I had my doubts with some few negative feedback on the item, but I had faith in knowing decades of previous machines I had built on Hitachi drives. Upon arrival and installation, i was pleasantly relieved that it worked great right out of the box. Unlike previous drives, I did have to use the dongle adapter to bypass the new remote power down system standards, but once I did, it registered immediately and formatted fine. Tested rigorously three times using surface tests overnight. 100% functional no bad sectors nor a single error warnings. Proceeded to copy my old drive and it was going at 180mb/s during that write process. Overall a great unit. Read head clicking is somewhat more noticeable in random read operation but that’s been normal for most modern Hitachi HGST drives. Heat properties are fine too. File copying took 3 hours, for 3.5GB of information. No warnings for heat related issues and PC fans stayed nice and stable. 10Gb is a lot of storage! $78, Hitachi drive quality, I will take it!!

The product worked fine on one of my test benches but after further research doesnt work at all with the system that I was trying to integrate it into. Product is great with that small exception. I am returning because it didnt work in my use case but if you have any other motherboard you should be in a good place!

I was not that bothered by the speed since I use this only for backup and it spends 29 days a month powered off, then 1 day powered on for backups.... but... I have been moving data onto this drive and I can tell you this is NOT an enterprise drive. This is a HOME drive and the knocking noises I hear inside this drive scare me. I would be worried that ANY drive made as many knocking noises as these heads do as they are moving around. It sounds like a fan spinning inside and its getting hit by a cord or string and as it bounces around and drops back into the fan again and again it makes another knock. To me.. the knocking noises are very upsetting since I have 8 of the TRUE HGST 10TB drives that are in the same JBOD box and they are all silent doing the exact same job. Only these (2) drives make these noises. I will be boxing and returning these as soon as I find a replacement. It seems maybe the HGST drives are "almost" or "completely" gone and WD is going to capitalize on the reputation for quality to sell their cheaply made drives. Since My original 4TB HGST drives (16 of them) NEVER failed me in 6 years. i have been replaceing them with these 10TB drives, but.. there is no way I can trust a drive that sounds like something is bouncing around inside to last like my real HGST drives did. I only have 8 of the real drives and I will be looking for some remaining "old" stock of them and when I find them, I will send these back. These are not broken but they are such inferior quality to my original HGST drives, that they would drive me crazy. I heard them knocking as I walked by.. while my fan was on and making noise!!!!

Purchased this 5x tested all 5 drives. all 5 passed 0 bad sectors and no issues with smart test. however when I purchased them they mentioned having the power disable adapter and even the instructions say use the included power disable adapter. In 5 drives I only got 1. Not the end of the world but some thing to keep in mind. also only 1 drive was above the average 5 or so years at 6.5980 years now time will tell but I do buy these drives and so far good luck and good drives. good value for money They do include instructions for power disable and include kapton tape so +1 for them.

PROs Purchased 6 drives all were 10TB HUH721010ALE600, have firmware LHACT38Q. Average of power on 8067 hours or 336 days and 3 hours. Lowest received was 501 hours (20 .875 days) most were in the range of 9500 hours. Power cycle count was between 16-17 when I received drives. All passed extended 18-hour SMART battery of tests. ☼ Quiet ☼ Looks to be and feels to be in good shape, clean. ☼ Synology RS1221+ recognizes and works with them, it doesn't complain about these drives as many RS and XS series can and do, I've been very fortunate in my cautious selections to use. I've included this to assist other Synology owners with this specific model in locating working drives - ( as of 10-27-2023. /w DSM 7.2-64570 x. ) If all turns out well, I'll be bookmarking this seller and watching offerings. Caution to NAS owners. I don't care what drive source you use, make sure if it's worth keeping have several tried and tested backup plans to fall back on, anything can die for any reason. CON: ►►I don't recall seeing any power cables in my 6 boxes but as advertised, however, might be nice to have for a future use when a system won't handle these drives natively. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Initially, I started out using: WD Red Pros, after 5 years of running they still have no issues and are still in service. I added Seagate Iron Wolf Pros, after 2 years of running no issues, still in service. Now adding WD/HGSTs. - they're looking promising. (Have tried WD Gold Enterprise, those things are tanks but expensive.) I'm keeping the Red Pros and Iron Wolf Pros engaged as I integrate these HGSTs and start stressing them just in case, though I'm bit more that optimistic now than before and hope I've found a reputable source that doesn't deal in garbage. 03-14-2024 Update - Still going strong on all 6 drives with 24/7 operation in NAS, no errors on RAID5 patrols and things seem to be quite happy. Going strong for the rest the of the mentioned WDs and SGs too.

bought two. ONE makes an annoying sound, like a slow rythmic "brrt......brrt........" MOST of the time, but can only hear it if room is really quiet. and once i moved my computer below the desk, i never notice the sound. the other one is totally silent all the time. these drives are fast, and my computer and software always cooperates well with them. which is what is expected. love the huge size. of course, MUST use the power adapter cord to, not sure about what it is or whatever - the normal power cord in a computer plugged into some other "older" looking connection, or whatever. ONLY 4 months i've used them! hope they remain working for a long time! we'll see! ....but, there IS a 3 year warranty, right?? i think i saw that in the details. anyway, later people

These drive were installed in a Synology DS220j NAS and all 4 drives reported healthy at 9.1TB which is normal for a mfr advertised 10TB HDD. Upon initial installation the drive was reported as not on Synologies approved list, but the drives work fine in all respects in the NAS. A little noisy but Ive heard worse. I have it near my working desk and I dont mind the noise in fact its a reminder things are working. It fit perfectly in the Synology into its slot and connected with the mating connectors. The adapter cables that came with the kit were not needed for my case. They were packaged nicely in sealed containers, very professional.

Nearly burned my house down! These drives don’t power on from a standard sata power connector and require a special molex to sata connector. No big deal I thought, plug it in and what happens? The computer chassis immediately turns glowing red and smoke is pouring out of every fan. I moved as quickly as I could to pull the power cord out of the back but before I could it has fried my motherboard (maybe the cpu and memory too, not sure yet) and the power supply. Not to mention my whole house smells like a electrical fire. I’m sure I’ll get a refund on the drives but what about the computer you just torched? Update: 8/17 - Company has promptly contacted me, issued refund, and is investigating the photos and damage before calling back to update me on any other information. Out of fairness to them for so quickly promptly contacting me directly I'll continue updating this review with progress from the company 8/19: They’ve issued a refund but have been entirely radio silent about covering the cost of the new computer I have to build since their fault part torched mine. Update 8/28: shipped those clunkers back, but just to update the company will issue a maximum damage benefit of $250. So if risking your computer, office, home or other property potentially burning down is worth $250 in amazon credit then by all means go ahead and get these. For the record I purchased both, and BOTH were defective, the support rep said in thousands of drives this had never happened but I had two drive failures in one box. I tested the second one in a different environment with a different power supply and it also instantly shorted out and started smoking. The support rep was very pleasant but ultimately couldn’t help replace everything and who has the time to for that hassle
