, I feel confident in saying it is very good quality.
