- 2. Mixing: Always use a freshly prepared mixture of Wood Bleach. In a clean, open-top, plastic container (such as a bowl), mix equal portions of Solutions A and B. DO NOT MIX WITH ANY OTHER PRODUCT. Mix only what you need for one application. Mixture weakens after 3 to 4 hours. IMPORTANT: Even a weakened Wood Bleach mixture should be handled with care. Read carefully all cautions and instructions on the box.
- 3. Application: Using a clean, synthetic sponge or a nylon paint brush, apply a uniform coat of Wood Bleach mixture over the area, avoiding puddles. Wood Bleach action will begin almost immediately, producing bubbles and lightening the wood. On porous wood, bubbling action takes place below the surface. After the surface has dried about 2 or 3 hours, observe the general appearance. If the desired appearance is achieved, no further bleaching is necessary and you can proceed to Step 6. .
- 4. Reapplication: If the surface appears a little blotchy or uneven, apply a uniform coat of Solution B only. After an additional 2 or 3 hours, if wood color is still too dark, apply a second coat of a new mixture of Solutions A and B. NOTE: More than two applications of Wood Bleach will significantly raise wood grain.
- 5. Neutralizing: After a second application of the Wood Bleach A and B mixture, you must neutralize the wood. Wait at least 2 hours after the last application, then neutralize by sponging the wood with diluted white vinegar (2 parts water to 1 part vinegar).
- 6. Sanding: Let wood dry at least 24 hours, out of direct sunlight. If you have made multiple applications of Wood Bleach, allow the wood to dry for 2-3 days. Sand surface LIGHTLY with fine sandpaper to smooth any raised grain, but avoid sanding through the bleached surface. Sanding dust can be removed with a tack cloth. Surface is now ready to receive a new finish.
1. Preparation: Surface to be bleached must be free from all dirt, grease and all surface finishes. Clean the surface thoroughly. After the surface is clean, to be sure all finish has been removed, sprinkle water on the surface. If the water penetrates uniformly, the wood is ready to bleach. If water does not penetrate uniformly into surface, further stripping or cleaning is necessary. Sanding may be required to remove certain grease or oil stains. If chemicals are used for cleaning, let surface dry thoroughly (24 hours recommended). The entire surface must then be evenly moisturized by wiping with a clean, damp sponge.
7. Disposal & Cleanup: Rinse applicators, used rags and containers immediately after use with COLD water. Clothing, fabrics, rags or other combustible materials that have come into contact with Solution B or a mixture of Solutions A and B are subject to SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION and should also be rinsed with COLD water immediately after use. Combustible materials should only be disposed of by soaking with water and placing in a closed metal container.>
