Too Much Roller Derby
Prior to reading Going in Circles, I had only read one of Pamela Ribbon's other books, which I loved. Needless to say, I was excited about starting Going in Circles, but it didn't wow me like You Take it From Here did. The story and the characters were mildly entertaining and the plot was not predictable, which is always great. But, overall I felt like there were too many ancillary characters with their own side stories that detracted from the main story. And all the detailed scenes and descriptions about roller derby were completely lost on me. I know very little about roller derby and really have no interest in the sport so maybe I was not the target market for this book. For me, this book was just okay. If you understand roller derby then it might be more entertaining.Having now read two of her books, I will definitely check out some of her other titles. While this book wasn't really up my alley, her writing is insightful and fun and I can't wait to check out what else she has done.

An Enjoyable Read
I was just recommending this book to a co-worker when I thought I might as well recommend it to others as well! I've been a fan of Pamela's since she wrote for TelevisionWithoutPity (Gilmore Girls!) and I continue to be a fan of hers to this day. As a girl who has recently gone through some heartbreak myself, I could really relate to the need to make A Plan to get out of bed and do the things you need to do. I'm not a derby girl myself but enjoyed how the main character threw herself into something unfamiliar and was then able to piece together her life. I enjoy Pamela's conversational writing style and would buy and read any book she writes! Highly recommended.

Good book, decent plot development
The book was good, I'm a derby girl so I was eager for the derby stuff to start. It took longer than I'd hoped to get to that part but when it did, it really captured the angst and physical/mental/social gymnastics that we go through with ourselves and our friends and family to justify our participation in a sport we love.

Disappointing
I wanted to like this book, but found it disappointingly disjointed and unengaging. There were some flashes of nice writing, and Ribon's style makes the book a quick and easy read, but the characters didn't grab me. Charlotte, the main character, was a cipher: the descriptions of her ex-husband made him sound like such a drip, so her inability to let go of him, particularly over such a long period of time, was both mystifying and frustrating. Francesca was one of those characters that seems saucy and cool in the abstract, but mostly she was immature and annoying and difficulty to care much about. The roller derby stuff was cool, though.

Great book
Great book. Good details on derby, well written, hits right in the feels. Has a good balance of real life to derby as well as showing the progression and growth of the protagonist without having to overtly state it. Loved it.

Entertaining and engaging
I've been reading Pamela Ribon's writing online for years, but this is the first of her novels that I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's -- refreshingly -- non-romantic chicklit. The main character does fall in love, though: with roller derby. Pamie is a derby girl, obviously -- the roller derby scenes feel very true (I say that as a derby girl myself). The characters are engaging, especially Francesca (the girl who draws the main character into derby), and the story kept me going.

I just started roller derby so I may be a little biased about the content. It's more a humorous narrative about a woman working through her feelings about her marriage falling apart.

For the roller derby in your life
I bought this as a Christmas present for my best friend when she was part of a roller derby team. She LOVED it so much she finished it within the week. She said it inspired her so much, and she let her sister read it and she loved it as well! Since I did not read this book, but my friends LOVED it SOO MUCH, I give this book 5 stars!
