Works great, easy to install.
I recently built a new pole barn on my property and made it large enough so half is my wood shop and the other half is a garage. I wanted to make my lovely wife's life easier so I decided to have an opener put on the garage door. The local overhead door company came out and told me because I had "high lift" doors, I would need a "jack shaft" opener and it would cost me $1,500 at least. Discouraged by this, I thought my hopes of a garage door opener had been dashed. I decided to do a little research to see why these "jack shaft" openers were so expensive..... turns out they aren't Not sure what the guy was on about but I found many reviews pointing me to this opener and decided I would get it and try to install it myself. Couldn't have been easier. The actual opener only took 15 minutes to install. I had a couple more hours involved in running all the little wires for the control panel and motion sensor (I also had to run a new outlet as this opener does come with a plug on a 6' cord). It was super easy to program, super easy to install and works amazingly smoothly. It's also MUCH quieter than a chain opener. I even paired a second remote and a keypad on the outside of the door. Both done with just a few button presses. I love this thing and have never had an easier time installing anything.

Fantastic for limited space installation
This opener has been reliable and very quiet. The installation was simple and easy. My only problem was the set screws slipped on the garage door shaft a few times causing the door to not move with the opener. I had to drill a small hole in the shaft so the set screw would counter sink without just crushing the shaft. Since then the only problem has been my cat sneaking into the garage during the close cycle and making the door reverse direction. The door safety device is working properly, it is the cat that is malfunctioning. My remote doesn't seem to have the same range as the factory remote installed in my car. That may just be a low battery in the remote as I haven't tried to change it.

Excellent Product
We have an oversized two car garage door (18') and this opener works great on it. It was easy to install and to program. The only thing we didn't like about it was there was only one remote. Our Honda Accord homelink was easy to program. This is an excellent garage door opener. It is slower than our old one but it is much much quieter and very dependable. We had an expensive belt driven battery backup model that doesn't even compare. I recommend this door opener for anyone who is tired of buying the chain and belt driven over head crap.

No idea why I waited so long for a hassle free garage door opener!
I purchased a home with an old-school screw drive Genie garage door opener. It was loud, needed copious amounts of grease (dripped on garage floor, car, got on my clothes, disgusting!), and after several years just stopped working. Tried to fix it with Genie support, and they did their best, but the motor had failed. I had known about the Chamberlain/LiftMaster 8500 for the last few years, but was turned off by the price. Learned from a garage door serviceman that the 8500 is the only product/model he installs, so easy choice. Things I love the most:- NO MORE GREASE EVERYWHERE!- Super quiet. After the garage door unlocks and starts moving, the door is making most of the noise- WiFi features using MyQ. Can open/close remotely, and monitor door close/open status using the app, and enable family members to use. Genius!- Overhead light feature. I had a light already in my garage, but the light turns on/off due to motion sensor.- Easy pairing with my vehicle's built in garage door opener button using HomeLink. Saved $.

Only opener that would fit; easy install; works great
I have support beam in my garage right where a "normal" chain drive garage door opener would go. As such, this is the only door opener that fits in my garage. It was a fairly easy install; took me about 3 hours which included the time to neatly tack the wires to the walls. I really like the automatic lock that is set every time the door is closed. Opener is quieter than other openers. It easily opens my small garage door but due to the slow speed that starts and finishes (opening/closing) the door, it sounds like it is straining. It isn't straining - it's just the normal sound of an electric motor running slowing. After the door has opened a couple of inches, the motor speeds up and sounds "normal". Same thing happens on closing. One surprise I had was that I discovered my HomeLink in my 2010 Honda doesn't work with the newer frequency and codes that are used by this garage door. I could order a special repeater so that the opener could receive the signal from my car but it's not worth it. I'm just using the remote control that came with the opener.I plan on installing a second one of these openers on my second garage door eventually.

Make sure the garage door opener panel is updated.
The opener is easy to install and works well. I have purchased four and they all needed updated control panels from Liftmaster. Liftmaster sent them free to me and I don't have the issue of the door opening when I'm gone now.

Infinitely better than the standard overhead garage door motor it replaced.
I just love these jack shaft openers. So quiet and out of the way. It was necessary to use this with my high lift garage door, but I kind of wish I had purchased the newer version of this as it eliminates the need for the cable tension monitor, which is unsightly and requires more wiring. But, still, very pleased with this unit.
