I am enjoying these books as lot. I'm doing some exercises and already learning many interest things about changes in pronouciation that I didn't know. They'll teach me a lot.

I love this book because it has not only explanations and audio CDs, but also a lot of exercises for extra practice(e.g. grouping together words with the same vowel sound or finding the odd one out).

I was very disappointed when I found out that the exercises were showing accents from different countries like Canada. I thought that I would have the British accent

In breve: questo volume è uno degli strumenti per colmare il gap che separa il livello C1 dal C2.Vengono introdotti argomenti di fonetica e pronuncia mai trattati a scuola e difficilmente affrontati anche in corsi di inglese avanzato: main e seconday stress, prominence, stress shift, forma debole e forte delle function words, elisione di sillabe non accentate.Esercitandovi sulle varie unità potrete parlare in modo più chiaro, fluente ed intelligibile, evitando gli errori ricorrenti anche negli studenti avanzati, quali accentare le parole in modo errato o pronunciare sillabe "mute".Tuttavia, sarebbe sbagliato vedere "English pronunciation in use" come una bacchetta magica per il proprio inglese. Per introiettare e fissare i concetti delineati, risulta infatti cruciale un esercizio costante della lingua, ad esempio ascoltando canali di news come la CNN. Avanzando nello studio, sarà di grande soddisfazione ritrovare nei dialoghi reali le regole e gli schemi di pronuncia esposti nel libro, così come accorgersi delle inesattezze commese dai non-madrelingua.Penso che l'idea giusta sia quella di una ciliegina sulla torta per parlanti dal livello già avanzato. Alcune unità sono tuttavia un po' ridondanti per chi utilizza quotidianamente l'inglese, esponendo regole naturalmente applicate nel parlato, ma nel complesso i contenuti sono estremamente utili.Se quindi siete degli over-achiever tesi al miglioramento continuo, questo volume è decisamente per voi. Se al contrario vi serve solo un inglese tecnico-professionale per scrivere mail e redigere contratti, potete farne a meno.

純ドメスティックで英語学習中。普段は辞書と格闘しながら洋書を読んでますが、発音も向上させたいので、たまにこうした教材にも取り組んでます。今まで、American Accent Training (Ann Cook）とか、Fluent English（Living Language)なども購入した事がありますが、それら米国英語とは異なり、この本は、基本はBritish English。ですが他の方も記載されていたように、各国の話者（アメリカ、カナダ、オーストラリア、ジャマイカ、ポーランド、日本など）の音声も豊富です。また、単語のアクセント（著者はprominenceと言ってます）が、文中で変化するのは新たな知識で、目から鱗でした。（例：understand・・・通常のアクセントは、undersTANd 。しかし、 I UNderstand EVerything.というようにアクセントが変化する、など。）　なお、本のバージョンが変わったみたいで、数年前に購入した方とは違ってCD等のメディアは付随しておらず。本に記載のCambridgeのサイトにアクセスし、そこでmp3の音声データをダウンロードする仕組みでした。私はスマホにダウンロードして学習しています。

Pas toujours homogène dans le présentation des chapitres qui semblent un peu désordonnés, mais au final permet de une nette amélioration de son vocabulaire, de la compréhention, de l'amélioration de l'écoute quand le flux verbal devient un obstacle. Par exemple, la compréhention de BBC news en live.Un bon investissement si l'on veut passer une étape supplémentaire dans la compréhension à l'oral, mais aussi à l'expression parlée.
