Teton 20F and 5F Degree Sleeping Bag; Lightweight, Warm Weather Mummy Sleeping Bags for Adults and Kids, Camping, Backpacking, Hiking

Just got my Trailhead 20+ from Amazon for a great price--I was excited when came in (as they were out of stock). So far I like this bag and from other reviews, I expect it will hold up. As other reviewers commented, there aren't a ton of choices in the synthetic, light and reasonable cost category. I like synthetics because I have kids and that means they'll use (or better said misuse) them at some point and better to know you're not ruining an insanely costly piece of equipment, not to mention the wet factor. This bag strikes the perfect balance of everything thing from cost, weight to features. I received the bag this week and immediately wanted to test it. Thankfully we had some mid-20 temps recently, so it made for a perfect testing ground. When I went to bed, it was in the upper-30s and by dawn in the mid-20s. The details on prepping for the evening: I put on a dry base layer (long sleeve top, long john pants, fresh wool socks and a stocking cap). I also slept on an inflatable pad. I was thinking about trying a liner, but I wanted to test the bag for it's rating and that's what I did. More details on this test: - For size comparison, I am 6 foot tall and weigh about 195. I wear a 42-L jacket. I'm not a huge guy, but not small either. This bag comfortably fits me. - The inner bag material isn't slick or slippery. I was actually concerned about this, but it made it easy to move around because the bag stays with your body as you turn. - The footbox has plenty of room, so your feet can move around without feeling cramped or having too much area to move around. - I hung the bag from the loops when I got it out of the box and slept in it the next night, there were no cold spots to notice. Store with the loops if you can (read the directions for any bag for storage). - Really liking the mummy hood drawstring. My old bag has a shoulder and hood drawstring. This simplifies the process and doesn't feel like you're going to hang yourself in the middle of the night adjusting. - The temperature rating does seem to be fairly accurate. I was not cold at 26-degrees (which is what it got to during my test), but I would say that if I were going to go too much more, I'd add a liner. Seems accurate. - Comes with a stuff sack. - Read the care directions if you are considering it, e.g. don't put in a washing machine. Here's the deal, you want to go down and expensive, go that way. Want a synthetic that is of reasonable price and that comes as advertised, this is the bag. I'm interested to find out how it holds up over time, but from everything that I can see to date, this bag is going to be a great investment. Item is as advertised. Happy trekking. Will update as necessary as I use on the trail. --- Update 10/2016 I had a minor issue with the bag. I contacted Teton Sports and they resolved the issue immediately. Another great reason to buy this bag. I still like this bag a LOT.

Did extensive comparison shopping over several nights on Amazon for a sleeping bag that is durable, warm, and lightweight at a good price point. The zippers glide open and close smoothly, was very warm when I got inside, and is lightweight and compact. This bag goes above and beyond by being super easy to get back into the outer bag after taking it out which I haven’t experienced with other bags in the past. Thank you lady with the video that showed this to be true!

I just used this bag for the first time on a camping trip in New Hampshire. Overall I'm pretty happy. I did some shopping at REI and just wasn't happy with what I'd have to pay for a decent sleeping bag so I decided to give this one a try. If I had to compare it to one of the bags I looked at at REI I'd say its similar to the Mountain Hardware Lamina. Size: This bag is plenty big/comfortable. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and had no problem. It packs down to a pretty small size using the included stuff sack--small enough to fit in the lower sleeping bag compartment of my Teton Sports Explorer 4000 backpack ( [...] ). Construction: on par with the rest of Teton Sports other gear. For those who don't own anything from this brand, Teton is all about good quality for a good price. It may not be the fanciest, or absolutely top of the line, but its definitely quality stuff. THE INSIDE MATERIAL OF THIS BAG IS VERY COMFORTABLE. I hate that slick sleeping bag material. Luckily, this bag has a softer more sheet like material on the inside. Temperature rating: WORD OF CAUTION...per Teton's website, their temperature rating is a survivability rating rather than a comfort rating ( [...] ). For a comfort rating they say you should add 20 degrees. So, this bag may be more like a 40 deg bag when compared to bags standardized to the EN 13537 rating system ( [...] ). Knowing this, I went ahead and purchased a Teton Sports bag liner ( [...] ) which they say should add 10 degrees (my goal was to have a 20-30 deg bag). On my first and only trip so far with this bag the lows were in the high 40's and I slept fine, I do tend to be a hot sleeper though. We'll have to see how it does in colder weather. Conclusion: Overall, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I also bought a storage bag for it ( [...] )--since sleeping bags should be stored uncompressed or hanging. Even with the liner and the cotton storage bag I still came out spending about 1/2 of what I would have at REI for a 20 deg bag. I'll update the review after I've had chance to use it more often/in colder weather. Hope you find the review helpful!

I love this sleeping bag! I run very cold and have never been comfortable camping. This weekend, I camped in pouring rain and a huge windstorm and was so cozy and warm the entire time. The fabric is so soft. It's a little large and took up a lot of space in my backpack, but worth it if you love camping and hate being cold.

This is more of an unboxing review, and also it is more of a 3.5 star review. Just got this from UPS, opened it up, and got it out of the stuff sack. I hope I am able to stuff it back in because it was a tight fit. I bought this for the purpose of backpacking. It will never see use other than that as I have a nice, large, roomy sleeping bag when space isn't as much of an issue. With that being said, this bag can pack down small and is light weight. They do this by not making the bag much larger than is needed to fit a human inside. I am about 6 foot tall, and weight about 235 pounds and built like a hockey player. I am pretty much a brick... Size 13+ shoes, wide hips and shoulders. I stated all of that to help describe the fitment. It fits like a human condom on me... Normally I sleep pretty spread out with my arms and legs going all over the place. I won't have the space to do it in this bag. It is just wide enough to have my feet apart about four to six inches. It is pretty snug at my shoulders, and enough room in the hip area to wiggle back and forth a bit. So, small fitting aside, the bag is warm. Damn warm. It was low 60's in my living room when I crawled into it, and it took maybe three minutes before I was toasty warm, almost to the point of sweating feet. The insulation they use seems like it will get the job done very well considering there really isn't much around compared to the larger lightweight bags on the market. Another selling point for me was the price. Not many bags are out in the market for under $60 with the build quality of this one. After seeing the fancy high dollar bags that go for $200+, the only thing they would have is more space inside the bag. Pretty sure I will be happy with this sleeping bag out in the field. I also have a Teton sports back pack, as well as my son's sleeping bag. They make a quality product and even offer a lifetime warranty. ******update***** So I took the bag out for a hunting/camping trip to the grasslands of central/eastern Washington state. The overnight temps got down pretty low, maybe high 30's as a guess on the higher side. Once I got shimmied down into the bag, I stayed warm. But when your feet are semi moist from being wet all day, and you are cold and trying to crawl into a tight fitting sleeping bag in a one man backpacking tent, it is a rough experience. If only the bag was just a pinch wider all the way down, it would be perfect. I understand with more bag = more weight and size. But it literally just needs to be maybe two inches wider all the way down to be a wayyy better bag. Once inside, you are kinda screwed if you are a rough sleeper. I roll around, toss and turn, and that is hard to do in a small fitting sleeping bag. I will keep it, and hand it down to my youngest son for when we start camping and I will try to find another bag for myself. I had to drop it from a 4 star (really 3.5) at unboxing to a solid 3. It is a great bag, with great materials and construction, just super small.

This is a very nice sleeping bag that is comfortable, lightweight, and very portable for backpacking. While it's not the thinnest or lightest, it is a great value and a very high quality product. I bought two of these - one for me, one for my wife - and we have used them in both car camping with my child and also back country backpacking. This bag works great and I am very happy with this purchase. Here are my thoughts: 1. The 20 degree rating is a survival rating. For comfort, add about 20 degrees - call it a 40 degree bag. If it's going to be warmer than that, you can leave the bag partially unzipped. If it's colder, you will need a base layer to help you preserve your body heat. 2. This bag works fine for me as far as size - I'm about six feet and average build. There's plenty of room for my feet (which stay good and warm by the way) as well as tucking in your head if I choose to. I normally leave my head out and just wear a cap if it gets too cold. 3. The bag is very durable. We have used our bags numerous times and there have been no problems with the zippers or the construction. 4. There's no need for a compression sack - this compresses pretty small as is. Again, we love these. It's not the lightest, the most insulated, or the biggest brand name, but it is very good and durable for the price. I highly recommend this to my fellow backpackers without hesitation.

I do quite a bit of camping in the brush. Often 2-3 times a month. I preferably sleep by a fire, directly outside in the elements, and under a tarp or under nothing at all. I use a cheap sleeping pad For comfort and bit of insulation from the ground. With nothing but moisture wicking long johns and wool socks, This bag kept me warm in 18 degrees with 4 inches of snow in the surrounding creek bottom. We woke up to 2+ more inches of snow on the ground. My feet never even a hint of cold weather exposure. They stayed comfortable all night. The micro fleece inside is very cozy and my favorite thing about the bag. I hate sleeping bag materials, So this was quiet a relief. The wind was steady and crept in through the mummy hole, I tightened it down as far as it would crimp up leaving about. 1-2 inch hole for breathing fresh air on occasion. I simply faced the hole away from the wind so I wouldn’t suffocate in the bag or suffer from wind blast through the hole. Excessive wind can just be blocked by a pillow. Aside from the mummy hole - no wind made its way inside. I’m 5’11” with a 31” waist, Medium shirt size - smaller build guy. This bag is as small as I would ever want to go. Almost no room inside once it’s zipped up and I have no more head room hardly at all. My camp buddy made fun of me cause I was sleeping like Dracula Stuffed in a tiny coffin. I like to sit up on my sleeping pad and hang out around the camp fire. This bag made it impossible to sit with my legs crossed, but it has a two way zipper - I just opened the zipper from the bottom of the bag and was able to sit Inside the feet portion with my legs crossed the way I wanted and had the rest of the bag to wrap around me. Before discovering this method - I was super disappointed with not being able to sit Up in my bag comfortably. Although it’s a bit tight - This bag is now my favorite winter bag. I’ve tested It in record lows for my region and it easily passed. It’s also pretty lightweight and compresses in a compression sack extremely well. Highly recommend budget sleeping sack!

Hands down the best bargain out there. I'm not sure how Teton does it but they consistently make quality, budget friendly gear. I've had this sleeping bag out in 40°F weather with no problem and felt like it could handle even lower temps. It's my go-to winter bag. Plus it's one of the most comfortable sleeping bags I've ever owned. The inside of this bag (with whatever material they use) feels better than any $300 sleeping bag I've used. This truly is an awesome sleeping bag.

For the price, I'm very pleased. I used this camping sleeping bag to tackle the West Coast Trail. It's fairly lightweight (1.4kg) but the quality is superb. It keeps you warm in temperatures as low as 5C. The internal material is soft but it's still synthetic, therefore light and water resistant. I kept the sleeping bag in it's case (which isn't a compression bag) then placed it inside a garbage bag to ensure that it wouldn't get wet while hiking. This worked brilliantly. I'd recommend as an everyday sleeping bag (very comfortable) that's also light and warm enough to take during multi-day hiking trips.

Was freezing in 12c weather; adding a fleece liner helped a little. But overall, not recommended for camping in cold weather.

Just had my first chance to use this in the field. camped out in my 3F UL Lanshan 2 ultralight tent in 6C (~42F) temps i the rain. Tent did its job in keeping me dry so I can't comment on the bags water resistance. For the bag it felt pretty thin (which it is a very light model rated to 20F) and it performed perfectly. I am 6'2 with a few extra pounds and fit OK for my width, and perfectly for my height up to the head area of the mummy bag. supported by a slim (<2") inflatable sleeping pad I was perfectly warm all night with it and entirely satisfied with my purchase. If it fits your physical requirements & budget this is a really great bag!

I used this sleeping bag in a trip this summer and I'm a little torn on rating it 4 stars or 3. I chose 4 because I think for the price it's definitely a good buy. Other sleeping bags can go up to 200$ for not much more comfort/heat. Still, I had some small problems with this bag. The first one is it's really tight. I'm not a "shaped" guy, in fact I'm rather slim and I had problems moving in it. I have had other "mommy" sleeping bags before where I didn't have this problem, but with this one I did. I think the problem comes from the fact that the interior is soft fabric, like cotton, so if you try to move around in it you'll have to work a fair bit. The second problem is the "head" part, because you have to make a compromise for your pillow. I have a small 30cmx10cm pillow and I couldn't fit the pillow in there, so the "head" part would not be tight around your head, so there was air coming in from the area between your neck and shoulders. And I think this problem was the worst for me because even at ~5-6C I would start the night hot but slowly over night air would come from these small open holes in the head area and I would end up being really cold, especially to the feet. And since the sleeping bag is a mommy, you can't like move your knees upwards and be in this small position (within your sleeping bag) because your knees just won't fit in the middle part. Still, I'm a 6 foot man, 160 pounds, I was kinda expecting a better sleeping bag. Although I definitely had moments where I was hot in there, I ended up being cold all nights and didn't sleep that well. Would not recommend if you're looking for a long term sleeping bag, but as a budget sleeping bag this is is your best bet. I think if you sleep on your back, if you're not 6 foot, if your pillow can fit inside the head and if you put some blankets or something inside for your feet, you can have good sleep in this sleeping bag!

I camped on Dartmoor at -3 and was very cold. This bag is more suited to about 0 degrees I would think.
