so far, so good
Out of the box, this harmonica plays well; as the reed plates are the same as other models, I assume it will continue to play well. It is very similar to the Marine Band Deluxe. It's a matter of taste as to whether you prefer the wod comb or the bamboo. The reeds are the same and the cost as well. Either one delivers a professional sound, but my ears prefer the pear wood of the Deluxe.

Coming from a marine band 1896 model, the crossover is definitely worth the money!
Marine band Crossover is pretty cool! Got one after playing the marine band 1896 for a good while! I needed more Harmincas in different keys anyways, so I tried out a crossover for the first time, and I'm very pleased with it! They 2 models are similar in a lot of ways but one thing I really like about the crossover is that the edges are rounded off! Most notably the holes to the reeds have their edges rounded off on the sides and the edges of the Reed plates as well so it feels really smooth to play, and I never feel like I'm gonna cut my lip! As apposed to the 1896 which is a model I really enjoy playing, it has a LOT of sharp edges. the holes to reeds on the mouthpiece are not rounded off on the sides like the crossover is which is not bothersome, to me at least. However it is a noticeable difference in that small detail. but the thing about the 1896 that does bother me is that the edges on the sides of the Reed plates are pretty sharp! And so when your moving pretty fast on it and your lip comes over the side of the plate you definitely feel that sharp edge! and while it hasn't cut me yet, (and I don't think it ever will) its just a little thing that bothers me a bit. The crossover does NOT have this same problem! Another thing I noticed as well about the crossover is right out of the box, all the notes were ALREADY in tune AND none of the notes felt sticky! Normally I'm used to having to adjust some notes like hole 2 in other harmonicas normally that note is a tad bit off, and the higher notes would feel sticky. This is not the case with the crossover so it gets a big plus from me for that. And the lacquered comb also feels quite nice against the lips making it real easy move! All in all it's a good harmonica that is worth the money!

As advertised
It's a well made unit and matches all of the reviews I have read. This one pulls on my short moustache hairs, but apparently that can happen with any harmonica. I've only experienced it with Hohner Marine Band harmonicas. If I adjust my playing style I can work around it. I need to learn how to adjust it myself.

Best sounding harp on the market IMHO
Yes, it is pricy for a harp. If you buy a cheap harp it sounds cheap, it takes more breathe, and it will blow out soon. These sound pure, blow easier and last MUCH longer than other brands.

Nice harp, but not blown away.
I'm a 10 year amateur with decent skills...mostly 1, 2, 3 (occasional 4) position blues...nothing fancy. Most reviews make it sound like magic, so I got a D to try it out (where I can use a little help). Nice well-made harp, but at $70 I'm not blown away. Sealed bamboo feels great and easily beats raw pearwood, but it's not better than plastic. It needed some gapping right out of the box, just like a Special 20...so much for the "better" tuning. It's bright and articulate, and so not as warm as a S20(my preference). And it didn't seem to play any easier or better than an S20. It's a nice step up from a marine band, but for my ability and ear, I'll stick with the S20 and buy more harps or beer with the savings. More accomplished or discriminating players might feel otherwise.

Great Harmonica
The Hohner Crossover harmonicas are my favorite tyoe of diatonic harmonica. Great sound, and I like the bamboo comb because of it's sustainability. We all gotta do our part and every little bit helps to protect our environment in these wicked days of global climate change.

Guaranteed to "ROCK IT"
Now this depends, if you want 100% quality, looks, and sound I say go with the Hohner crossover. But if you can live with 98% quality and looks but with a louder quality sound Hohner Rocket is your harmonica. This baby will set a party off!! outside it will shake leaves off trees in a room it will rock the house. Need I say more? Yes I must, it's edges are smooth and comfortable to the mouth and it's lowes raspory (and I aint even sure raspory is a word) it's highs are qualling this thing is the blues. I purchased both the crossover and the rocket in D and love'm both you'd have to pry them from my cold dead fingers, but Hmmmm which one would I take to a party? "Rocket" hands down because it's guaranteed to "ROCK IT" every time.

Great harmonica, my husband loves it more than his marine band and likes the feel of it better as well as the ease to bend.
