The basket is 7 inches and the inside of the pot is just under 8.25 inches. The 10 inches includes the lid and lid handle.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the pot? I want to put a 1/2 gallon mason jar in it.

can you do crablegs in it?

You bet you can! Crab legs are one of my favorites! Place about 1 1/4 cups of water in steamer. Season water with whatever you want or need. i.e. salt, pepper, old bay seasoning or whatever. Place crab legs in steamer. once steam starts to come out of steamer vent, then continue to steam for about 6-8 minutes. ---Then take crab legs out and enjoy! --- Very tasty and wonderfully good!
