Simple and effective
I live in an old house and have always been curious if there's lead in it. This product was a nice affordable way to check things out and get an idea of how things are. At first I was curious i these worked as nothing tested positive for lead and I didn't have anything with lead to test on. But I did eventually get a positive result on some chipping pint in the back of the garage. I'm glad I got these and that they appear to work. They're super easy to use and are conveniently individually packaged. Cutting the tip off is easy enough, though mildly annoying that I need scissors in hand to start. But it's not really a big deal and worth t. For anyone in an older house or that has antiques, I highly recommend getting this.

Easy to use
My daughter in law suggested I get this kit to test my grandmother’s china which I use for holidays. Kit very easy to use. It did test positive for lead unfortunately. I also tested my dishes which are from 1974 and was glad they are ok. Nice to know both ways.

Useful all-in-one test for lead
We were able to find a few sources of lead that we discarded after testing revealed unsafe lead. One item was a stainless steel water pitcher. The weld contained high amounts of lead. It is good for peace of mind when buying products manufactured overseas having little to no oversight on product safety.

These tests are defective!
These do not work!! I had bought a different brand from Lowe’s that showed a positive result on some antique ceramics I own as well as some areas in my home with peeling paint. When I tried these new tests on the same 3 areas nothing happened! They did not change color. They are supposed to turn yellow when the vinegar flows down but that only happens for a second before turning back to white. I can tell the pictures of “positive” results in other reviews may not be accurate as well because according to the directions, it’s supposed to turn dark purple not pale pink. They aren’t sensitive enough and I would not trust them. Other tests I’ve used work way better and all you have to do with those is dip them in water. These tests are defective and false advertisement.

Questionable Accuracy
These swabs work, but they don't appear to be very sensitive. I did a control test following provided directions with an object I know is 100% lead and it barely changed colors. It leaves me to have doubts about its accuracy for testing alloys like old pewter and similar.

Faint reading but it works for the price
It does the job and was one of the cheapest. Some just require soaking in water and this one requires scissors. It also doesn’t have much liquid so the yellow was fainter and faded more when using it compared to another brand I have tried. As a result I had to peer closely to make sure I was seeing the pink color. I wouldn’t recommend for someone with less good eyesight. I would recommend for someone looking for a cheaper test. Storage takes up less space as it’s a narrow cardboard box versus some that are plastic tube holders. My experience was a 3 star and I’m unlikely to buy again but I’m giving it a 4 because it works and you get what you pay for.

I used to test my dishes and mugs in the kitchen, kids toys, etc. Worth the peace of mind.
As far as I can tell these work perfectly. I tested lots of items in my kitchen and didn't find any lead. This eased my mind that my dishes are OK. I think it's worth the cost to find that out. Hope this is helpful!

Easy To Use
I found this product easy to use, although you might have to tap it a bit to make sure all the liquid fully drains into the head of the swab. I tested several of my kid's toys and a couple old ceramic crocks that we have. The swabs did not change color on any of them so assuming they work, I guess my items are lead free. I do wish I had a known lead object to test as a controll. I think for 30 swabs this product is a good value.
