X-Block 65XB Rotary Cutting Tool, 6-1/2-Inch

I'm working on a quilt using this ruler. It's fun and easy to use. Lots of things to do with the blocks to make different patterns.

If you want to use this method with 2 1/2" strips, this is not the one, and I thought the description should have been clear that you have to cut odd size pieces. They make one of these that works with the pre-cut strip size, called "Basix", but they probably should have done a little research before picking that name, just saying! I haven't made anything with this yet, but it obviously will work and is well made.

After stitching up your blocks, you take this ruler, line it up with your seams and cut. Press down on the ruler quite a bit though or it will slip! I have made one quilt with this ruler and have one more in my thoughts, so for me it’s a good product.

The tool is a great concept. Loved that all the "trim" pieces can be utilized rather than wasted. The down side is in the necessity to use a "generous 1\4 seam" I could never quite find the correct seam width to match the dimensions of the tool.. If the manufacturer could adjust the markings to either a true 1\4" or 3\8" it would be much better. If you are OK with less than accurate results and can deal with some frustration this tool has enough "plus's" to make it worthwhile.

I have not used this smaller tool yet, but it will likely work as well as the larger 7-1/2 item. Tools are not animate - they are useful, but not loveable.

The only thing I wish I would have known that the rulers take certain size blocks.
