Cryptocoryne spiralis is a great looking background plant. Its long stems with green leaves makes it a great contrast for bushier plants. It is easy to propagate: it will send out runners and new plants will form. It prefers low to medium lighting, pH in the 6-8 range. Root feeding with APG All-in-One Plant Fertilizer Tab with Super Iron Plus by Aquarium Plants Galore is highly recommended. Spiralis is much less likely to suffer "crypt melt" than most crypts. Crypt melt is simply a natural reaction to changing environmental conditions: much like how many trees will lose their leaves in the fall. The antidote is the same: simply be patient and in a few weeks new leaves will form. The key to recovery is a strong root system, which is what you get when you purchase from Aquarium Plants Galore.
