The Defender (Deluxe Edition) (Gods of the Game, 2)

I ate this book up! The amount that I adore this book is unhinged. I was taken from the beginning because of excellent characters with depth and realness, swoony romantic moments, and tight plotting with a compelling danger is lurking element. You have men that are yearning for their women but sometimes don't realize until late.... but once they do they strive to make it right. This book is in dual perspective where it really shines because we simultaneously get to see our heroine Brooklyn hoping to see him react to her presence, but unsure if he's affected, and simultaneously hear his inner dialogue going crazy with wanting to be near her, to smell her perfume, and brush his hand against the curve of her neck. I was literally hanging on every moment between these too. I will for sure always be picking up any book that Ana Huang writes. The audiobook was narrated in duet style by James Cavenaugh and Samantha Brentmoor... 10/10 in narration. I was taking from the beginning. They brough their characters to life and then they took it even further and just brought it. Everything you want- tension, chemistry and angst was brought. PERFECTION! If you like contemporary romance with a sports tie and some spice this is for you. 5/5!!!

Starting any book by Ana is always easy because I know I’m going to love it — and this one was no exception. Honestly, I’ve been looking forward to this story for a while, and it did not disappoint! This time, I was completely entertained by the playful back-and-forth between Vincent and Brooklyn 😂 Their chemistry? Off the charts. Brooklyn, an intern at Blackcastle FC (and yes, the coach’s daughter!), finds herself tangled up with Vincent — the team’s captain. What starts as a simple roommate situation born out of a dare turns into so much more, and I was hooked every step of the way. Brooklyn is such a strong, determined woman carving out her own career path, and I love how Vincent supports her while still letting her shine. Their relationship felt both sweet and empowering. And I can’t forget the rest of the crew — the team and the girls absolutely stole the show! The group dynamic, the banter, the chaotic group chat moments… I was laughing so much 🤣 Ana really knows how to make her characters feel like a family you want to hang out with. If you love sports romance with heart, humor, and chemistry that leaps off the page — this one’s a total winner. ⚽💖

Great writing. Not as good as the first in the series

The Defender is the second book in the Gods of the Game series, following Brooklyn and Vincent. Vincent is a walking green flag and so swoony. He fell hard for Brooklyn and would do anything for her. The “who made you cry?” moment made me melt. I loved Brooklyn and felt she was super relatable. The flirting and teasing had me so giddy, and when the tension snapped, I was cheering! These two definitely knew how to heat things up! Beyond the romance, there was a lot of emotional depth, and I loved witnessing them grow throughout the story. Brooklyn and Vincent found what they needed in each other, and I loved every second of it. Samantha Brentmoor and James Cavenaugh performed this audiobook in duet. They put so much personality into the characters, and I felt every emotion through their performances. They did a wonderful job bringing the story to life and made the characters feel real.

It felt like it dragged on in places, and I didn't think there were enough chapters left to wrap up the story but it was. I did read this out of order but it didn't matter to the story. It was an overall good read.

Thank you for the ride!! I was happy, sad, frustrated, worried, completely in love, and overwhelmed to my soul with this book. I thought Scarlett and Asher’s story was amazing and you topped it. I love the inner monologue of the characters and their passion. I can’t wait to read about Noah and Carina. I saw that one coming!! No pun intended. lol. Thanks again for bringing a smile to my face and making my vacation so memorable. On to book 3 ❤️❤️❤️

The Defender by Ana Huang Gods of the Game Series – Book 2 Ana Huang’s The Defender, the second book in her Gods of the Game series, continues to follow an elite football club in England—and it absolutely delivers. This player/coach’s daughter romance features Vincent DuBois and Brooklyn Armstrong, and I really enjoyed both main characters. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the forbidden dynamic adds an extra layer of tension that makes their story even more compelling. The side characters are just as fun and engaging, adding depth and humor to the overall story. The spice level was perfectly balanced, and the added stalker subplot forces Vincent and Brooklyn to confront their true feelings for one another in a way that raises the stakes and keeps the pages turning. Ana Huang already has me counting down to the third and final book in the series, The Keeper, which is set to be released later this year.

I cried so hard when this story ended. This might be by far my FAVORITE Ana Huang book. Brooklyn and Vincent’s story will live on in my heart and head for a while now. The rawness of the backgrounds of these two characters touched home in my heart; particularly Vincent’s story. As an adoptee, the unknowing of birth parents and what they’re like have always been in the back of my mind and I loved how Ana wrote these feelings into Vincent’s story! I cannot wait for Noah and Carina’s story and how she is the girl he shouldn’t fall for. Thank you again for writing such a touching story! It’s one of my highlighted books of February so far!

Amo toda la serie de Anna otro libro que no decepciona

I don’t know why it took me long enough to read this book..but once I started i just could get enough of it. I just loved them and their story. Thank you dear Ana Huang for existing and writing such beautiful stories.

A Anna Huang nunca erra comigo. Acho que, se ela escrevesse a lista de supermercado dela, eu leria sem pensar duas vezes. 😂 Amei absolutamente tudo em The Defender: o casal, a premissa, o desenvolvimento do romance e a forma como tudo aconteceu no tempo certo. A química entre eles é maravilhosa, e foi impossível não torcer pelos dois do início ao fim. A Brooklyn conquistou meu coração, e só passei raiva quando a mãe dela aparecia. Ela é extremamente tóxica, e isso só fez eu querer ver a protagonista feliz ainda mais. E eu já falei o quanto amo essa rodinha de amigos? As participações dos personagens dos outros livros e, principalmente, as conversas no grupo são simplesmente tudo! Elas deixam a história muito mais divertida e dão aquela sensação gostosa de estar reencontrando velhos amigos. E, para fechar com chave de ouro, a cena bônus deixou tudo ainda melhor. Terminei o livro com um sorriso no rosto e já estou morrendo de vontade de ler o próximo. Anna Huang, você fez de novo. ❤️

The Defender is book two in the Gods of the Game series and follows the story of Vincent DuBois (caption of Blackcastle) and Brooklyn (Sports Nutrition intern AND the Coach’s Daughter). When Vincent’s fame starts to affect his safety, he finds himself suddenly sharing a flat with the coach’s daughter. Vincent goes from a flashy life as the highest paid player on the team to living simply in Brooklyn’s flat. This is one part of the story I really loved. While Vincent is a wealthy character, like we have come to love from Ana’s books, the story felt like it didn’t have all the flash and opulence of the previous books. There were moments that did portay that wealth but I really enjoyed this vibe as I felt it made Vincent and Brooklyn a more likeable and relatable couple. The Defender perfectly blended sports with the romance. Both Vincent and Brooklyn worked for the same team but it felt like there was a nice separation between their work and home life and the story had a nice focus on both aspects. Their home life felt cosy and relatable, with some great banter between their two. The Defender was an easy, bingeworthy read that ticks the boxes for me with a sports romance. This book really built upon the team environment from The Striker and it was wonderful to see the friendship that has developed between Vincent and Asher.

My daughter chose it as a birthday gift for her friend. A little expensive.
