what is the screen size? is it compatible with zones?

The screen is just about 5 inches diagonally and seems to be between a 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio.   The thermostat can NOT control two or three separate zones.  It's not a replacement for the fancy/smart equipment going to a single central HVAC control head with sensors for airflow and temperature, managing baffles and airflow throughout a commercial building.  This is a thermostat intended for home use and not like some of the commercial HVAC control units that Johnson sells.  That having been said, I have two separate thermostats in my home, one upstairs and one downstairs.  Each thermostat controls one zone but the App I have can manage both thermostats individually.

Question 2

Does this thermostat rely on "the cloud" for app communication? Can the app access the thermostat directly thru wifi without internet is my question.

I am sad to report that Johnson Controls just sent an e-mail out that effectively kills the remote access for this amazing thermostat.  IT will still work as a standalone thermostat.  It does not note if the weather functions will no longer work.

As a user of the GLAS Smart Thermostat and mobile app services by Johnson Controls, you are being notified of the sunset of the GLAS cloud services that enable remote device functionality for GLAS thermostats, effective March 31, 2023. This means that your GLAS remote device control will cease to function after the effective date March 31, 2023. Johnson Controls will continue to provide technical support for your physical GLAS Smart Thermostat.

As a result of the cloud service discontinuation, after March 31, 2023, your “GLAS by JCI” mobile app will no longer function on either the IOS or Android platforms. This means that you will no longer be able to remotely connect to or control your GLAS Smart thermostat using the mobile app, or through voice assistants Amazon Alexa, or Google home devices. Your GLAS Smart thermostat, however, will continue to function as a standalone unit, and control of the device will still be possible through the physical display (i.e., change setpoint, schedules etc.).  Johnson Controls previously announced the discontinuation of support for the “GLAS by JCI” mobile app effective January 2022, therefore compatibility of the mobile app with IOS or Android releases following that date is not guaranteed.

Johnson Controls will continue to honor the 2-year Limited Warranty from the date the device was purchased and continue to provide replacement units until existing GLAS Smart Thermostat stock is depleted. If GLAS Smart Thermostat stock is depleted, and the same device can’t be provided as a warranty replacement, an alternative Johnson Controls smart thermostat product will be offered. Does this work with Apple devices

I enjoyed not having to pay $9.99 a month for a subscription to use the Apple iPhone App.  ...now...

Anyone have a clue why the sudden and drastic price reduction?

Yeah I got It when Cortana was part of the software and it worked great! Then they took cortana away and things went south. Everyday I think more and more that this thermostat is now just a glorified fancy looking thermostat that just controls the temperature in the house.  The learning away sensors don’t put the thermostat in Away mode anymore when I leave the house so I do it myself. What’s the point having this thing. My opinion buy a different thermostat if you want to fully integrate into your smart home. The Glas app sucks too!  At least with Nest or Ecobee you know they’re not going to make their thermostats dumber.
