Achtung mit dem Titel!
Achtung: das Buch ist bis in den Zeilenumbruch identisch mit dem Buch The Shortest History of Economics desselben Autors. Es ist sehr gelungen, aber eine unwissentliche Doppelbestellung ist schon ärgerlich.

Great Book
Outstanding book that goes back to first economic principals and illustrates them with concrete examples from history, sports, and societal status. But even those steeped in the Sahm Recession Indicator and interest rate arbitrage will learn something. It is not technical at all, and am I going to give it to my teens to read.

History Explained by Economics
Andrew Leigh’s “How Economics Explains the World” is a slim volume. It covers the reach of humanity from the emergence of humans until the present day. Its uniqueness is that the breadth of this history is told from an economic perspective. The book is designed for the general reader with an interest in economics. Some readers may be troubled by such an approach. However, I’m inclined to travel along with Leigh. Historical decisions and outcomes owe much to economics. Decisions are made with such concepts as scarcity, needs and prices in mind. This is not to say that markets, for example, always produce the best outcome. Even the most competitive of markets can fail. In the modern world, think of climate change. In this instance, the externality of carbon pollution is damaging the planet. Nonetheless, markets can offer a solution if guided by governments. Yes, carbon taxes and carbon prices do work and have the potential to create a better and cleaner world. “How Economics Explains the World” is a race through the history of this world. Readers will find the book entertaining and a delight to read. Recommended.
