This new, sophisticated, comprehensive reference book will inspire and instruct painters on how to handle today's acrylics in innovative and individualistic ways. Acrylics have grown into the most adaptable art material for the modern age. Developments in the pigment industry have given acrylics a remarkably permanent, rich, and abundant palette, making it the favorite medium of many contemporary artists. As colors are being developed, their chemical components are also enhanced for better texture and handling. Art-supplies vendors now offer acrylic mediums for thinning, thickening, glazing, molding, pouring, texturing, and dozens of other uses. Even experienced acrylic painters can be confused - even intimidated - by this staggering diversity of products. Painter and art materials expert Rhéni Tauchid simplifies this daunting subject, clearly explaining each type of medium and suggesting ways it can enhance your painting practice. Over twenty step-by-step demonstrations teach you how to apply mediums to create vibrant colors, sensuous surfaces, and striking visual effects. Hundreds of beautiful photos illustrate mediums’ almost limitless potential and show you how other artists - both abstract and realist - are employing mediums to push their art in new creative directions. The first book of its kind, this essential reference belongs on every acrylic painter’s shelf. Includes the Work of Contemporary Masters: Nick Bantock, Diane Black, Bruno Capolongo, Pauline Conley, Marc Courtemanche, Marie-Claude Delcourt, Claire Desjardins, Marion Fischer, Heather Haynes, Lorena Kloosterboer, Suzy Lamont, Marie Lannoo, Connie Morris, Barry Oretsky, Lori Richards, Hester Simpson, Ksenia Sizaya, Rhéni Tauchid, Alice Teichert, Beth ten Hove, Sharlena Wood, and Heather Midori Yamada." Review: Excellent book on acrylic mediums and how to use them - I have only just received the book so have only just started to skim the surface, but can see already that it will be very helpful, seeing that acrylic mediums are becoming increasingly relevant to acrylic painting. There looks to be very thorough coverage of all types of mediums, how to use them, and how to avoid pitfalls. With lots of lovely examples. Review: Wonderful guide to experimenting with acrylics. - Just looking at the colorful pages makes me happy. LOL Can't wait to try some techniques out of it.

The Best Acrylic Painting Book on the Market, Written by a Great Artist!
This book is terrific. It explains all the aspects of acrylic painting (including a bit of chemistry about how and why the products work) in a clear and concise manner. Rheni Tauchid really knows her stuff. The illustrations are very helpful and augment the text well. The paper is heavy and glossy, which is a nice extra and the photography is well done. The techniques are clearly explained in sufficient detail to be very helpful for a beginner as well as an intermediate-range artist. Lots of "so THAT'S how (and why) that works" going on in this reader's mind! Great a-ha moments all the way through. Best of all, the author never talks down to the reader. The book is written is a casual conversational style, as though you are sitting together over a cup of coffee. Truly, if you are going to select only one book for acrylic paint education, this is it! Much better than YouTube videos!

Disappointed!
Was disappointed. Thought it would cover products I use such as Golden mediums. Only explores the Tri Art brand which I have never heard of. Other brands might not behave as those explored in this book. Haven’t study the book very thoroughly yet. I hope it will be valuable in the end.

There is no other resource out there like this
This book is phenomenal. There is truly no other like it. As a self taught artist, I’ve personally found it easier to find resources on technique, than it is to find information on how to really use your materials, but this book encapsulates it all. I was hesitant at first because of its price, but after receiving it, I have absolutely NO regrets. The overall layout is clean and the author does a fantastic job at breaking down what some may consider to be a more “complex concept”. The images are sharp, clear, and the book feels like pure quality. I loved the authors story, and I am grateful to have it. Again, I HIGHLY recommend to any artist who wants to learn how to use their materials, without sacrificing their own style.

Essential book for water colors
I've been working with acrylics for several years but found the explanations and examples in this book extremely helpful. It would have saved me much trial and error in the beginning, but also explains the reason for certain mistakes or unhappy results even now. Mediums are well covered in this book. I think it is an essential book for working in acrylics.... wish there was an equally detailed book for oils which are my greater love!

Her writing is excellent and her ability to generate excitement for painting in general is unmatched. You can't go wrong purchasing any of her helpful books and each offers something different.

Meh
"It includes the works of contemporary masters"... I say, which contemporary masters? Adrian Ghenie is a contemporary master. Alex Katz is a contemporary master. Those included in this book are nothing but good crafters. Which is fine. No grudge. Layout, binding and quality of both paper and photos are excellent but this is not a reference for the serious painter. Information is very shallow as well. If you download for free the Acrylic Book by Liquitex, you go through a far more serious technical stuff. P.s. The author seems also a bit confused about the "impasto" and "alla prima" techniques. They can coexist but they're definitely not the same thing.
