Excellent if your know it's limits.
My review is based on the fact that I bought this as a dog deterrent, not self defense : I'm a dog walker and have become fed up with rude off leash dogs, and even worse, off leash dog owners. I walk dogs 8-10 hours a day 6 days a week and am rushed at by "friendly" and aggressive dogs alike at least once a day. This little pen has been a mental health saver for sure, noise based options weren't cutting it and mace refills were expensive plus friendly fire is real with aerosolized options. This little pen has been great, I keep it at the ready in troublesome areas and I have had to use it a few dozen times now with zero failure. I used it twice to tase and run off a dog that was absolutely being aggressive, I was quite worried it wouldn't be strong enough. Not only that, but every other time I have deployed it I don't even need to make contact with the dogs. They hear the noise and I assume detect/smell/something electricity wise and they stop and turn back pretty instantly. I have had them turn back around to try again but as soon as I pop the taser they are back at a safe distance. Haven't had a chance to use it on an owner yet, I have zapped myself a few times and I doubt it would do much to deter an actually angry or aggressive human, but the sound and spark seems to do most of the work for me with the dogs which is what I needed. I'll definitely be buying a few more to keep on hand in case this one goes messing.

👍👍👍👍👍 a sneaky defense pen
Compact very handy for men or women use. Put that pen in front pocket of shorts, pants ect… Also use it in shirt pocket as a fake pen. Too bad it doesn’t have a clip on the pen itself. The led light is very handy to have. Can’t wait to use it on a perp that is trying to over take you by surprise. Also if you have pepper or bear spray on you that you can use that second line of defense to give you a few seconds to flee the attack. Money well spent

It works!
I shocked myself getting it out of the box so I know it works! A painful deterrent but I don't know that it would stop someone who was determined. Good size, the battery indicator is important.

Streetwise Pain - Pen Taser - Recommended for Girls and Women
Pen Tasers are **not as strong** as Police Stun Guns. Pen Tasers will **not** cause a person to fall to the ground. Pen Tasers will **briefly shock** a person trying to harm you. That **might** help you Escape, Run, and Scream 911. Pen Tasers conveniently : * Clip onto Shorts, Pants, and Shirts. * Fit inside Pockets. * Fit inside Tiny Purses. Purchased 10 of the Streetwise Pain Pen Tasers. Gave all 10 Pen Tasers to women ages 18 to 22. 10 young women were all grateful. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE : * See something Say something. * let Family and Friends know Where you are at All Times. * Trust your Instincts about Strangers and Acquaintances. * do Not go on Solo walks and runs. * do Not hike in Woods and Forests. * Remember that Danger could be Lurking behind Bushes and Trees. * be Aware of your Surroundings. * stay Safe.

Safety
I recently picked up the Streetwise Pain Pen, and I have to say—it exceeded my expectations. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary pen, which is exactly the point. The discreet design makes it perfect for carrying in a purse, pocket, or clipped to a shirt without drawing any attention. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to handle. What really impressed me was the power behind the shock. I haven’t had to use it in a real situation (thankfully), but testing it on a non-living surface revealed just how intense the crackle is. The sound alone is enough to make anyone back off—it’s loud and intimidating. I can see it being a strong deterrent even before contact is made. The built-in LED battery indicator lights are a nice touch. They let you know exactly how much charge is left, and it charges easily via USB C —no batteries needed. It’s ready when you are. Pros: • Ultra-discreet design • Surprisingly powerful jolt • Loud, intimidating sound • Rechargeable with clear battery indicators • Feels solid and durable *. Has built in flashlights Cons: • Might be too small for large hands Bottom Line: The Streetwise Pain Pen is a fantastic self-defense tool for those who value subtlety and effectiveness. Whether you’re walking to your car at night or just want some peace of mind, this is a smart and stylish way to protect yourself.

Great cocealable defensive weapon!
This is a great self defense device. It is small, easily concealed, and appears innocuous until you activate it. Like the description says, most attackers only need to hear and see it in action, and they'll run away. I have it as one of my four levels of self protection that I have on me at all times. I carry pepper spray, this pain pen, a knife, and a nine millimeter on me. I refuse to be a victim, or let anyone around me be one. Although I have never had to use it intentionally, I have accidentally caused it to zap myself. Long story short, it zapped me for about a quarter of a second and it hurt like a MFer! It even left a mark for several days. I can only imagine the damage it would inflict on an attacker. My plan is to zap anyone who accosts me right in their eye sockets for as long as I can after I pepper spraythem, and then when they are incapacitated I will jam it down their throat and zap them for as long as I can then, as well. FAFO! Great defensive weapon, inexpensive and very effective. Please get one for anyone you care about in your life.

Very confident
This pen is very easy to carry, to camouflage as a pen, I carry it everyday and people think is a regular pen, fortunately I haven't had used yet against anybody, but I'm CONFIDENT that is going to protect me when I'll need it.

i wouldn't entrust ky safty and peace of mind to this device
I've had this product for nearly 2 weeks carrying with me every night on my dog walks. Turned on the product and verified that it was charged four or five times, bit second press the button to hear the whipping sound and turned off and I will be off.on my walk. Last nigh while on our walk, we were closely followed by 2 coyotes for 1½ miles aorund Rose Bowl Loop. A very scarry situation that seened contolled as I brought out my shock pen, powered it on, pointed towards one coyote that cane as close to 10 feet and I pressed button. It started the coyote and my dog, but most importantly it backed the coyote a good 40 feet. I found myself having to repeat 3 more times. It was on thenlast try (fourth) that the tip of the pen behan to make a odd noise and began to smoke. For a second a panicked thinking it had zapped through a garment of miine, but it wasnt the case as I wasn't wearing any sweater or kong sleeve. A fifth oress of the button became necessary and suddenly the top of oen was catching on fire. For a spot second I didn't know what to do as I feared that it may explode on my hand and injure me so dropping it was my first instinct which I second guessed as one coyote backed off again but the other inched closer. So I went with tossing towards the coyote who stepped back a few feet. I quickly wrapped the leash around my hand and grabbed it tight while holding on to strobbing flashlight, and proceeded to hobble nack while swinging my cane around with ny free hand. That backed then off. Fortunately a caravan of cars drive down past us, saw the situation and drove us to safety. Product failed. It looks solidly made, I eont knownif it was a flaw isolated to this particular device or if its just a bad priduct. Which ever, at rhis ooint I'm returning and getting something different. Im not gonna risk depending on a pen and have it fail on me again.
