Can't Go Wrong
I ate these and Hormel's side by side and I think nmy opinion matches that of another review I recall reading a while back. You can't go wrong with either brand. Hormel's sauce is very watery. La Preferida sauce has more viscosity. Yes it has chunks of fat, but a lot of that stays in the can when you slide them out, so it's up to you if you want to add it or not. LP is slightly milder. Hormel has a stronger chili flavour. Hormel's texture is slightly firmer. I'm not sure, but I think LP has slightly more filling. LP tamales are generally not as misshapen as Hormel. LP is less expensive. As a footnote, I saw a few reviews complaining about needing to take off the wrappers, which is true of any canned tamale. Heat them up first and the wrappers slide right off. You can use your fingernails or fork to do it. No problemo!
