Becoming Alpha (Alpha Girl Book 1)

An Author Unpublished Book Review
I liked Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin more than I thought I would. I don't know what I expected - I picked it up as an easy book, a bit of a break from my current TBR, so I wasn't expecting much… but as it turned out, I liked it quite a bit. It wasn't a perfect book, I won't lie. It's a Young Adult Paranormal Romance, and as most books in that genre can sometimes be, there was a lot of drama and angst and misunderstandings, but that's kind of par for the course.Regardless, the book was easy to sink into. It was well written - I only found one typo - and the narrative flowed easily. I loved the characters, even Imogen. Okay, maybe not Imogen. The lore was slightly different than what I've read in similar books - especially when it came to the vampires, and it was a bit of a fun twist to see it handled in a new way. I enjoyed the tug and pull of Tess and Dastien's relationship especially.Overall, I think if you like YA Paranormal Romance reads, you're most likely going to enjoy this one. I'm excited to read more from this author in the near future.

I do not get the bad reviews
Tessa started out normal and had a best friend, but when her powers came online and she started picking up her visions from people or things she touched, her whole life changed. Her best friend was the one who made up the first name she was called. One reviewer said she had no friends so she should be shy. This reviewer was not bullied from childhood or she would know that being bullied does one of two things to you: You either try to be invisible or you shake it off and what does not kill you makes you stronger. Tessa has a white father and a Mexican mother whose family is full of brujas. She wears gloves to cut down the visions because seeing other people's thoughts can be creepy. Her father handles high profile clients in LA, but takes a job with a small private school in a small Texas town for the same amount of money and her brother picks Austen for college to stay near Tessa.Tessa is a reader and gets her brother Axel to go to town with her to a bookstore attached to a mall (for Axel). He has been her best friend and being older, he turns her on to bands no one knows about. She meets a guy who was introduced to her along with her father's boss named Dastien at the book store, but while waiting for Axel a fight looks like it is going to start between kids from her new school and the private school her Dad works for. Axel misses the action, but not Tessa's reaction to Dastien and then he does his brotherly best to embarrass her. Her parents buy her a new car and she goes to her new school. Her clothes and bag are expensive and so she is grudgingly accepted because of what they think they can borrow from her. She is invited to a party and she tries to fit in but there are too many people and too much alcohol...the last thing you need when you have visions. She goes outside and who should appear but Dastien. They talk and find they like the same music, books etc. and one thing leads to another and he kisses her. The kiss heats up and he bites her lip and she feel a pain in her shoulder. He apologizes, freaks out a little and leaves when her friends come out to check on her. When they see blood, they freak out and the host tells his girlfriend who brought her to take her home and it is plain she does not want her in her car. She gets Axel to give her first aid and tries to get out of church the next day because she does not feel good. Her mother freaks out when her temp is 108 and Tessa is now on her way to being a werewolf. There are more werewolf men than women, because fewer women are born and fewer still survive the change. Now Tessa is in St. Alibes and learning how to be a werewolf on top of a a new course load and surviving a new school. One reviewer said it was international, but no one had foreign names. The school is the school to send your werewolf kid to. There was Spanish, English, French, and Irish spoken so that is international, but the school is in Texas so almost everyone speaks English. Tessa has a world of problems now. Seems she was tapped to be the next leader of a major coven (her mom kept that one from her) and that can't happen now that she is a were and they are mad. They may have to face a tribuanal for the bite and it seems everyone wants her mate. This is a good series with characters that are easy to relate to. The most inane review was that this is a Twilight ripoff. All of the Twilight fans are now old enough to know that Twilight ripped off its story line from Wuthering Heights to Shakespeare. There is at least an original storyline and a good story about being a square peg who finally finds her place in the world.

A gem. A fantastic gem
I freaking loved this book. Becoming Alpha might as well be my favorite werewolf book so far. It had everything I might desired and more. I loved Tessa, who at first was frighted about what was happening to her but then embraced the changes in her life, I loved Dastien who is the perfect Alpha except for when he has to face Tessa, I loved the side characters who were funny and interesting.I can keep talking about my passion for this story since I also loved the world in this book, as I had a strong picture of every place I read about and I felt a strong conection to everything. EVERYTHING. Tessa is my favorite because it’s hard not to understand her and here is a thing that most might not know, I prefer werewolves over any other supernatural being because the mere idea of a Mate has me so happy. They are so protective and caring and let’s be honest they are fluffy so you can pet them."Bookstores were my kind of place. All those shiny books, lightly touched by only a couple of people. Each one held a different world, a different life to disappear into"Becoming Alpha is fast paced and something is always happening, even when the story is told from one point of view you really understand the world and plot. By the end I had a "Nerve wracking" moment because some stuff was happening and I grasped my hand and hope for the best. By the way if you think of yourself a lover of languages read this because it has a little bit of everything, do you like a Little spanish or German or french? This book has what you need.

Fun & romantic werewolf story with young adults
I really enjoyed reading this book, it's definitely a page turner. I think Twilight fans will be pleased with it, however it's much funnier than Twilight. I also liked the fact that Tessa is mixed race, simply because you hardly ever hear about mixed race novel characters. If you analyze it on a deeper level, there are some things, which are a bit concerning from a feminist/egalitarian perspective:- The relationship between Tessa and Dastien starts out with violence where he loses control over himself.- The concept of individuals not being complete until they find their soulmate. Pleeeeease!- Tessa is very slim (apparently you can't find love if you are chubby). I'm still waiting for a supernatural YA story with a plus sized girl who enjoys eating. But then your lover can't carry you around when you are ill or when he wants to ravish you, so I guess this is the reasoning behind all of these tiny heroines.- Tessas attraction to Dastien is primarily based on looks and alpha wolf status (his muscles and strength).- The male hero displays typical bad boy behaviour and I am not sure if this is a good message for young girls. The nice guy is being tossed away as always. However, in real life, nice guys make much better husbands than the bad boys.

Très très bonne suprise!
Cette série est absolument superbe, certes pour jeune adulte voir même ados mais honnêtement on ne s'y ennuie pas. Les personnages sont cohérents et même ceux de second plan tiennent la route. J'adore cette série.

Actually an enjoyable read! Not too heavy and a solid read :)
This was so easy to pick and read. I devoured it pretty quick and actually enjoyed it!Yes, a lot of it could be said as the usual - girl with a quirk and an outsider meets other boy blah, blah....but in honesty; Ms Erin doesn't make it feel like that. So! Tessa is our "heroine" for the series. A girl with the gift of "sight", so powerful she has to wear gloves and be careful of what and who she touches.Moving to a new area, she hesitantly goes to a party with some of the guys and gals from her new school. She feels like she finally fits in...! Taking a breather, and going out for air...changes everything.Drawn to a guy that she had somehow seen in a vision, a quick make out and a nibble session ends with her being quickly dropped from the kids from school, a night in A&E where the staff are petrified of her, and where her senses suddenly seem...overwhelming. She has NO clue what is going on.Turns out the guy she made out with...Dastien, is a werewolf. The town she moved to is almost a mecca for supernaturals as well as humans but they keep a good distance from each other. Now she was one of them.....The main storyline of this book is to introduce us to Tessa, to show us her new life just as she enters it, and to her new way of living. Dastien, it turns out is her Soul Mate. Tessa doesn't adjust to being a werewolf well - not one bit. She fights it the entire time. And still...she finds it hard to fit in. She was bitten. Everyone else was a born were, so once again, shes the odd one.A great start to the series, and an interesting take on weres. It makes a refreshing change to have a paranormal romance, where its not too heavy, its not all about big sex scenes and the story still carries through. On to the next.....!!!
