A great set of jumper cables.
I opted for these after seeing many other jumper cables that use the cigarette lighter on one end (which I can't imagine working well, unless you get one with a really long cable). I originally got these for our company van, but we recently decided to ditch the mobile service side of our business, so I gave them to my mom to keep in her SUV instead. They'll surely come in handy, not only if she ever needs a jump start, but if someone else does. The build quality is solid and they're priced reasonably. For now, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend picking some of these up, but will adjust my review and rating down the road if I have any issues with them.

Very Helpful!
Jumper cables like these are a must-have for any automotive safety/emergency kit. These are especially nice because they have a protective coating around the clamps that help reduce the chance of a short circuit if the ends accidentally touch together while attempting to jump a battery. These cables seem high quality and have a sturdy construction feel to them. 12 feet is just the right length for any typical jump start, even side-by-side. The 8 gauge wire is an adequate thickness for relatively quickly charging up a battery enough to start a car that's been sitting for a year. The spring clamping force is favorable and the Y portion of the cables can be pulled further apart, if necessary, for a wider reach when locating a proper grounding point. As a precaution, an instructional tag is attached to one of the cables that reminds the user how to properly attach the clamps. A carrying pouch is included along with gloves. The pouch is just the right size where the cables fit inside nicely coiled up, and it doesn't take up too much room while stored away in a vehicle. White cloth-like material is an odd choice for work gloves, but at least they should keep the user's hands from getting sooty while working under a hood. I am very pleased with these jumper cables and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable set of automotive battery cables for whenever disaster may strike.

Cheap, simple Jumper cable.
These are not the best jumper cables, but at this price they are a good value. My son recently started driving and I wanted to throw some cables in his trunk. In all likelihood they will never get used, but in an emergency they will work. They are definitely lightweight CCA and the connectors are not welded/soldered. There is also no bridge to connect both sides of the jaws. (not to mention the included gloves, throw those in the trash) I would not feel safe pushing the rated 250Amps through these, but they will start a Honda Civic no problem. All minor complaints considering the price. Bottom line is that if you are working with Farm equipment and use jumper cables regularly, look elsewhere. BUT if you want cheap insurance for emergencies, these will work better than paperclips.

Works great and came in handy
Buying a decent set of jumper cables was really hard work because I knew what I needed and wanted. The thicker the cable the lower the Gauge (many people think think just the opposite). These are made of 8-gauge cables. A 10-gauge cable, for example, is typically too thin for jumping a car battery quickly and reliably. The thicker the cable lower the gauge number, holds the more amperage it can handle to deliver more power to the dead battery. Pro's use probably a 1-2 Gauge set, but they are also more expensive! These are 12-ft long, and perfect for most jumping situations. The Clamps are also decent and should easily do the job. They also come in a nice carry bag and tuck easily into the back of my car. Great for the Price! I would think they would make a great gift for existing or new drivers, especially with Winter just around the corner! I'm going to buy another one of these for my nephew who just got his driver's license soon. Hope This Helps!

Just a set of cables.
Always good to have a set in every car. Needed some for my car. Well made, and now I hope I never use them. But I'm glad I got some.

It's fine.
The cables are indeed 8 AWG (American wire gauge) CCA (copper-clad aluminum). The carrying pouch is average. The clamps are sturdy and the spring is strong enough to hold the clamp on the terminal, without being too difficult to squeeze open. This would be a good gift for a young adult who recently got a vehicle. If you're doing more than the occasional jump-start, such as a continuous-use scenario, you should look for a heavier gauge wire. But you probably know that already. 8 gauge wire is fine for the time it takes to jump-start a vehicle, but not suitable for more than, say, 40A continuous. Over time, the resistance of CCA would cause the CCA to heat to the point where it begins melting the insulator.

Quality lightweight set
These cables are compact, the clamps have a strong grip, and they come with a nice case that includes a pair of gloves and instructions. These 8-gauge cables are suitable for light-duty use when jumping weak batteries. However, with higher gauge cables like these, you might need to run the car a bit longer before attempting to jump-start if the battery is very depleted. For larger vehicles, I would recommend opting for a thicker gauge cable. I purchased this set as a backup for my lithium battery charger (which I carry in case there are no other cars around). On one occasion, I tried using my lithium pack to jump a car, but it didn't work. A set of cables, however, did the job, therefore, I needed a reliable backup. I was looking for something lightweight and compact to keep in my trunk, "just incase" and this set fits the bill perfectly.
