This Sharpeak 109R honing rod has been one the best additions to my sharpening kit ever. I have been using steel hones for years, but this ceramic rod is sooo much more efficient. For me, the most notable highlights are: the 12 inch length, which is longer than most other ceramics, but it allows for a far superior blade stroke when honing longer carving knives; the little rubber/silicone cap at the end which allows you anchor the rod in place for very controlled blade passes; and the comfortable handle with good hand protection. This is an excellent product to keep your knives razor sharp and minimize the need for more time consuming sharpening-stone edge work.

Nice quality and length. Nice grip. Use it daily. Would give it 5 stars if the put a rubber boot at the tip so it wouldn’t scratch and slip on hard surfaces. Shouldn’t be a costly thing and make a great product even greater. I’m not using the guides on the handle. But if they put different angle guides depending on grind degrees for matching my knife angles it would be great. But the need to be very visible against the black handle. Which is very comfortable. Can recommend it. I never wash it just cleaning it of with dry paper. As it is diamonds it’s harsh in the beginning but that will even it out after use. My next rod will be ceramic when I get more expensive knifes.
