Wonderful History Reference!
I purchased the Kingfisher Illustrated History of the World for our home school program this year. It is a wonderful reference book, and we use it not only for school subjects, but also in everyday conversations, when something comes up about history that we're not sure of. We run to the shelf to see what the IHW has to say. I decided to look for this older edition as opposed to purchasing the newer edition (Kingfisher History Encyclopedia) after reading reviews and noticing the differences between the two. As an additional note for those who teach from a biblical worldview, this volume does not support a Creation/Flood model, but includes the first chapter as being 40,000-500 B.C., The Ancient World. This does not, in my opinion, necessitate throwing out the rest of the book, but maybe opens up a discussion with older students of differing opinions of early history that arise without knowledge of the truth of God's Word. I appreciate the broad global scope of the historical events included in the book, since I find most American history texts very Western-centric. Definitely a worthwhile investment in any household!

A 'Must Have' In Our Homeschool Library
We homeschool and my 12-year-old and I are really enjoying reading this. It's just the right amount of information to provide an overview of each part of the history of humans. So it's a starting point. Then if he is super interested in one period, we do web searches and other research to find out more. The graphics and illustrations are wonderful and it's fairly well balanced with representing both genders and examining different cultures thru time.

Keep books "cool"
Everything is not on Internet. I want my godchild to also develop a love of books, and this is a perfect book for that purpose when it comes to world history. The content is presented in an interesting manner using "historical snapshots" of world events along a very comprehensive timeline.

a good resource
this is a good resource to have. it is not the most user friendly and doesn't have as many pictures as Usborne. Fine for older kids 5th grade and up; for younger kids the parent can use as a good guide to help reinforce topics (for the parent to gain more information on a topic). A lot of information - set up as an encyclopedia.

Great Book
Wonderful book, very well done. We got this to go along with our Story of the World history curriculum and it has been great. My kids enjoy looking through it even when we're not doing history. Shipping was quick, packaging was perfect. Very pleased.

fabulous history overview
I bought this for my daughter who is a history "nut." As with all Kingfisher books, it is well illustrated and full of interesting facts. This is a large book, too...more than two inches thick.
