OK but not chalk paint
This is furniture paint with a flat matt or "chalky" finish. It is not chalk paint, and is not described as such.It has a flat satinwood-type finish. If you want true chalk paint for a shabby-chic multi-layer effect this is not for you. Look for chalk paint and only buy that. I have used it before and to be honest I prefer it.Couple of points you may note: Firstly, the instructions say that "most" surfaces do not need to be rubbed down (abraded) with sandpaper before applying the first coat. If you are painting pre-varnished or pre-painted wood (which is probably why most buy it) it does have to be abraded, in my opinion, if you want it to last. Or it may not not take knocks without chipping. If you don't abrade it then I suggest you clean off any potential waxy or greasy deposits from polishes or fingerprints by cleaning it down with fine wire wool and white spirit. Then wipe over with a damp cloth and allow to dry fully.Secondly in spite of the claims made about it you almost certainly will need to apply more than one coat. I can't see how one would ever be enough.Thirdly, give it a few days to fully cure then apply a chalk finish wax for waterproofing, if anything liquid is ever likely to come in contact with it. This also seems to make the finish more robust. Be very careful with the furniture the first few days especially as I found it liable to chip quite easily until it cured fully.I'm reasonably happy to recommend it subject to the above points. Time will tell whether I would have been better to use true chalk paint.

Beautiful sleek finish
This product truley doesnt need prep. I used it to paint chairs that were a combination of painted wood and of plain untouched wood and the result was so sleek that you couldnt tell where the painted part was! The finish is very chalky that makes the furniture look super evenly painted!
