Practical, Uplifting, and Easy-to-Use: A Must-Have Self-Help Guide
Dr. Julie Smith’s Open With is a masterclass in accessible, practical self-help. This book stands out because of its unique format, which allows readers to dip in and out, finding exactly the guidance they need, exactly when they need it. What I loved most about this book is how effortlessly it combines simplicity with depth. Whether you’re facing a specific life event or just need a moment of clarity, Dr. Julie’s words provide a steady hand. The advice is easy to follow, yet profound enough to leave a lasting impact. Another highlight is its focus on helping readers navigate difficult conversations and situations. Dr. Julie doesn’t just offer general advice—she equips you with the right words and tools to handle real-life challenges, making it easier to process emotions and focus your mind. Open With isn’t just a book you read cover to cover; it’s a guide you keep close, returning to time and again for its insights and encouragement. Whether you’re dealing with personal struggles or simply seeking ways to enhance your mental well-being, this book is an invaluable resource. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compassionate, practical companion on their journey of self-discovery and growth.

Great purchase
Bought for a friend who is going through a hard time. Seems easy to read and they really appreciated it. I liked the layout where you can open to a chapter you need, rather than reading the whole book in one go.

An amazing life tool for everyone
I pre ordered this book after reading dr Julie’s previous book. As someone who struggles being the “glue” of the family, being the middle child, aging parents, adult children of my own, busy Job, generally juggling a lot of balls, I honestly didn’t know what chapter to read first. I feel like I’ve gained a new best friend with this book. I immediately have the urge to buy copies for my children and many of my friends. Some really down to earth, practical, invaluable life advice for when life throws those curve balls. Definitely going to be my go to, when I feel I need help to navigate through life. Thankyou dr Julie, for the encouragement to tackle some of the situations life throws at you in a proactive way, whilst also making me realise that these life situations happen to everyone.

A beautiful book full of support and encouragement
I’ve had the book for two days and have loved reading it, the perfect book for coming into a new year but it’s going to help me forever! Loved Dr Julie’s first book and love this one just as much! What she’s done with both books is give the world some hope and security like she’s only just a moment away when the bad or worrying times hit. I’ve woken up today with such compassion and strength for myself knowing I have so many chapters supporting me. Thank you 🙏🏻 Dr Julie, you are so important to the world and everyone is going to love this book just as much ❤️

A good read for the start of the year.
Dr. Judy Smith’s new book really hit home for me. I found the sections on self-sabotage and toxic behavior particularly helpful. I have to admit, reading about toxic traits made me realize that, at times, I’ve been guilty of some myself, especially when it came to pushing someone away. That was tough to accept, But recognizing that truth is part of what makes this book so impactful. What I like most about it is that it does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s not trying to be some deep, heavy psychological textbook, it’s about helping you spot the issues you’re dealing with and giving you tools to work on them. The tools aren’t generic, either. Dr. Smith acknowledges that we’re all different, like snowflakes, and what works for one person might not work for another. That makes her advice feel personal and practical. This book came into my life at a time when I’ve been questioning a lot of decisions I’ve made, actions I’ve taken, and even the actions of others. It doesn’t promise to fix everything, but it gives you the space and encouragement to start working through things. It also forces you to face some uncomfortable truths. Growth doesn’t happen without discomfort, and while there are still things I need to deal with in my own life, this book has been a nice push in the right direction. @tiroas on the inter

Brilliant book. Ignore the review by Miss Trunchball
I loved Dr Julie’s previous book and “Open When” does not disappoint as a follow up. It’s truly brilliant. I started on the chapter “when you want to win the argument” and it was so relevant and I found it truly helpful and inspiring. I’m going to try out the techniques and suggestions. I feel there are many chapters in this book that will prove invaluable to me and I can’t wait to explore more. What Julie does is make therapy accessible for everyone. Trust me, I’ve had many rounds of counselling and it costs a fortune. I wish I had just bought this book instead because I would have gained the same insights quicker and ever so much cheaper. Ps. Ignore the review by Miss Trunchball. Clearly a complete troll!

Beautifully written!
Dr Julie writes beautifully with a real psychological insight into what troubles our minds and the "try this" tasks are wonderful tools! You can use it as an "Open when..." Or just read it (I have) I love reading her book in her voice (I follow on Instagram and her little insights on there can be so uplifting and motivating and sometimes eye opening) I'm sure I'll keep nipping to this like her first book to read/hear a simple insightful friendly verse. My 12 year old also is a fan!

Worth it
I don’t think I’ve ever needed a book more. The fact that you don’t need to read the book cover to cover and can just flip to the section you need is so practical. Not only does it have a letter from doctor Julie but it also has tips and tricks you can use when you’re in the situation. Would definitely recommend this book for yourself or for a loved that maybe you don’t see much or they’re struggling with something and you’re not sure what to say. Thanks Dr Julie
