I was searching my previous orders and saw this and thought it deserved a review. I still have this. It works perfectly! I purchased it in 2016!! I use it quite a bit each year especially in the fall when seeding the yard. I love the feature of the removable end that attaches to the hose. I’m easily able to click it in when using it and I’m able to switch to a regular hose nozzle easily; although it has to be the same brand to do that. Or you can just remove it completely like normal.

Like many have said it is a great sprinkler. (One word of advice at the end.) Bought it summer of ‘15. I don’t always need to use a sprinkler but when I do I pass up all the Mickey Mouse ones and head straight for this one - Always! (no offense MM). Still works perfectly. No electronics. No batteries. Everything manual. Nothing to rust. VERY easy to set and modify if necessary. Nice even rectangle so no need to water some areas 4 times to get other areas once. Covers an amazing area. One caution. I by no means treat mine with kid gloves but I don’t abuse it either. It is plastic. Plastic has it pluses and it has drawbacks. Common sense should tell you that it does break if treated roughly. If you have kids that ride their bikes over the sprinkler, and hubby throws it on the cement patio every week when he mows the lawn, and the neighbor kid uses it in the street as a football, then, yes, my advice would be to stick to a very simple metal one - like the old owl-eye. Most of you moms and wives know exactly what I mean.

This is an outstanding product. It is very well constructed, and thoroughly engineered in terms of it's design and performance. In addition to having an extremely large coverage capacity, the variability of both the coverage length and coverage width is so broad, it should accommodate almost any yard configuration. On the downside, it is very expensive for a lawn sprinkler. But in this case, it is certainly a product that is well worth the extra expense. But you do get what you pay for. So if you want to treat yourself to an exceptional product, pay a little more for this sprinkler. Because you get a lot in return. Highly recommended.

2013 Update: This sprinkler was purchased in 2011. I am using it for the third season. How has this unit stood up? Not as hoped. It has now begun to not rotate as designed. Sometimes it sticks in one position or the other and sprays all the water in one spot. I've tried to get it working properly which sometimes it does cooperate, but sometimes not. It is unreliable. I attribute it to the plastic construction since I have another rotating sprinkler made by another mfg which is completely metal and it has worked flawlessly for years. Another problem that has surfaced is the quick disconnect. Sometimes when connecting the hose to the sprinkler, the connection does not allow water to pass through the connector to the sprinkler. There is a self-sealing valve in the connecter that prevents water from gushing out the end of hose if sprinkler is not plugged in. This valve is supposed to open when plugging to the sprinkler. Many times it does not open and no water gets to sprinkler. You have to keep fiddling with the contraption until it decides to cooperate. Again, probably the plastic construction. The Gardena is NOT worth the money because the German engineering acts more Chinese. I will use it the remainder of this summer, then relegate it to the pile of products that made promises they could not keep after the warranty ran out. Original Review (2011) The Gardena 1975 was purchased because of its reputation, good reviews and large square foot spec. I was tired of moving sprinklers and this one held out the promise to cover my entire front lawn from a single position. I measured the lawn to make sure it was within the 3800 sq. ft. Like most products nowadays, the Gardena is not the ultimate in design, quality, or performance and shows signs of using cheaper materials to keep down the price. The product has good and bad points. The good: Seems well made from a precision stand point. It can be adjusted in four directions; forward, back, left, and right. There are four levers that easily accomplish these adjustments. It has a wire mesh filter to keep any trash in the hose out of the unit. The quick connect is a great feature and doesn't leak. The unit reverses the sprinkle cycle quickly with minimum linger time when it reaches the limits of the forward and back direction. I do wish engineers would discover a way for these types of sprinklers to lay down a perfect rectangular pattern. Instead, they round the corners as they complete the forward/back cycle. That always leave four spots that don't get the water. The bad: Made from plastic including the quick connect, thus Gardena guarantees the product for only 2 years. It does not appear to be flimsy toy plastic, so maybe it is more like industrial plastic. The sun probably won't do its damage in two years, but will surely shorten its life compared to an all metal sprinkler. Because this unit is plastic, it is very light. That means it doesn't always want to hold the position in which it is placed when working at the limits of a garden hose. With a hose of sufficient length to have some slack, this isn't a problem. The biggest disappointment is the coverage. If you read the specs closely, they say UP TO 3800 square feet coverage. The UP TO figure is a deceptive way of making a claim for a product which you are likely NOT to achieve. If manufactures wanted to be truthful, they would give the consumer an "average" figure which would be more realistic. I expect if your local fire department hooked this sprinkler up to their pumper truck, you might get 3800 sq. ft.; otherwise, be realistic (think 2500 or less s/f) when making this purchase. Water pressure and hose diameter all contribute to the coverage being less. In my case, with average residential water pressure, I get less that half the coverage they advertise and am still moving a sprinkler around to cover entire yard. I do suggest using a 3/4" diameter hose with this unit to improve coverage. The larger diameter allows more water flow, thus larger coverage. Do I recommend this unit? I'm on the fence. It was overly expensive, yet did not deliver what I expected. I don't have the satisfying feeling that I got my money's worth. For less money I have a similar sprinkler from another mfg. made entirely of metal and wets almost as large an area. My guess is, it will outlast the Gardena even without German engineering.

Simply put, this is a Great sprinkler. I have 3 models from this same company for various applications, but specifically, I have 3 of these. You can easily adjust the side angle, i.e. how wide the spray is on each side independently. You can also easily adjust how far front to back the water will go (again, front and back adjustments are independent of each other). When set for the widest section, it will cover Alot of ground area. I set these up before sunrise and let them run just over an hour at each position of my yard and after that, I know my entire yard has had a very good, thorough soaking, down to the deepest rots. Just a note: Any sprinkler of this kind, if used in the bright noonday sun, you will lose upwards of half of your water to evaporation. Highly recommend. Some of mine, I have used heavily for over 4 years, never had a problem.

I bought this sprinkler when I was planning on overseeding after a very hot and dry summer here. I bought this for the ease of adjusting to fit the odd shaped sections of my yard. It worked great. I was able to water eveywhere, set-up took much less time than my old oscillating sprinkler, and less water was wasted. The only thing I will say is to keep an eye on it or bring it in the garage when not in use. After 3 weeks of flawless operation (including 2 weeks I was on vacation), someone stole it out of my yard. Now I am out the $60 I paid. I didn't know anything about these expensive (at least to me) sprinklers before I did my research, but apparently there are those out there that know enough to see it in a person's back yard, jump their fence and steal it. Just a heads-up.

Finally, a truly great lawn sprinkler ! I didn't think it was possible. From the first moments out of the box, this item has been a breeze. For starters, how many times have you dropped a sprinkler while trying to screw it onto the hose??? Not with this one. Just unscrew the handy 'quick attach' piece that comes with the sprinkler and screw it onto your hose. Then in less than 5 seconds, you simply pull back the collar and snap the sprinkler onto your hose. Easy-peasy ! Next feature I love is how easy it is to figure the settings. Before, it was always hit or miss, try and fail and several minutes lost in attempting to direct the water this way or that because there were no clear markings or they were meaningless to anyone other than the designer of that particular brand. With the Gardena Aquazoom, a child could easily figure the settings. Brilliant. Watering my lawn and flower beds with all their odd shapes, sizes and requirements is now a snap. Attaching and placing the sprinkler where I want it to be, turning on the water and adjusting the pattern takes less than 3 minutes. LOVE GARDENA !

The product description and packaging clearly state "WATERS AN AREA UP TO 3900 SQ. FT. at pi2 (pi squared)." However I cannot get it to cover an area larger than 20 ft by 40 feet -- which is 800 sq. ft.. That is 1/5th the size of the claimed coverage area of 3,900 sq. ft! The sprinkler is connected to a top-of-the-line 100 foot 3/4-inch contractor's hose costing $65 here on Amazon. I checked the screened washer and it is clean. As far as water pressure -- our home is on a city water line located less than 1/4 mile from the water tower. We have exceptionally strong flow. I do not own a guage to measure whether our water pressure is at level pi2 (pi squared) as quoted on the package label, but as a layman, I can report the water pressure is usually very strong in our home (I can run a dishwasher, washing machine, and take a shower at the same time with just a slight noticeable loss of pressure.) If not for this aggregious misstatement I would have rated the mechanical aspect of the sprinkler 5-stars. It rotates as promised. But, in order to cover a 3,900 sq. ft. area you'll have to reset your sprinkler 5 TIMES -- which means a one hour job now takes 5 hours! since you'll need to wait for each cycle to end to move the sprinkler to another spot. That is UNACCEPTABLE. It is a huge time hog. The manufacturer and advertiser ought to fix this error. It creates an expectation of coverage that is bogus, in my experience.

I had a cheapo garden lawn sprinkler but my lawn is quite long and narrow and the sprinkler seemed to waste a lot of water by not spraying it on the lawn, but rather on the neighbour's garden. I was looking for a sprinkler that could be adjusted to spray only the lawn and the aquazoom seemed to be the thing for the job. To be fair, it's very good at being configurable to spray only the area you want. But there's a big drawback - it doesn't spray very far. The nozzles are a bit broad, and where my old sprinkler, with its fine nozzles could cover the whole lawn from one position, the aquazoom only reaches about 2-3 meters either side, meaning I have to move it several times to cover the whole lawn. I might as well water it by hand. It's an expensive piece of kit to be so poor at coverage.

This was a replacement for the same product that "died" after a number of years of use. I suspect that the problem was calcium build-up in the mechanism, as the water in our area is quite hard. With the exception of a brass fitting I use at the front end of my garden hose, I always use Gardena connectors as well. They make changing the device on the output end of the hose fast and easy.
