Quiet difficult to fit but managed and working perfectly

Ignore the instructions, whoever wrote them has never seen the item. There's a nice man that has made an installation video on YouTube that will stand you in better stead. However, now that it's fitted, so far so good. Functions well.

I had to watch a YouTube video on how to install this and basically the message was, be careful and use the provided tool to hold the spring. There is no easy way to install. You need a little bit of brute force to slowly lengthen the spring (install the door end first). The tool was flimsy and the spring snapped back a couple of times - my error and my fingers! With vice grips and leverage, I finally managed to pull the chain out enough to secure it to the door jamb. Just be sure that you have the spring adjusted before you do this part though, otherwise you are in to repeat this a couple of times. And mind your fingers! Time taken was about 15 minutes.

Amazon page shows a 22mm bit as frequently bought with this door closer. Be warned this bit is neither the correct diameter or length to fit this door closer. Manufacturer recommends a 26mm bit which I feel is too big and would suggest a 24mm bit would be fine but it must be over 160mm in length to allow the tube to be fitted in to the door. A point to note is the internal spring of the closer is quite powerful and does not have a lot of adjustment to ease the tension so door closes very forcefully even when on minimum tension setting.

What can I say, after the 1st one broke from over-tightening it attempting to get the door to close properly, I was a glutton for punishment and got another to try again. As a keen DIYer who only recently managed to build a whole set of fitted wardrobes, I thought this would be an easy job. How wrong I was. Installing involves chiselling away bits of the door frame and door, not to mention the big hole in the door needed for the cylinder. Its one of those jobs which once started you really need to finish or do serious repairs to the door and frame by then not finishing the install. Well after the 1st one snapped from over tightening (see pics), there was only so far I would risk adjusting the 2nd once. Finally I just have to accept the door won't close properly (see video). I am sure there are really good reasons for why the job failed, but like anything in life you don't know what you don't know. This job is definitely one best left to a carpenter or someone with proper training as for someone doing DIY there is a risk of the product not working properly, snapping or a complicated repair if needing to abort using the product. Don't like leaving 1 star reviews as only give those when the product is not fit for purpose, but in my case it really isn't as it won't stop my puppy getting in the room to chew the shoes when young children forget to close the door which is why I needed it. :(

I prefer this type of Door closer because it's discreet. The product itself is fit for purpose and works well once fitted, however, the fitting instructions are next to useless, there are a couple of youtube videos which helped a lot. You also need to have the necessary tools including a crowbar of some kind because the tension requires a lot of leverage whilst fitting. Definitely not for a novice DIY'er. Also, worth noting is that after a couple of months use the tensioner managed to unbolt itself within the cylinder which meant the whole thing had to be re-fitted and tensioned again but this time I used an additional nut to tighten and fully secure the tensioner to stop it unbolting from the cylinder again.
