Can the mid depth bowl models be played like a regular acoustic, or do they have to be plugged in to be heard?

The mid depth can be played like any other acoustic. I have a super shallow bowl, a mid depth and a deep bowl ovation.They all three can be heard without plugging in. They each have a different tone to them but the mid depth bowl is my favorite out of the ones I have.

Does this guitar have a solid top?

No, it is a "layered" top (often called plywood, but not exactly the same). Solid wood tops are pretty rare in this price range. No matter, the Ovation Celebrity Standard sounds great and plays really well. The neck is a bit more like an electric guitar in feel compared to most acoustics.

What case will fit this guitar? Spec show guitar is 45".

I imagine any standard dreadnaught case would do...

It is essentially the same guitar with a different type of wood top. That is the only difference that I am aware of.
