Does it collapse and fall easily, and is it sturdy?

It seems quite strong and stable and does not collapse.

Can I use my steam iron as it says I can't on the instructions, unless I have misunderstood

I've had mine over two years now and always used a steam iron. No detrimental effects. Don't know why it should say otherwise in the instructions. Do what l did, throw the instructions in the bin and carry on ironing.

Could some please tell me the actual size of the area you iron on & then the full length with ironing rest please TIA

The ironing board is 124cm in length. The width is 35cm. There is some tapering at on end as is normal in ironing boards.
